Quoted $250 pending confirmation on arrival - not given though. Shocked at invoice for $306, which included $180 for one hours work.

On 6/24/24 I had a simple plumbing job done by this company. The Moen valve cartridge in my shower…read morebroke and needed to be replaced. I have video doorbell, so I know exactly when the tech arrived and when he left. He showed up at 1:01 PM, looked at my shower and said that he needed to get the part. He said that the part cost $76. He left at 1:05 PM. He then returned at 1:38 PM and left at 14:16 PM. He spent total 38 minutes in my house working, getting paperwork ready and collecting the payment. He also told me that he "waved the service fee". To summarize: 30 minutes of actual work replacing $76 part. After he left, I come to find out that my credit card was charged $709.55 (invoice # 71795454). I was sure that this was a mistake. I called three times before the "office manager" called me back. She checked something and said that that the invoice was correct!!!! I could not believe it. I checked with other plumbing companies just to compare. The usual charge per hour of labor is about $170. So the fair price for this job would be about $160 ($85 for 30 min of labor plus $76 for the part). They unashamedly stole over $500! And I've been their customer for years. My AC was replaced in 2019 by Service Gurus, which was bought by Advanced Air; they replaced my water heater 2 years ago, and did multiple AC service appointments. I even bought their "comfort club" membership. So that's how they treat their loyal long-term customers! Beware. This company does price gouging. If you want to be gouged, please use them. Also, keep in mind that the old 5 star Google reviews do not belong to them. They belong to Service Gurus, which Advanced Air bought. Service Gurus were an awesome company. Please read Advanced Air reviews on YELP. You will find many customers who had exactly the same experience. Also, their invoice does not itemize price of parts or labor. It gives you entire amount. So you have no idea how much was the part or labor. Finally, if you check Better Business Bureau file for "Advanced Air Home services" you will see A rating with zero complaints. However, the actual name of this company is "Southern Home Services" (you can see this name at the bottom of their home page). Now if you search BBB for "Southern Home Services", you will see that they had 116 complaints over past 3 years! Bottom line: this company is profoundly dishonest. They do not advocate for their customers. They only want to get as much money out of you as possible. KEEP AWAY from them! There are plenty of great locally owned companies that will provide you with honest service. UPDATE: a plumbing department supervisor called me to "address my concerns". He said that it is company's policy to discuss the cost of the job before the tech starts working, and there is my signature that this was done. LIE! The tech DID not discuss the price of the job before he started and I DID not sign anything before job began. Secondly, the tech logged almost an hour and a half of labor. ANOTHER LIE. He worked for 30 min only as I described above. This brief encounter only reinforced my impression of how dishonest this company is!

The work was completed when I was out of town and they came back a few days later to install a surge protector they forgot to install earlier. That's when I found out the 2nd guy no longer worked there. He was either fired or quit before they did the work on my house. The work completed was not what was discussed with either of the ex employees. I discussed This with the owner over the phone and he said it didn't matter because they went off what was written down on the quote and weren't aware of the discussions with the ex employees. (Internal communication issues) I also questioned the final invoice since it was $300 more than my 50% downpayment. The owner said the guy who picked up the down payment figured it out wrong and the 50% down payment should have been about $150 higher. I Agreed to pay in full since they did do what was on the quote and went into their office to write my final payment with a check since they charge a 3% credit card fee. The front office girl assured me to pay "this amount" which was $300 less than what I had talked to the owner about. I asked her 3 times if that was correct and even pointed to the correct amount on the invoice. She told me again to pay the amount that was $300 less saying that was for a credit card fee which didn't matter since I was paying with a check. 2 days later I get a call from their office and of course they want their $300 and I agree to pay but ask them to cover the 3% credit card fee which was $9 since it was their mistake and I didn't want to drive there again. Their bookkeeper said she needed to ask the owner about covering the fee and I hear the owner say in the background "what is up with this guy, put him on a list- we are never doing work for him again." I should have trusted all these 1 star ratings and gone elsewhere. The electrical work was all done correctly but there are severe administrative issues with this company. Communication is lacking and saying your going to blacklist a client over your employees mistakes is ridiculous- if you have them do your work they may do the same to you.

TL;DR Hire someone else for your electrical needs…read more After Hurricane Ian I had some electrical problems with a breaker powered two bedrooms in my house. I attempted to troubleshoot the issue myself, but couldn't so I called A-Lumination. The owner's wife scheduled a technician to come test the issue. She told me that the service fee would be roughly $79 or $119 for an annual plan that would mean no more service calls. I opted for the annual plan. Roberto arrived the next day & went to the service panel to check the breaker issue. After testing all the diagnostic efforts I tried, he said we would need to check the outlets on the circuit. He informed me the diagnosis would be $600+, which wouldn't include the repair. I felt that was rather expensive, but I needed the electrical fixed so I said that would be ok. He then told me we'd have to open each outlet receptacle and switch known to be part of the circuit. I asked if he had a toner to trace the signal without disassembling all the outlets. He informed me he didn't have one. I worked with Roberto to remove all the outlets. He then tested the breaker and it continued tripping. We found the first outlet in the circuit & the breaker stopped tripping immediately. He then attached the neutral wires from each receptacle with a wire nut and the hot wires in the same manner to test the continuation of power from outlet to outlet. Several outlets in one room were not powered still. We found the problem wire and went under the mobile home to see if we could trace it (without a wire tracer or toner). After a few hours of fruitless labor Roberto left and I paid him $757. I ran a new wire and breaker and installed a new GFCI outlet to power the run of wire that powered one room and installed new outlets and switches to the entire electrical run. I separated that from the problem wire to restore partial power and solve part of my problem. Though, I felt the diagnosis was not complete. We still were no closer to finding where the problem wire ran and therefore could not run a new home run from the breaker since we didn't know what else was in the circuit I called & spoke with the owner's wife again and said I didn't believe the issue was fully diagnosed. Roberto was not able to trace the wire and therefore had no idea where it ran other than that four outlets were not operating correctly. She agreed that their techs should bring tracers and other electrical tools and said he'd come out the next day free of charge. Before he was set to arrive the owner Steve called and told me that he could have Roberto bring an advanced circuit tracer to label all the breakers and determine which circuit all the outlets and switches were on. He told me the price would be $356. I agreed since the breaker box was poorly labeled. Roberto came back out with with a Klein Tools toner Model Number VDV500-063 and started tracing the circuit more. He found more outlets that were part of it including exterior outlets on a back porch, which had its roof ripped off with Hurricane Ian. He didn't have an advanced circuit tracer to test the problem wire further and didn't label any breakers or provide any information about what breakers any other receptacles were on. After several hours, he apologized for not finding more and recommended I just rewire the whole house. He never asked for payment. Since he didn't accomplish the work Steve said he would, I figured he was just finishing his initial failed diagnosis. Then I got a call from Steve demanding payment of $376, which I begrudgingly paid. He affirmed that there was no way to trace the wire without ripping up all my insulation under the trailer. I then purchased Klein Tools ET450 Advanced Circuit Tracer for $200, which I used to trace the wire (without removing insulation) & in less than an hour found it connects in a junction box under the trailer to a capped wire running towards the well, which had been severed. I diagnosed the issue further by simply buying the right tool. Don't hire A-Lumination. Waste of money.
