3 and 3/4 stars…read more Someone said a "slice of Boca"? No, not quite. (Although "not Boca" isn't necessarily a bad thing.) However you look at it, the comparison is inflated. The latte was good (not delicious), but a tad watery with a fullness of flavor missing. It was a rainy Saturday afternoon and the place was busy, but not overwhelming so. Tables were full, but it was only a short wait for me to place my simple order (by coffee shop standards) of a small, vanilla latte. However, once my order was taken (yes, the wait-server was pleasant) and I paid, I was left to figure it out. First time in and so I didn't know what the deal was: do I wait where I am? Pick up at a different counter? Ok...but where? Does someone call my drink out when it's ready (there's no put-your-name-on-a-cup thing -- which IS annoying, but apparently can be more handy than I've previously thought)? Is the order stated when the cup is placed down? The person who waited on me had vanished into a gaggle of chatting and giggling girls behind the counter, so I asked another customer. (FYI: you wait at the perpendicular counter to your left of the register.) No big deal, but it's one of those "little things" that separates the four stars from the five. I moved to the "wait" counter and observed a few drinks being placed down -- all beverages in similar cups -- and had to (again) ask someone else for help (i.e., which order was mine), as the barista who made my drink put it down and then disappeared into that gaggle of girls. (Also minor, but another separator of the three and three quarter stars from the four.) In short, the latte was good, but not the best. The service? Ok, but not the best. The ambiance? Again ok. Maybe because I've lived in SE Florida for more than 20 years, but it definitely does not have that true Boca feel. Nonetheless, given the options in the area, Hamilatte is a welcome attempt at something different, and definitely a preferred choice to Starbucks. I will return if I'm nearby, but I won't go out of my way (as I do for a truly 5-star establishment).

This location is somewhat small. Seating exists, but more in the way that folding chairs exist at a funeral luncheon. You can sit. You just can't linger without developing opinions about strangers transiting through. The parking lot outside feels like a free form social experiment. Cars were being parked in by other cars while still others idled along the curb as their drivers strolled inside for to go orders, seemingly oblivious to the chaos they left in their wake. In the thirty minutes I was there I witnessed two near misses at the drive thru exit and briefly wondered if Starbucks offered liability waivers with their rewards program. Inside things improved dramatically. I ordered my standard tall flat white, which is a drink Starbucks can usually deliver without adding enough sugar to cause diabetic shock or roasting the beans until they taste like charcoal and regret. I said I was staying and was rewarded with a proper ceramic mug. This small mercy felt important. The staff were exceedingly friendly and appeared to genuinely enjoy one another which gave the place good vibes. There was laughter. There was competence. No one looked trapped or defeated. No small feat in today's world. All in all this Starbucks achieves exactly what corporate sameness is aiming for. Predictable coffee. Pleasant people. A familiar room to get some work done. The only variable is the demolition derby taking place just beyond the doors. If they ever pave over that parking lot with common sense this place might earn another star.

Such a unique and large space with seating on both sides (1 side is a coffee bar and the other is the kitchen). Their menu is so unique and they also have a "test kitchen" menu where they'll have creations from the kitchen that they make and if they're popular enough they make the big menu. Such a great concept. Their menu has so many delicious sounding items but I decided since it was my first time to try "staples" which was a sandwich and soup combo. The cheddar broccoli soup was spectacular! The flavor and heartiness won me over. I tried the pear and gouda panini as my 1/2 sandwich which was also quite tasty. Oh and my iced raspberry cheesecake cappuccino was my favorite! Soooooo dreamy. And the customer service was great too. The cashier was super patient with me as I took forever to review the menu and decide on what I wanted. I will definitely be back even though it isn't close to my home which says something. So happy I discovered this place.

The panini was nice and crisp on the outside and the turkey with melted Brie was really good. However, I never heard the end of it from my family. Well, my turkey and Brie was delicious.

They know what they're doing. I had an egg and pork roll breakfast wrap with cooper sharp cheese and potatoes. It was not simply good. It was built with care. Each bite made sense. The kind of sandwich that understands the human condition before noon, yet still works for brinner. I also got a half dozen buffalo wings. They arrived unapologetically. Crispy, tangy, just spicy enough to wake you up without starting a fight. They made me grateful for opposable thumbs. Now, as much as I enjoyed my food, my thirteen-year-old found it to be next level. He looked at the menu like it was designed in a lab specifically for him. Burgers. Hot dogs. Boba teas. Milkshakes. Breakfast all day. His eyes lit up like Christmas morning in July. He chose a jumbo chili hot dog and fried mac and cheese bites. He loved them both in a way that made me briefly worry he'd move into the restaurant. My father-in-law got the Greek Chicken Panini. He nodded. Smiled. Said it was very good. He doesn't say that often. It meant something. Most people come here for breakfast, and I can see why. But don't sleep on the rest of the menu. Lunch and dinner are equally worthy. This place understands what makes people happy and serves it without pretense. Five stars. No notes.

That said, I don't believe in writing a place off after a single average experience, so I decided to give it a second chance. This time, I ordered two different viral crunches along with a croissant. Unfortunately, the results were disappointing across the board. The Mixed Berry Crunchy was cute in presentation, but that was its only redeeming quality. There was no bold--or even subtle--mixed berry flavor. At $10, it felt wildly overpriced and not worth the calories. Next was the Lemon Crunchy, which is supposed to feature a lemon blueberry flavor. As someone who loves lemon, I had high expectations, but once again it was bland and forgettable. Since this is a bakery, I also tried a fresh croissant and asked for it to be warmed. The staff accommodated the request, and it smelled incredible. It was warm, light, and flaky--but sadly, the flavor fell flat. A light brushing of butter on top would have gone a long way. For me, this is strike two. Unfortunately, Lilla Vanilla just isn't worth the money or the calories. Based on my experience--mediocre service on the first visit, bland and overpriced featured items on the second, and only neutral-to-slightly-positive notes on the croissant--I'd rate it 2 out of 5 . I seriously contemplated giving them 1 star but to be fair, the viral crunchy presentation was appealing and the croissant did have good texture (even if the flavor missed).
