I thought this place would have other options to offer, but nonetheless it is amazing! Have some awesome variations of the churro and of course some great coffee. Check this place out and I highly recommend the Creme Brulee churro. read more

Being from Melbourne where the donut industry is serious business, I can safely say these doughies…read moreare up with the best. These are not your average donuts, these are cake donuts, so have the texture of cake and larger in size. Dicks Donuts have some pretty amazing flavours on offer. Some of which, being, peanut butter (true to flavour with Reeses Peanut Butter cups), Nutella, Nutella and Praline, Strawberries and Cream (both fresh), Canadian (candied bacon and glaze), including cronuts. You can taste that they have used good quality ingredients and that these badboys are made with loving hands of an artisan so you don't mind paying $4-6 per donut or less if you buy in multiples. It's easy to miss this place, I walked passed it quite a few times before I noticed it, it's only a very small shop front, you'll find them on the corner of Cavill and Orchid next door to the 7D Cinema.
This is only half of the selection!
When I first heard about Doughnut Time they had just opened their shop in the Valley. It was…read moredefinitely on my 'to try' list but I never really bothered to make the trek. But then this shop in Clayfield opened and I caved to the crazy donut hype and visited. Doughnut Time has a great shop front, bright green and a big neon sign, definitely a good way to draw people in. Old fashioned menu board and a window to see the doughnuts in all their gluten-y glory. My plan was to just pick 1 to try but my impulse purchasing took over and I bought 2. 'Splice' and 'Maple Bacon' were the two I chose to try. The Splice was nice, however the 'splice' flavour wasn't overly strong and it could probably pass for a standard glazed. The Maple Bacon was nice also and had a much stronger flavour, due to the bacon pieces on the top. Overall I enjoyed the donuts but at $6 a pop there's not really any chance of me heading back any time soon. My childhood memories (and regularly repeated now in adulthood) of a cheap cinnamon donut mean I just don't get all the fuss over these fancy donuts. Trying not to be a fuddy-duddy about it, and for a bit of fun it's worth having a bit of a look but I'm not convinced.
I wanted to love you, Doughnut Time. I really really did…read more I'm the annoying girl cropping up in all of the new doughnut and cronut and brownie shop Facebook pages begging for gluten free versions of your wares. I campaign hard and strong for Brisbane's glutard population and I was so happy to hear that Doughnut Time was ahead of the pack and already offering a gluten free version of their deliciously over-the-top desserts. While I wasn't enamored by the 'hole-in-the-wall' setup, the mint green is cute and the big doughnut is sure to make everyone smile, especially when it's lit up at night. I can't be alone in wishing for a sit-down area at which to enjoy doughnuts and milkshakes with my pals and or little people? Also the location isn't super convenient, but from little things big things grow, right? I asked at the counter about the gf options. Unfortunately at this point in time we're limited to the one flavour, one half white and the other half milk chocolate. OK, I thought. We all have to start somewhere.. And usually the simplest ideas are the best (ie: the plain gf cinnamon doughnuts at the Powerhouse markets). I was happy to put aside the tim-tams and chomp bars and settle for a quiet (in comparison) doughnut experience. I sat in my car and took my first bite. My first thought was - hm, this feels greasy. And wet. Cold and wet and greasy in my mouth. And chewy. These weren't good thoughts. Doughnuts (even gf ones) are usually fluffy and light and spongey and slightly crunchy on the outside -- or at least that's been my experience, especially at the aforementioned markets. These alas, are not. I took a photo of the inside of my doughnut with massive holes permeating like Swiss cheese. I'm not sure if it was undercooked or maybe they're still perfecting the dough? Either way, I won't be going back for a 6-pack anytime soon. Gluten eaters don't take my word for it!!! I have no idea what the 'regular' style doughnuts are like, but based on the presentation they look exceptionally fun and deliciously outrageous.
The delectable menu!

Also the meat pattie was over cooked and really hard on one side. They brought the "side" of fries out almost as an appetiser before the kids meal and burgers. In my life and travels and dining out, I've never experienced that. Fries at a burger place, is listed under "sides" ... so it should be served alongside the burger. Naturally. Whilst the venue is a dope setting, I would have preferred a Hungry Jack's Whopper to the Milky Lane burger to be honest. The service was nice enough though.
