This piece by Hans Geissberger (1921-1999) is in the Saint Alban Tor park, in sight of the famous gate along the roadway the tram follows. It is a striking piece but there isn't any artist's statement. "Schwebende" translates to "suspended" or "floating" and it does indeed look like a woman in a long skirt, perhaps floating in the nearby Rhine.
Geissberger completed several other sculptures that are on display in Basel including Der Geniesser that stands at the Neubad tram stop and the Wildentenbrunnen in the courtyards of the Niederholz school building.
