Service and ambiance were quite nice considering the tourist trap location in Lugano. We dropped…read moreby at 6:30pm to an empty restaurant on Sunday but was warmly greeted and seated.
When I queried the server whether they were really open, he said of course, just that most people didn't stay for dinner on Sundays.
So, the two of us ordered two pastas and a pizza to share. The pastas were just passable, with noodles that were past al dente and arrabbiata sauce that was rather lacking in Calabrian peppers and garlic. Still, the server was quite proud of his trick of adding some brandy to top off the pasta. That probably helped but couldn't rescue the pasta.
The pizza was better, as it came fresh off the oven. At least, we lucked out as the neighboring table was presented with two blackened lumps of dough that obviously had to be sent back.
In a pinch, this will do, just don't expect quality Italian food despite the proximity.
