But if you were paying attention, the writing was on the wall the second Annabel left back in February. She was that place her leadership, her energy, her actual care for people. And once she was gone? It completely lost its heart. The vibes tanked, the direction felt aimless, and it became pretty clear something was seriously off behind the scenes. Don't sit here and act like this is just "the next chapter." Be real. You had something incredible, and somehow managed to run it into the ground. People showed up for the mission, for the team, and for the community. But instead of transparency or accountability, we get a carefully packaged farewell post like everything's fine? It's not fine. This didn't have to happen. But whatever happened internally clearly mattered more than the community Spark claimed to care about. Disappointed, but not surprised. read more

We stopped here for lunch/brunch during a recent trip to Lexington. I found it on yelp and loved the mission of the place. I had the pancakes and eggs and they were delicious and well cooked. The cutest spot for lunch in downtown Versailles! My MIL and I stopped into Spark Community Cafe while shopping after passing by and seeing their menu posted in their window. We were greeted warmly and were immediately able to be seated. The restaurant is right on Main Street and offers plenty of seating with lots of natural light on sunny days. Their mission statement shares that they focus on providing farm-to-table meals for their community. We started out with some iced teas while we looked over the menu. I had the black bean veggie burger sans-cheese with a side salad. Both were served in generous portions! I love a house made veggie burger- they are always 100x better than anything frozen, and this was no exception. Spark operates by a pay-what-you-can method and encourages patrons by saying "If your pockets are full, pay-it-forward. If your pockets are light, pay-what-you-can. If your pockets are empty, volunteer your time with us." I would absolutely stop by again the next time I am in Versailles! Great place is downtown Versailles for weekend brun Their motto is "Dining with Dignity". This is a café with heart and a goal to serve "food insecure", as well as provide for the entire community. Patrons whose pockets are full can dine and pay it forward. Those with lighter purses contribute what they can. And if pockets are empty, guests can exchange volunteer work for their meals. No one is ever turned away. I admire Spark Community Café for their purposeful partnership with local farmers. They gather as much local produce and meat as possible. Once summer is in full swing they expect to support their community growers by using 80% of their produce locally. Oh, and did I mention they care about the environment as well?! They utilize compostable, take-out boxes and soup containers, along with straws and napkins. They also compost all of their food waste. This place has an amazing mission and everyone should go! The burger was phenomenal. The owner is extremely nice. All the food is local and all proceeds after paying for expenses goes to the mission. He told us how they fed 56,000 people in need last year and he feeds at least 200 people in need per week. All of the employees are super friendly. I'm not often in Versailles, but was looking for somewhere to brunch before my husband and I went pumpkin picking. I loved reading the mission of Spark- pay what you can, community giving, no one is turned away- and the food is also excellent! I had their brunch special burger and my husband had the pork chop- both were delicious and well worth the price. The restaurant was really clean and all employees were strictly following all recommended health precautions, except they're not really employees because the restaurant is run by volunteers. Food was excellent. Service was good. They followed all guidelines of mask wearing and keeping patrons separated. I forgot to take pictures of our meals but my husband had the chicken and waffles sandwich which he said was awesome minus the fact that the waffle wasn't "crisp". I had the side salad and pesto chicken pizza and both were very fresh tasting. I recommend getting a little side of pizza sauce with this pizza and it is more of a flatbread style than pizza. We will be back! Only downfall in my opinion is they don't have their menus listed anywhere I'm guessing due to the fact that they rotate the menu so often but it would be nice to either have daily or weekly updates of their offerings in case we wanted to come in for a specific menu item. Take out would be difficult since you'd have to call and ask them everything on the menu but that's just the personality I have in needed to see a menu before going to a restaurant. Spark Community Kitchen is a 501c3, Pay what you can afford, restaurant in downtown Versailles. They advertise that they locally source their food. We just had the Sunday buffet. Waffles, biscuits, gravy, scrambled eggs, meat loaf, green beans, roasted potatoes, green salad, red beans and rice. The suggested price was $15/person including your drink. We have certainly paid a whole lot more for a meal that wasn't nearly as good!! The food was very well prepared, tastefully served, and delicious. The front of the house is staffed with volunteers and they did an excellent job. When my coffee cup was down an inch they were Johnny on the spot. I am glad to see that they are apparently doing well. They had a steady stream of customers the whole time we were there. We will definitely be back, that is for sure. read more

Fantastic experience with this Pay Forward café right in the middle of historic downtown Versailles. The food was great along with the excellent waitstaff who volunteer their service to support this non-profit effort. My favorites from the five + times I have dined there include the Eggs Benedict Pizza, the Spark Burger with never frozen French Fries (what a difference), the Kale Caesar Salad and the never-ending Brunch Buffet on the weekends! How can you not love this place?! The food is local and fresh. They have a great chili, pasta (when special), pizza, and salads. This last visit I had their Spark burger. It was good but not my favorite thing I have had there, but really I would eat it again. I had the chili on the side and it was yummy! Going there supports a great cause. A unique concept to this area. A needed alternative to the many pricey, underperforming restaurants with the "big" names. The 1/2 pound burger was just right. I seldom order hamburgers less than medium well when I'm eating out but the locally sourced fresh beef led me to take a chance. It was worth it. Best burger I've had in quite a while. My wife's chicken salad wrap was not as good. The wrap was thick and obvious commercially produced. The salad however was good except for the poppy seeds which I repeatedly mistook for ants. In a time of personal hardship and in need of real compassion for myself and two children, Spark Cafe generously offered us a meal and an inviting place to sit, eat and be comfortable. The food and service were excellent and far exceeded the expectations one might have for a typical Cafe(which this is not)... My kids and I loved our plain cheese pizza and side cup of chili. The dough had great chomp and the chili's spiciness was suitable enough for a six year old on his second sweet tea. For me, their hot coffee is hands down the best I've ever had; I was told they do same day roasting on a local bean. The service is just as well, generous and welcoming, the atmosphere pleasant and warm. It is a virtue to help and be helped and Spark sets a fine example through action and intention with big ideas and local scale. I would encourage any person in a time of similar need to go and be received, made welcome, fed and sustained. What an incredible place ! My wife had a Caesar Salad made of iceberg lettuce. I had a corned beef and pimento cheese sandwich. A self described farm to fork restaurant, Spark does more than just farm to fork. They're dedicated to decreasing "food insecurity" in the local area and increasing human dignity. I'm hooked and hope to become a regular patron. Wouldn't it be great to see Main Street Versailles become the farm to fork center of gravity for farm to fork restaurants in the greater Lexington region !!! read more
