Depending on whether you're heading to Myrtle Beach or leaving, Sparky's is either the first or last Myrtle thing you will see. Like a lot of Myrtle Beach, Sparky's simply screams "tourist trap" with the bazillion billboards you will pass before reaching it. It ends up being a successful tourist trap and the place is always rocking, but it's still worth a visit. For starters, the gas is cheap here. It's cheaper than you will pay inside Myrtle Beach itself, so it's smart to gas up on the way to Myrtle or on the trip home. The store itself is huge and offers all sorts of random crud, so it's sure to be a place to get that last-minute souvenir for the neighbor watching your cats at home. There's also safe restrooms for the kiddys who need to take a potty break. The biggest downside is the traffic, as this place is guaranteed to be hopping. The prices for the stuff inside are also marked up to convenience store prices, so you may spend a bit more for drinks and snacks than you would at the grocery store. The items are a little pricey, but the food itself wasn't half bad. I ordered the pulled pork basket and got a lot of pork. The kids had fun walking around looking at all the little trinkets. The bathrooms were decent, not as bad as I was expecting from previous reveiws. Overall a nice place to stop before the long haul home. read more

As far as the actual store its a tourist dream. If f you collect stuff from your travels this is the place to go. Some prices are high some are reasonable, depends on what you get. As for the bathrooms the ones up front were closed when we stopped but the ones in the firework area was open. They were cleaned OK. Not nasty at all but not perfect either. The one toilet I use however was broken and did not flush. We have never eaten here but did get ice cream once and it was fine. The pecans we bought were wonderful, pricey but they are anyway. Warning! I'm not sure what happened of it was on purpose of just a computer glitch but we have two exact same charges twice. So of you but here keep an eye out on your account or use cash. At this time I am not saying they have done anything wrong. I will update when all is said and done. read more

I found a lot of cool sea stuff I like here, there were alligator heads, (which are not as scary as you would think they are), starfish, sea animal lights, hermit crabs, shark teeth and a huge gumball machine which I think isn't for sale. I got a sand dollar and a shark jaw. They are gonna be my souvenirs from South Carolina. So overall it's a pretty good place. read more

It is without a doubt the one "tourist trap" that is wanting to be so much more than it is. The facility has that nice layer of "trailer park" written all over it and the staff always has that "damn Yankee tourist! They never buy a thing!" Look on their face. But that aside, some of the things are good. Gas? Unmmm no! Never buy gas at a place that advertises anything other than gas (roadtrip101) they will always be a few cents more, however things you can get are cheap tshirts, nicknacks and boiled peanuts. Bathrooms are a bit on the dungy side, so unless your a "high and mighty" Broad, or a nancy boy of a guy.... You might want to go down the road. Though all the negative aspects, I still give it 3 stars, their boiled peanuts are good and the prices on the tourist stuff are fair, just don't buy entire wardrobes there or redecorate your house (maybe your trailer lol!) and in the end tourist traps are apart of sound a road trip! But I can recommend "South of the Border" just a hop,skip and jump away. read more

First of all, the bathrooms are far from clean. This is going to be negative one way or the other. When asking if the fudge that was being sold was gluten free we were met by a rather rude older female employee behind the counter who very firmly said "NO! NO!" Now fudge is a food that naturally should be gf, so either they are selling fudge with unnecessary additives or the employee I spoke to was not knowledgable whatsoever and just being dismissive. With 32 billboard in a 3 miles advertising sparky's i just had to check it out.It is a Awesome tourist trap and i loved every minute of it.Sparky's has everything from gas to local jellies and everything in between.Fireworks check shells and crabs you bet it is the beach after all. Restaurant serving bar b q yep its the south clean restrooms.Sparky's is a must stop every year when leaving the beach. So on youre way out stop by sparky's for a fill up a bite to eat road trip snacks and of course souvenirs. read more

We stopped for breakfast on our way home from Myrtle Beach. If I had gone into the restroom before ordering and paying for our food, we would have left. The restroom toilets were very dirty. The coffee was good but the bacon tasted spoiled so was uneatable and grits were watery. I would not recommend this place for anything other than cheap souvenirs and coffee. And stop somewhere else for a restroom! read more

Something for everyone. Very Clean restrooms, plenty of parking even if you have campers or RVs. Huge fireworks selection, we got a great deal on some to bring home. read more

BBQ sandwich was good. This place has fireworks, novelties, and pretty much everything else. For a gas station the food isn't bad. The burgers aren't too shabby. I tried the cheeseburgers and the BBQ pork. The pork was better than the cheeseburger. If you're driving by and can't decide on a food place, this one isn't too bad. read more

It had a clean bathroom when we needed it. The hermit crabs were feisty but the paint jobs on the shells were hilariously bad. Buyer BEWARE!! I stopped by to get a few things on my way home to Georgia on Wednesday/ 10-16. I used my credit card only here my entire trip. By the next day all sorts of fraud charges were getting put on my credit card. I called the store today and the person who answered the phone said their was no manager? So I explained the fraud charges on my card and she didnt say a word? She said she could have someone call me back! I told her you have a thief among your employees stealing customer credit card numbers and ordering stuff with them. She didnt seem to care at all! So I wouldn't buy from here ever again! read more

Tourist trap. The billboards all up and down the highway say they have clean restrooms, cheap gas, etc. The men's room was filthy. The gas is 11 cents higher than one we saw about 2 blocks further up the road. Also, I tried to make a purchase using my debit card and was told they have a minimum $5 purchase for that. We always stop at Sparky's on our way back from Myrtle Beach. They have just about anything you could want or need. The bathrooms aren't the cleanest, and some of the souvenirs are overpriced but other than that I have nothing negative to say. It's a nice place to stop and take a break from driving and also get gas at the same time! read more

An a-ok place to stop and shop. Also snacks, drinks, ice cream.... It is one big store where you can buy a souvenir you may have forgotten to pickup in the Myrtle Beach area. However, they are not a discount store. They have everything from tee shirts, shells, jellies, pecans, etc..... Bought a drink, a extendable back scratcher (a great find) that I can put in my bag, and small homemade pecan pies for a dollar. I bought three! Save your money. Nothing but corn syrup with a nut topping. Not one whole pecan to be found in the pie. Waste of money! read more

This is the worst tourist trap I've ever been to in my life. EVERYTHING is over priced, and not just a little.... We are talking 700-1000% markups from other locations! Shark tooth necklaces, $11, which are $0.99 down the road. Cups are $10, little photo books are $20. The prices are to the point that it should be illegal! read more

I was on the way home from Myrtle Beach and we stopped at Sparkys. It's a great place but some of the staff are rude this one lady my grandma asked if she could pay at that counter she didn't say anything. At the end she got an attitude with my grandma saying "we only sell gas and cigarettes in this line" it was very rude! Other than that it has good snacks and great souvenirs! read more

Prices are outrageous for their merchandise. If you're in a rush, don't bother ordering food. We ordered a BLT, hot dog, and a scrambled egg and it took over 35 minutes to receive. People who ordered after us received their food well before us. The store is dirty and the eating areas are unkept. It is a tourist trap for certain. read more

They have everything you could possibly imagine, but the store is dirty and expensive. Bathrooms are cramped and beyond disgusting. It makes South of the Border seem like a luxury resort in comparison. I would not recommend stopping here except out of idle curiosity and with a large bottle of hand sanitizer waiting in the car. read more

My mother fell on their steps as many have done and broke 4 bones in her shoulder. After over 2 weeks of trying to contact them I finally received a call back from the owner stating he would do nothing to help her. All the people that have fell on this property due to the stairs being not in code at the time of the fall and he things he can get away with it. Do not go to this location again! They have no concern for anyone and you can get the same stuff they sale at the beach for cheaper. He was terrible rude and offered no help and even hung up on me. read more

LOVE IT! I've been going to and from the beach for 30+ years as a kid and adult; this is the first time I stopped at Sparky's and I LOVE it. It is a bit pricey compared to stores similar to this; however, it is the last tourist type stop out of beach area. read more

Walked into Sparky's at 6:45pm. The girl behind the register looks up from reading a book and says, 'Just so you know, we are closing in 10 mins.' According to the website they close at 10. Just so the management/owner of Sparky's knows, I absolutely would have purchased something tonight. You can thank the girl behind the counter for not receiving that purchase. Today is May, 17, 2016. Plenty of overpriced trinkets if that's what you want. CAUTION Signs warning of a $5.00 minimum credit card purchases. On the wrong side of hi-way 501 if you're heading for the beach. Easy access, plenty of pumps. Seems there is a different register to pay for everything (and not clearly marked), but the worst is... I thought I had paid $3.32 for a half-tank of gas for my bike (higher than most in SC, but for only a gallon?) but when I checked my bank account two days later I have a $26.00 charge on my account. I'm afraid to even think of how much money would have been tied up if I'd filled my Wrangler ($100.00?) I thought that by now this (highway robbery) credit hold business had been outlawed. Sparkys is a traditional stop for me and my family when we visit Myrtle Beach, SC. We have always loved stopping here in the past and we usually spent some money here as well. However, our stop this year was not as pleasant as before because one rude employee spoiled the whole experience for us. When sampling the fudge do not ask for more than 2-samples even if you have already requested some for purchase because according to a rude redheaded woman who looks like a man employed there their store policy is that you can only sample 2 flavors of fudge although they have several different kinds. If you are planning on purchasing 3 or 4 different kinds forget sampling to see if you like them or not before you purchase. Needless to say I will purchase my fudge and gas elsewhere from now on, thanks to miss butch!!! read more

The many billboards definitely get your attention. One advertisement is totally not true. We have travelled from Indiana to Sarasota, fl & then across Fl to Myrtle Beach. We stopped @ Sparkys on our way back to IN. They do hav e a lot of over priced stuff but the bathroom stunk & was filthy. The worst I have seen on the whole trip. (alotg of stops, we are on a motorcycle) I have never wrote a review but had to on this one! If you stop in, just use the bathroom before or after stopping atg Sparky's. read more

It's been almost 20 years since I've been here, but I'm getting my revenge. My parents and I stopped off at this place on the road to Myrtle Beach. There was an old lady in the ice cream part of this place. it's still at the side of the building where it was back then as well. White customer after white customer came in, and she served them. We tried to get service and she did nothing but ignore us. I'd never seen anything like it. I never forgot the name of this dump and tell everyone that drives to South Carolina to avoid this place. read more

This place defines itself from the outside, or so it would seem. The interior reveals an uncharted sea of previously undiscovered bipedal specimens that raise the People of Walmart to truly classy levels. The 50 mile billboard onslaught tours Clean Bathrooms. No. The local hog farm pens are clean bathrooms in comparison, and are likely to offer actual toilet paper. Trust, no definition of clean includes these facilities, not in this or any alternate universe. In order to complete the experience, we had no choice but to try the food. There is one word for the food: Don't. One would think pulled pork would be hard to destroy, but this particular offering was so amazingly bad, I'm tempted to send them a Fail trophy. Being a big fan of kitschy americana, this place drew me in for the sheer amusement factor. It was far from amusing, it was a slice of life you want nothing to do with. The parting shot was the cashier coughing some manner of wet sounding plague all over our change and purchase. Apparently we'll be carrying whatever disease created this curious roadside experience to the greater Charlotte area, they've gotta spread somehow! read more
