He showed up mid September and we didn't order enough. We found some on Amazon. He stated 'let me know when they come in and I'll be right over to finish'. That was the end of September. Again more delays. He finally came to finish them maybe in March. He did a terrible job!! The sequence of the spindles was not the same as the rest of the deck and he actually twisted the 4 x 4s. Gaps in the railings everywhere. We ended up hiring someone else to straighten out the mess he left. We requested he return the money it cost us to make it right but received no reply.

I paid him $19,350 between deposit and installments to keep the job I hired him for going. The completed job was contracted at $19,800. The job was not completed; the timeline kept getting pushed back. I was lied to about supply delays that were "holding things up" to find out the supplies were not ordered. The office manager lied and strung me along many times (per Lloyd's instruction, she says). My interactions with Lloyd--only two while I was trying to get the job done--were disrespectful, unprofessional, and angry on his part. As of yesterday, the office manager told me no one has heard from Lloyd, and she will no longer have a "phone" I can contact her on. I have no choice but to purchase the remaining supplies needed and hire someone else to complete the job I have already paid Black Hills Handyman, Lloyd Darling, to do.

After many calls to get this rectified, the owner showed up with a check and an excuse of his wife being in the hospital, as to why it took so long. The payment bounced, and calls and messages are continuing to be left and not returned. I do not have any other transactions with this Customer, but this is not the way a reputable business operates. I would guess that if they do not pay their suppliers or return phone messages, that it is reasonable to expect bad production as indicated in previous reviews. Would not recommend

Extremely Disappointed - Unprofessional and Poor Communication…read more We hired Dakota Builders to install a fence at our property, expecting the job to take 4-5 days. Instead, it dragged on for over a month. The contractor would show up sporadically, work a couple of hours at most, and then leave without providing any updates. Days would go by without any communication, leaving us completely in the dark. When I sent a polite and firm message asking for an update and reminding them of our deadline for our sod, I received nothing but a dismissive "Wow." We paid in cash, expecting a physical receipt and warranty documentation, but the contractor became defensive and said he would only email it after payment. After we paid, he texted my husband accusing his father and I of disrespecting him -- simply because we asked for documentation that any professional should provide without hesitation. This experience was frustrating, unprofessional, and unnecessarily stressful. I cannot recommend Dakota Builders based on how our project was handled.

Built our garage without a permit. Did not get required inspections done. The only inspection…read moreperformed was after I contacted the county and they informed me that there was no permit. They currently have 2 failed permits that were never resolved. The garage floor is a disaster. Horrible rough finish,. Framing for floor was constructed incorrectly, one side bowed out and another side had to have most of it chipped out to the correct size so the structure would fit. Snow would blow into the structure on both north corners whenever there was a storm. I was constantly catching them make mistakes. They installed the wrong color outer corner. They said they would fix it, turns out all they did was paint it with touch up paint. Almost every support stud above the windows and doors was not sitting on the headers, I had to add sister studs to all of those so they were actually supporting. Roof flashing had gaps rather than overlapping, they had to go back and fix that. On the west wall they missed almost every single stud with every single nail. I confronted them on that and they said they would fix it. Their way of fixing it was to take down the top 6 rows of siding and put them back up damaged, then they went in and just cut off the other nails to make it look like they fixed it, 73 in all. Many of the sheathing staples and many of the siding nails on the north wall missed the studs too (a lot not a few). After I confronted them about the siding they did not finish framing in the soffit boxes, causing the tin on north west one to bow badly. As a result snow would blow into the soffit on the west side. We held monies back and sent them a notice of defect to try to get them to fix these problems. Their response was to have their attorney send us a letter threatening to put a mechanics lien on our property. I have pictures to back up everything I have stated here.

After two months I started calling/texting/emailing to see if our bid was done. They said yes they were still working on it.... Needless to say it has been almost 5 months and no bid and didn't even hear back from this company after touching base in September about our bid. Definitely go with somebody else! At least if a company isn't interested in doing the project they would at least tell you they couldn't do it, not leave you guessing about if they are ever going to get a bid to you. I respect companies that say hey you know what, we aren't interested or don't have time, not companies that leave you hanging and never get back to you.
