I have lived in a rural community before in the past and I think that both local stores and supermarkets can compliment each other. The shops that I find locally (Spar and Co-op) are not that attractive so we already shop at a Tesco in Porthmadog or in Cardiff - or go to Aberystwyth especially for our food shopping. Spar and Co-op are chains, too and the choice of food is bad. I really like the independent shops in Machynlleth but I will always go there if there is a Tesco's or not. Many of the good independent shops do not sell food. They are the Spectrum Art Gallery and Ian Snow. More people would visit those even if there was a Tesco. A good thing. Some of the traditional people never want to change things and are afraid. Unfortunately they contribute to negative effects.

DIOLCH AM SIOPA HEFO ALDI. SPEND A LITTLE - LIVE A LOT (ALDI UK). Aldi encourages people to bring their own shopping bags instead of using plastic bags. Bought milk, mineral water, wheat beer, coffee (no, not instant ;-)), and more. It made a huge difference to my shopping in Machynlleth moneywise. I also got fresh fruit here! Since life in Wales is expensive one has to go here unfortunately really.

Food prices in the UK are just too high, and I miss a quality of eating culture very, very much. I could not live like this forever. Every month once I shop here now: for the basics!!!!!! First, I get the sparkling mineral water in the bottles, lots of juices, toilet paper, pasta sauces. The beer they sell is good, too - but here the price is a lot because of high UK tax. When Lidl came to Britain my English and Welsh friends did not like it at all - but now that they see one can actually save some money - and some of the products are good or on the same level with other shops (but cheaper) they like it!!!!!

I recently visited this Asda for the first time on a very busy bank holiday weekend. After a short wait a parking space became available and in I went. To be fair they have pretty much anything you can get in a larger store and I managed to get everything I needed. After another queue at the tills, not enough but no space for more, I made my way out of the car park which had if anything got even busier.

There is a large car park and I have never struggled to park here. The shop is often busy and it can be difficult to get around amongst all the other shoppers. There are not very many check outs which results in some long queues. The staff at the tills are generally quite friendly and there are usually quite a lot of staff on the shop floor, though they are more likely to be talking to friends than helping customers. The prices are quite low compared with other local supermarkets, but this is reflected in the quality of the goods. There are a lot of non food goods, and recently a George clothing department has been opened.

The cafe has been relocated to the new upper floor but is woefully short of toilets, a whole two and they're both intended for the diasbled however a wheelchair user would need to run the gauntlet of the tray carrying cafe customers and the closely placed tables in order to use them. To say the layout wasn't very well thought out is a bit of an understatement. Unfortunately the store also has a thriving home delivery service which has expanded into the carpark. Shoppers use the free parking spaces at Tesco to visit the newly built Eagles Meadow Shopping Mall which is opposite the store making parking in what was already a small carpark almost impossible on a saturday. At peak times you'll be queuing to get in and queing to get out.

Fantastic butchering services, if it's not out on the shelf they will do it for you. Boning a shoulder of lamb for instance, not a problem for them. Tesco don't do this. Good value deli, not a spectacular choice but good enough. Love the salad bar & fresh bread. Usually plenty of cashiers on, who will help you pack if you ask. Watch out for the AA/RAC reps on the way out. Just cover your ears and run past, mumbling "no thank you". My only gripe is the lack of price reduction on items that are approaching the sellby date. For example: Brisket joint £6, reduced by 30p to £5.70. Same joint at the end of the day now reduced by another 70p down to £5. Then it's chucked out. Come on Morrisons, it costs you money to have this stuff taken away. Just reduce those items more and they will shift off the shelf.

The shelves here though are often empty, the selection of fruit, veg and bread is poor. The meat is not good either but they have a new deli counter now with more cheeses. The selection of local beers is good. You have to wait a long time in the queue because often things are not working. I hate shopping here but there is not much choice, and I prefer the Co-op still to the Spar. There is no toilet inside the Co-op or a place where you can have a fresh coffee. Poor service, really if you think about it.

Yesterday I…read morewent to the store, as I was parking the car, I noticed a billboard on the trolley store promoting an offer of Dove deodorant at half price. I couldn't find it instore, so asked an assistant, Margaret, who went outside, checked the billboard, spoke to the Manager, came to find me, and told me that the offer had ended last week, but I was perfectly entitled to buy Dove at half price as stated! She was extremely helpful, as are all the staff at the Denbigh branch. I love shopping at the store, it is always a pleasure, and thank you Morrisons for your very fair treatment of your customers, no wonder we are loyal, I wouldn't shop anywhere else.
