I hired Spaulding Decon in 2016 to clean my parents house, as my mom was a hoarder. They were punctual, courteous, efficient, communicative, and organized. They were able to negotiate with my mom on what stayed, and what could go. My sister and I helped the 2 technicians, and the work went by very quickly. They had a trailer for all donations, and a long dumpster for the trash. They were very appreciative of our help, and we managed to finish in 1/2 a day. The technicians were so happy! Unfortunately, my mom passed away 8 months later.
Fast forward to last week. The experience was much different. I live in California and flew to Florida again to clean my dad's house, and get rid of my mom's belongings. A technician went to the house beforehand and gave us an estimate on the cleanup. We told them there would be donations, sorting, and trashing. We had 3 rooms and the garage to do. The first day they were an hour late, and no one had the courtesy to call to inform us. The first room was the most challenging, and it went well. The big problem is they only had a trailer for trash, and they said they would put the donations on last. In the meantime, all of the donations were in the living room. The house felt overwhelmingly cluttered, as things were just being moved to another room instead of out of the house. My dad felt very claustrophobic, and couldn't get his wheelchair around the stuff. They started the 2nd room and did about half the first day. They kept telling us that they were running out of room and they would have to try to get the rest of the stuff tomorrow. They said they would come early the 2nd day because they were late the first day. They were half an hour late the 2nd day, and this time they didn't apologize. This had me worried that they weren't going to finish everything that I was paying them to do in time. My nephew and I decided to help them to make sure they could get to the 3rd room and the garage. They didn't want our help and called their boss to complain. I got a phone call from the project manager, and explained how they were late both days, and my concerns of them finishing. I spoke with one of the technicians, and we came up with a game plan. Everything was fine at that point. Then, their boss Laura showed up to check and see how the job was going. Apparently, they were supposed to call for a donation pickup, but didn't know. We were working in separate rooms, and one of the technicians asked me to come in the 3rd room to discuss some things. Laura asked me to leave the room, because it was too crowded in there. There were only 2 people in the room at that moment, and he asked me to come in there. We finished the 3rd room, and headed to the garage. All 4 of us cleaned the garage, and it went very quickly. They were running out of room, and time, so we were unable to finish the garage. A woman came by and asked them how much they would charge to haul away her headboard. The technician said $20. This was extremely unprofessional, because I paid them lots of money and they were on my job. To keep telling me they were running out of room, and then to take something from a passerby is inconsiderate. They moved all of the donations to the garage, and came by to collect them a day later. I asked for an estimate on finishing the garage, and they said someone would be in contact with me. They didn't contact me. Laura also said she would give me a mold remediation estimate in a day or two, and didn't. I called to tell them I wanted to close the job, and I would use another service for the mold. I didn't get any compensation for their tardiness, as I was still charged for 2 full days. In the end I would recommend Spaulding Decon if you have a disgusting job that no one else would do. Although, I think they need to improve their communication, organization, and punctuality. read more
