Also known as Holbeinbrunnen, the Spalenbrunnen is located not far from the Spalentor (Spalen Gate). It is a public fountain and the water is drinkable though you'll want to consume the moving water rather than the water from the sitting pool.
This is one of the first fountains in the city, created as a joint effort with the Leonhardskirche as early as the 13th century.
The modern fountain is decorated with dancers on the pillar from a drawing by Holbein and the piper on top is a copy of an original by Dürer.
