Bottom Line: Beautiful cupcakes. Yummy for the most part (especially the Salted Caramel), though there are a few that I wouldn't revisit. Cupcake shops were quite the craze in the states and in both San Francisco and New York they were a dime a dozen. This is not so in Sydney. There are loads of bakeries, but not too many shops that are purely dedicated to the wonderment that is the cupcake. Luckily, we happen to have one of them just around the corner from us! It's always a wonderful surprise when I get home to find the little Black Bag from Sparkle awaiting me (either as a treat after a bad day or a mini celebration). Favorite Flavors: Salted Caramel Banana Toffee Pure Sparkle Bonus! - my boyfriend got me a cupcake making class here for my birthday. Such a fun morning. It was just us and another couple upstairs in the Sparkle kitchen. We learned how to make macarons, panna cotta, and of course - cupcakes. Sparkle's hook is that it's the silver spoon of sweets, the black tie of bakery, frosting fine dining. Their cupcakes range from lavender to jaffa, vanilla bean to frangipani, and their team of cupcakers explore the wide spectrum of flavours in between (whilst staying moderately conservative - no chicken satay flavours here, unlike at other experimental patisseries). Champagne cupcake breakfasts are on offer, as are a Sparkle spin on a High Tea. They also run a popular party for special occasions (hens parties, baby showers, birthday parties etc.) which includes a cupcake cooking class in their on site kitchen. I don't think the cupcakes themselves were actually that fantastic. Not bad in any way, but not worthy of raving. Or, in fact, returning for. But that's not really the point here. Sparkle have filled a great niche market. So the next time you want to get dressed up and act as though that silver spoon was born in your mouth, don your best heels and gloves and head to Sparkle. Alternatively, satisfy your inner six year old - invite your favourite teddy bears, wear your Mum's high heels and pearls and sit around the table discussing playpen politics. Sparkle Cupcakery is a polished take on the wholesome cupcake trend with luxe black lacquered countertops and a mirrored wall whose circular print echoes the signature coloured spot on each perfectly round baked good. Don't be fooled by the vanilla icing atop each and every cake - they are serving up some innovative flavours, like the Middle Eastern inspired pistachio and cardamom, the Oriental Flower infused with lychee and rose plus rose petal frosting, and the sweet and fragrant Lavendar & Honey. Though initial visits proved successful with flavoursome, light cake bases, a recent trip turned out a disappointingly dry Pur Sparkle - their signature cupcake with visible flecks of vanilla bean bits. Great place located near Crown Street on Surry Hills. A range of beautiful cupcakes, fluffy on the inside and a good thickness of icing on top. The little coloured spots identify which favour you have. I got a box of mixed flavours ; 12 per box. Red Velvet, chocolate, lemon, vanilla, banana, coconut ice, gluten free and more. If you're in need of a sugar hit then Sparkle Cupcakery on Foveaux Street in Surry Hills might just be the place for you. It's filled with, you guessed it, cup cakes! I'm not sure if it's the actual cupcakes them selves that sparkle or the peoples eyes when they wolf one down but either way there will be some sparkle at some point. You can sit down and enjoy them with a coffee or I'm reliably informed you can have a 'tea party' or even a baking class here. And if you decide on none of the above you may wish to take a box back to work and share them around or head home and indulge in the comfort and privacy of your own place. I have a long history with Sparkle and it is my go-to cupcake shop because of location. If I were rating the kids parties at Sparkle, I would give it 5 stars. It was my favourite of all kids parties that I've hosted If I were rating the aesthetics of everything about Sparkle, I would also give it a 5. For the cupcakes themselves I give 3 stars. I like a more home-made tasting cupcake. These are a bit airy and fluffy. But they look good and the packaging is beautiful One gripe, I bought 4 dozen cupcakes on valentines day to give to different friends. I was a bit pissed off that I had to pay an extra $12 per dozen on that day for the heart shape on top (vs the usual round spot). So this added an extra $48 to my already substantial cupcake bill, and there was no extra cost to Sparkle compared to other days. Not really cool IMHO. Sparkle Cupcakery cupcakes have been an attractive and welcoming addition to my friends' birthdays as they are delivered beautifully packaged with an equally amazing taste to match. The mini cupcakes are especially ideal as bite-sized mixture of fluffy moist cake and rich sweet icing. Best flavors imo were pure sparkle (vanilla) and white chocolate strawberry. Sparkle cupcakery was incredibly disappointing...we recently went there for a high tea and all I can say is it was below average and a complete rip off the nerve of them charging $45 for basically a stale sandwich and a dry cupcake and a tea in a pot with a tea bag....if you are wanting a crummy experience this is the place for you....I for one will never go back and nor will any of my 10 friends who we went with for a hen's high tea....next time we will go to the Victoria Rooms where the service is fantastic and the food divine...... read more

Never again. I decided to order a dozen for a special occassion and was very embarrassed and dissappointed as the cakes were inedible, not just to me but to 10 other people that had the misfortune to be served these cakes. They were dry and appeared to have either been frozen or they were too many days old. The customer service response when raising a complaint was it was my fault for ordering the wrong cakes but would I like 12 more to make up for it. I ended up wanting a refund as I believed that unless you can actually eat something then it is not worth paying for. The owner believed that delivering dry, hard and tastless cakes is acceptable and they did what they were paid for. Buyer beware. read more

I am in love with cupcakes and they are great for celebrations or for cheering people up. If I see a cupcake shop I simply must have one or take one home - they are the best treats! So imagine my excitement upon stumbling across a magical place called Sparkle Cupcakes... ooohhh.... however when I went inside my experience was not so magical... on my visit I experienced terrible customer service and a frosty reception... the lady behind the counter had the most sour look on her face... I smiled and said "hello!" (my excitement at cupcakes evident) and her reaction was to look at me and say nothing... no hello, no smile :/ I went about looking at all the many various flavours in the window trying to pick one and that's when she came up and kept asking me which one I wanted... she was rushing me like she didn't want my business - it was really weird! She was so pushy I almost wanted to leave but I really wanted a cupcake so I said fine just give me a vanilla one to which she replied rather haughtily oh you mean 'such and such' (telling me the store's name for the vanilla flavour which I can't remember now) as if calling it a vanilla cupcake made it less sparkly :/ well I paid good money for said cupcake and took it home to eat with a cup of tea... the verdict?
