I knew it would be a safe choice for my husband, who is gluten-free. I ordered a cortado, my husband had a cappuccino, and we shared a delicious gluten-free chocolate chip cookie. It was so good he almost couldn't believe it was gluten-free! The staff was incredibly friendly and very clear about their gluten-free options, which we truly appreciated. It was the perfect way to spend a Friday afternoon--sitting by the window, watching the snow fall, and enjoying a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. Since I've been here before, I automatically earned points and received an email receipt, which made the experience even smoother. Everything was wonderful, and we're already looking forward to coming back.

Café 36 is connected to a restaurant that I'd love to try on a future visit. The service was great and the two ladies behind the counter were friendly and helpful. It appeared that some of their refrigerated items may be bought for sale and not baked in house but all their baked goods in that case were made by them and had a large selection of baked goods from breads, biscotti, bars, tarts, cakes, and more. it also looks like they offer made to order/custom cakes so that is pretty cool! Although not pictured, we tried several macarons and they had a subtle flavor, nothing overpowering which was nice. We also tried their mini tarts in lemon and cherry, as well as their apple crumble in phyllo dough. This was interesting and I have never seen it wrapped in phyllo dough. We also tried the carrot cake which after unpacking it, I do not believe it was made in house as it was part of the other refrigerated goods. Everything was light and pretty tasty. This is definitely a place to hang out while waiting for medical appointments, enjoy a sweet treat during a warm summer day, or meet friends for a light lunch and coffee. The food was great, the chai tea was a nice mix of spicy and sweet. My pastry was wonderfully balanced on the palate while still retaining a strong chocolate flavor. I saw some people criticizing the service as confusing, I guess that's understandable but I don't agree. When you order your drink, it comes out quickly so they most likely expect you to just wait a minute before grabbing it and your table number before going to sit down. The ladies behind the counter were nice and efficient and clear with directions regarding water and where to get the drinks and food. Like I said, I didn't have any problems with service or its directions. Not to mention they have 3 different kinds of spots to hangout and eat suiting your mood: a patio, a darker "dining room" (pictured below) and a bright gelato spot. Highly recommend! When I arrived around 1:00 pm, the café was quiet. There was no one at the counter, so I walked around to find someone and ask where to sit since the space has more of a café feel on one end and a wine-bar feel on the other. I was told to order at the counter and sit anywhere. I sat in the front area to wait for my friend. Once she arrived, we went up to order. I asked about a menu and was pointed to a sign on the counter. Since it was my first visit in a while, I asked the employee what she recommended, and she flipped the sign to a breakfast sandwich called The Sal. I ordered that. I then had to ask about beverages, as none were mentioned. I only wanted water and was directed to a carafe on the counter to serve myself. Our food came out within a few minutes. The presentation was a little disappointing. I chose the vegetable side, which turned out to be two carrot sticks and two celery sticks lying in a small puddle of water. The sandwich looked good, but when I took my first bite, it was overwhelmingly salty. I understand bacon is salty, but this tasted like an excessive amount of salt had been added. After a second bite, I brought it back to the register and asked if it could be replaced, which they did. My disappointment wasn't so much in the mistake, but in the lack of acknowledgment--there was no apology and no follow-up to ask if the replacement was better. The restaurant wasn't busy, and while I'm sure they have many regulars, the lack of greeting when I walked in and the lack of follow-up stood out to me. I did appreciate the wall of ancestors--it was a nice touch--but overall the service felt disengaged. Maybe it was an off day, or perhaps inexperience from a young staff. I may try again in the future, but this visit fell short of expectations.

Scones, muffins, cinnamon rolls, strudels and more. They even have lots of various breads to choose from and cakes! They have inside and outside seating which is charming and simple. The cinnamon rolls warmed up in the microwave were probably some of the best I've ever eaten.The cream cheese frosting is to die for as well as the strawberry rhubarb filling (I need a jar of it). Muffins are SO MOIST and great texture/flavors. I also really liked that by the cash register they had some pre wrapped baked goods that were slightly discounted meaning they were probably leftovers from the previous day or what not so I like that they do not waste! Since there were several cars driving around looking for a parking spot, I decided to take my items home instead of enjoying them in the car. The latte was good but the jalapeno cheddar scone was fantastic. The scone was scipy and while crumbly it was not dry. Now I know I should plan on a to-go order next time.
