They say it's the little things... and with me it certainly is! When I first discovered Nolan's…read moreFamily Supermarket in Clontarf I was swept off my feet. You can ask my friends - some of them were lucky enough to be dragged there to witness the greatness that is Nolan's (and I'm not kidding). For many months I stupidly did all my grocery shopping at Super Valu (an oxymoron if I ever heard one), but since chancing upon Nolan's I haven't looked back. This is a family-run supermarket in the posho area of Clontarf. There is one great thing about supermarket shopping in a posh neighbourhood - there is always a plentiful supply of gourmet food. Being quite the foodie myself, I have always been well impressed with Nolan's variety. Just a couple of examples for you... they sell lychee juice here! And mango and papaya and guava.... lychee is hands-down the best though... Their cheese section is extensive and impressive, and not too dearly-priced. They also serve a range of proscuitto, parma ham and salami, which makes Nolan's an ideal stop-off before a picnic on the Clontarf Promenade. The off-licence sells my absolute favourite new Zealand white - the Villa Maria - believe me, this is a lovely drop (as my grandfather would say). They often have this wine on special, and I saw it today for 11 euro (that is cheaper than it sells for in the Pacific, so that's saying something...) Nolan's are currently engaged in 'Store Wars' - check out the pic - logo just like Star Wars (my little brother would be impressed!) Store Wars is Nolan's promise that they will keep their prices equal to or lower than the likes of Tesco and Super Valu so people will patronise thier local independent family grocer over the mean and nasty chain superstores. I have always enjoyed my Nolan's shopping experience, and while the lighting and ambience aren't the best (but hey, it's a supermarket, not an art gallery), at the end of the day it feels good to be contributing (however minimally) to the decline of the Tesco giants. And just a quick piece of advice - you have to get your fruit and veg weighed and priced in the fruit section. If you take it straight to the checkout the checkout chick will have to go off and do it for you (a mistake you won't make twice!!)

Its also the nearest shop to me so therefore its my local supermarket. I would advise anybody who is out in Clontarf to check out Nolans and the Store Wars has certainly meant its great value when it would have had a reputation before as a pricey supermarket. Highly recommended.

Never found it overly busy or fussy, which I really appreciate - who likes the hassle of almost having to fight your way through to the last bags of apples? Also, never witnessed any dodgy activities and edgy security guards like in other locations. They brought in a new range of plant-based milks, and a lot of "foodie" options, like really nice wholegrain and seeds toasts. So right now, other than good cleaning products and specific toiletries, Aldi caters for almost all my grocery needs. Not going the full five stars because I wish they had a bakery and nice sourdoughs, but maybe one day...

Have been returning stuff constantly and they never give you trouble, neither am I. Great advantage to this Aldi is that beside it you may find Campus petrol station, which is rather cheap than expensive. Staff is always super friendly. I love this Aldi staff. Good job everyone working in there ;-) Another great upgrade here happened as in all other Lidls and Aldis is wireless payment up to €15 with supported debit/credit cards. Love that.

I normally shop at Aldi Laytown which us superb with lovely staff. Santry Aldi is a different story. Staff don't seem to want to open a full checkout even for trollies and keep trying to get oeople to the self-service scanners. I keep reminding them : I don't work here, please open a till. When queues were building up today, having declined to self-scan my own trollyload, reluctantly a call was made for staff to open another till and the staff directed the person behind me over, fortunately, he had manners and recognised that I should have been next and allowed me go ahead. All fine, my shopping was checked out but when it came to pay on the card reader I was denied the opportunity to give my rating of my shopping experience. The staff member turned the screen towards himself and gave himself his own review! Aldi need to be aware that their customer satisfaction rates are being skewed by staff giving themselves a good rating instead of allowing customers to honestly rate the shopping experience and give valuable feedback which contributes to improved service in the future.

I am 56 years old.And the whole time i have a camera in my face 12inches away recording my every move like im a criminal. Junkies hanging around outside all the time panhandling and they do nothing about it. it feels unsafe to go here too. if I had a choice i would shop elsewhere but they have it all sewn up now theres no more family grocers left. Customer service has long been forgotten. Shame.
