Best ice cream in the area. I always stop at Twisters when I come through Lansing. And you get a lot for what you pay!

Gosh, I didn't know what I was missing. This is a true IYKYK! Once you have visited Horrocks, you will return for life. This is a magnificent, rustic, unique, expansive establishment that offers a cornucopia of items. From floral, to meats, cheeses, wine, speciality items, fruits, snacks, vegetables, hard-to-find items and more. There is so much more! Things that stood out even though I loved everything about this place: -the vast selection of canisters of olive oils -the vast array of different varieties of balsamic vinegars (amazing!) -house made items in every area -house made popcorn with so many flavors, so fresh. -the many, many homemade soups: probably around 20 different kinds and delicious. -a ramen bar, what? -bakery -pizzeria -exotic fruits and vegetables and regulars ones too -the wine bar: sip while you shop. -house-made sausages and cheeses -house-made jams, jellies, local honey -extensive variety of spices, herbs, flour and grains - great service, very helpful. This is a must try and truly a destination. I cannot wait to shop and browse here again!

I will never visit this shop again. While they offer Hudsonville ice cream (super yummy) the…read morecustomer service experience we had was nothing short of atrocious. I tend to be rather understanding of problems, so it has to be a pretty extreme situation for me to flat out say I will not go back to an establishment. Here's my list of issues: 1) Their credit card machine was down. Actually not a huge problem, except when you consider that the only notice of such was at the other end of the shop.. directly away from where I was ordering. Oh and yeah, I don't carry cash often. And rarer still is the day that I have my checkbook on me. Also worthy of consideration- I was not informed of this until AFTER she had served up one of the ice cream dishes I ordered for myself and my children. Thanks, lady, you just doubled my expenditure because now I have to go to the ATM machine and deal with their fees. 2) The one ice cream cone she managed to serve me had the top fall off of it. I had to ask for a bowl, it was not offered, no apology or even recognition beyond a dull stare. Maybe she's overworked, maybe she's had a horrid day. Empathetic, but really not my problem. 3) *After* I truck over to the ATM and go withdraw cash at my own expense (yes, I probably should have just walked, but I had my kids present and moral yadda yadda, no stealing, etc) I walk back over to find that she's moved on to the next customers. Cool, I get it, but I would have genuinely appreciated it if she had at least acknowledged my return with at least a glance my direction. My daughter who has her ice cream in a bowl, now would like a spoon for her ice cream. She asks, is ignored. I'm now livid, but wait there's more. 4) Aforementioned daughter is 8. When this lady gets done with her other customers, I say, "First of all, could my daughter get a spoon? You didn't give her one." Now this.. this is the part that compelled me post this up in the name of all that is good and holy. Her response: "Well she followed you." OF COURSE SHE DID. We came back. Would it have killed her to hand over a spoon between scoops of ice cream for this other order? The other order wasn't complicated, they were in no hurry. Such a simple little thing, such a simple gesture that would have smoothed over so much, but alas, it was not to be. So, tl;dr version- Avoid this place, because the best case scenario is that their customer service is spotty. Oh yeah.. and it'd be nice to have all of their prices I dunno.. listed on the menu or something.

The countless times I have entered and felt the entire mood of the place and then suffered through it. I am not an old codger, dear reader. I am fairly optimistic, yet the most expensive issues for dining out are costly. For my time, my wallet and value. With that, I am pleased to offer "Cooperhawk Winery and Restaurant." It is beautiful. Inside and out. It is for the connoisseur and the starter. It is priced right and there is something for everyone. Ordinarily, I would dismiss this type of venue. But it was the occasion of our anniversary and my wife is a wine girl. So I did it. And when we walked in,,, it was stunning. The first thing you will see is the grand wine wall with a long bar in front of it. This is where you can choose wine tastings and flights. Get a little something before dinner. They asked me if I was a card holding member. I laughed and said oh no. By the end of the day, I was. And am glad for it. The staff treats you like you are welcomed guests. Kind. Intuitive... and helpful. They are educated and know their stuff. The wine tasting was outstanding with the Sommelier addressing every facet of the drinks we were trying. And it was delicious. We were called for dinner and sat in the main dining room. Beautiful. Warm. Clean. Immediately, our server showed and wished us a happy anniversary and brought us complimentary champagne. (When you reserve your seats, it asks about special occasions). A bonus. We had a warm soft pretzel loaf with butter as we waited. My wife ordered a filet mignon platter which she defined as excellent. I had a chicken dish with outstanding potatoes and fresh green beans. More wine please. We imbibed. While we were full from the main course they still brought out some truffles to seal the deal. We decided to join the club and got a membership. 2 bottles of exclusive wine a month for $50. A fair value as with it comes wine tastings, complimentary glasses of wine when visiting and several offers a month. We have been back several times, and each is better than the last. I encourage you to come a half hour early to enjoy the spirits and relax before your meal. 10 out of 10.
