Parkglen Animal Clinic - This is the day I took her in to see Dr. Hamilton. Picture doesn't capture anywhere near how bad she looked

Parkglen Animal Clinic

Been going to Parkglen Animal Clinic for at least 45 years now. Currently I have 13 cats and 3…read moredogs that I take to Dr. Hamilton for their routine health care as well as their health problems. Couple recent encounters where I felt the service was exceptional: Two years ago my two month old rescue puppy fell very ill. The clinic is closed on Saturday and I was referred to Vergi. The vet at Vergi wanted to do a $6000 surgery and when we declined, pressured us to euthanize him (not exaggerating about the pressuring). The next day (Sunday) we went to see Dr. Hamilton. Meris blocked out an entire hour to devote to figuring out what was wrong with the puppy. He had a kidney infection which a round of antibiotics and steroids knocked out in 3 days. Just this past week which is why I'm writing this review now, one of my cats looked like she was dying (to the point we were planning her funeral). Rather than give up on her, I decided to take her in to the vet. Difficult diagnosis with a controversial treatment, Dr. Hamilton diagnosed her with Feline Infectious Peritonitis. Untreated, FIP is 100% fatal. Possibly the most difficult pet issue I've had to deal with to date. She's been on the antivirals 3 days now and will have to take them another 3 months. She may still die but she is already looking a lot better. Summer is only 6 years old. I also want to mention that aftercare at the clinic is attentive and outstanding. Dr. Hamilton and Meris truly care about the animals they treat.

I was referred to see Dr. McCoy by Sneakers primary vet, Pet Vet for a small mass in his mouth…read more The clinic was easy to find right off the freeway, but frankly a distance from Clear Lake. Upon arrival, his front desk staff were exceptional and kind to me as well as Sneakers. Dr. McCoy met us quickly and assessed Sneakers mouth. He noticed that the mass was pushing his front teeth. Sneakers was immediately diagnosed with periodontal disease from the looks of his mouth. Dr. McCoy explained the steps with details on how he'd surgically remove the small mass and then send it off for biopsy to verify if it's benign or malignant. He showed me graphics for better understanding. Dr. McCoy included that he would have to remove all of Sneakers teeth in the front. All of it sounded nice and I kept asking about the price as well as availability. Dr. McCoy would redirect my questions mentioning that the vet tech would go over all of that with me towards the end. After he left the room, the vet tech came in. She gave me two pages of price sheet covering everything. The price for the surgery was $4K. I was livid! Not even none of my surgeries of procedures have ever been that price. For a dog, it's at an outrageous price of 4 grand and can increase to 5. I was expecting it to cost a couple of hundred bucks, nope! The only option for payment plan was to get Care Credit (basically a credit card with high interest rates). I asked the vet tech if I could take Sneakers to his primary vet for the surgery. Her tone quickly changed and said that, if his primary vet referred him out that they didn't trust to do the procedure themselves as their specialty isn't dental. Umm, I was told by Pet Vet to get the estimates of the procedure and they can perform a cheaper surgery. I told this to the vet tech and she said that they were the professionals. She said the sooner they can work on Sneakers mouth, the sooner he will feel better. But Sneakers hasn't made an outcry of pain and has been his normal cheery demeanor. The vet tech said that was normal and the animal can still be in pain. Oh goodness me, I don't understand these money hungry vet specialty clinics. They seem to be all the same.

This is a large and truly impressive state-of-the-art veterinary hospital complete with exam & treatment rooms, labs, O.R., rehab, grooming and boarding. Upon high recommendations, we made an appointment to take my grandson's Preschool mascot in for a "checkup." We were immediately greeted by Ms. Melody who was very sweet and accommodating. The waiting room is divided with one side for canines and the other for their small feline friends. Dr. Collin Hummel ushered us in! He was gracious & lots of fun--sharing all about the facilities and giving us a full tour. The staff is always busy tending to their patients but warm & welcoming. How I wish they had a sister healthcare place in Broward, but if I lived in Fort Bend County, Texas, this would be the choice for all of my Nala's healthcare and grooming needs.

When I tried to schedule another follow up with him, they said he was going to be out. So, I just checked LOAH's website & Dr. Eslick isn't listed anymore. Also, my normal vet, Dr. Brode isn't listed. Looks like a bunch of vets left. But the staff never said a word.

The facility was very clean, spacious, well organized, and had refreshments in the lobby if you're in need of one. I didn't have to wait either since I had an appt and they just put me in a room immediately when I walked in with my pup. Dr. Lee and his staff were very nice and professional in taking care of my dog. Dr. Lee spent a good amount of time going over possible diagnosis and treatment plans in detail as well as cost. The clinic I usually go to has no appt available, and my dog was vomiting and having bloody diarrhea. I was hesitant bringing him to another clinic that may potentially cost me an arm and a leg. I took the risk coming here because I wanted to make sure my baby gets treated ASAP. They are upfront of the charges before they do anything, as I do understand some vet clinics can put a heavy price on their services (at the end of the day it's still a business) but I think their prices are reasonable compared to a lot of places. My dog is doing much better now thanks to VCA! Give this place a chance, I would highly recommend it!
