Today I went there for the annual Broadway Heights community organization breakfast. Comfortable with good food (mid-April each year). The Recreation Center has BIG front desk, weight room, exercise room, restrooms/locker rooms, Gym, Teen Center, meeting rooms too. All well kept. Great view of mountains outside of back of gym during your break. Nice modern design and architecture. Across the street is Mountain View Park with a small rec. center building. The park is pleasant on the north side, but a little rough on in the center. There is a baseball diamond with bleachers on the southwest corner. With rough grassy area on the southeast corner. The tennis courts have no nets that I saw and in very rough shape?? The basketball courts are in the center of the park and looked playable. There are a few picnic tables and some shade trees. A Brand New children's Playground is being constructed to be open in a couple of months directly across from the community center, but there is no street parking on Boundary Street, which is a one-way going north. You MUST use 40th Street via T st. to get to Mountain View Community Center. There is another park, Southcrest Community Park, that is just a few blocks south on 41st St. which is what Boundary St. turns into going south of Mountain View Community Center. Main entrance off South 40th Street.

From bandaids to food wrappers to hair ties to grocery bags -- it's all in the sand. The play structures are old. In looking at photos, they are at least a decade old and it shows. Things are weathered and warped. The grassy areas are very nice. There are lots of paved paths. The parking lot is really big. There is a small area of covered patio tables, and there are a lot of benches. Oh, and there are bees. In fact, there are signs warning about the bees. Not great for kids.

I really liked how the rec center provided 4 nets & all these pickleballs! This is the first time I've seen a rec center provide SO MANY balls. I really liked that the court outlines were clear and one singular color. It makes it way less confusing. I also liked that there's plenty of room for running/getting between baselines and the benches. Also loved that they used benches instead of bleachers. NO MORE PAINFUL clawing under bleachers/peoples' feets for smashed balls that rolled underneath. The wait gets pretty long here (prob 25-30min/game and you only get to play up to 8 when there is a crowd. Winners stay and can play up to 2 games (they split off in the second game). I like this system, as it balances out the skill set. Everyone faithfully honored this system, and would get out after their 2 games.

You missed it! Jazz Artist Rose Mallet Featured This Evening…read more One of the best-kept secrets in any community is its community center. While many people think of exercise classes or meetings, these centers often host incredible cultural events at surprisingly affordable prices. That is exactly what I found at the La Jolla Community Center's summer concert series featuring jazz vocalist Rose Mallet. The evening was elegant without being pretentious. The concert lasted about 75 minutes and attracted a mature audience, though I couldn't help but think younger adults are missing out by not exploring the non-traditional venues. Tickets were very reasonably priced compared to many jazz performances around Southern California, making this an exceptional value.$30.00. The center also showcases artwork from local artists throughout the building, with many pieces available for purchase. A simple snack bar offers reasonably priced refreshments, with most items costing under $5. The venue is comfortable and accommodating, with plentiful restrooms, indoor seating on folding chairs, and spacious outdoor seating that includes large communal tables and smaller café-style tables. Seating is open, so arriving early is worthwhile. I arrived around 7:30 p.m. and had no trouble finding free street parking, though valet parking is also available. Most attendees dressed casually. As for me, I took the opportunity to dress like my fashionista self and the occasion is always worth it If you're looking for an inexpensive evening of live music, art, and community, don't overlook your local community center. Hidden gems like this are exactly why I enjoy exploring them. I'll definitely be back for another performance this summer. TIP: Sane day purchase is $5.00 more per ticket after 12 pm

I first saw that there was one in Balboa Park (which is currently still under winter maintenance), and upon some further research have discovered there are ~15 pools around San Diego with lap lane hours during the week and weekends, with a drop in rate of $4 per day! I've suffered through so many swims at the indoor pool at 24 hour fitness, not knowing there were these available to me! Specifically regarding the pool at Carmel Valley Rec Center. I came on a weekday evening (5:30pm) in May. So I assume things may change in the summer. But I had a lovely experience! The outside of the Rec center, and parking area is much nicer than some of the other rec centers around San Diego I've visited. I paid my $4 entry fee and went through the locker room. Of note, there are no lockers at this pool (there are at some of the others), however I also felt much safer leaving my bag out on a chair at this one than some of the others, there are showers. The water was warm enough, but not too warm during my laps. I swam for 45 minutes and had the whole lane to myself the entire time. It looks like there's a big slide that goes into the pool (that wasn't open while I was there), as well as a cute play area for kids that's right next to the pool.

There was like 8 kids there total.. and the lifeguards keep screaming at the kids on their bullhorns. Direct quote: "no holding your breath underwater, it could be mistaken for drowning" The majority of the pool was laned off for lap swimming during the 1.5hrs that the pool was open for free swimming. The only reason to go here is to giggle at this real life SNL sketch being acted out. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_d2XfUXn0kY&ra=m
