I've been going to Space Salon for years, and Amberleigh is the only stylist I trust--she always knows what to do, and makes me look fabulous. Never once have I been in tears after seeing her. It's been a while since I have had a hair cut (July, right before my trip to Vegas), as I have been trying to be conservative with my money in order to save for my upcoming trip to Burma. Since I like to have my hair cut right before a trip (my previous haircut was in February, before I went to Bali), I called Space Salon to see if Amberleigh had any appointments available. To my shock and horror, I was told that she left Space about 6 months ago. And of course they can't (or won't) tell me where she is. I just want to cry. My appointment was at 1pm and I was about 5-10 minutes early. Stef was able to approach me at around 1:25pm from what I remember. I had already finished drinking my latte and I've completed the form. I believe she was just finishing with her previous client and was just taking result photos outside. My hair before was a medium to deep brown, and I basically wanted my base color to be a shade lighter and have some brown to blonde ombre. I showed her a lot of hair photos, and I thought we were on the same page when she said "you got it!"... but I was wrong. Stef, along with another stylist, both worked on my hair as they used a lightener. They were literally scrubbing harshly on my hair and fine bits of powder (or at least it looks like powder) were floating in the air from all the scrubbing. The fumes were getting in my eyes and my left eye was getting a bit teary-eyed. She did give me a damp towel to wipe it off, but I think my eyes were reacting because of the harsh chemical fumes and smell, so there wasn't really anything to wipe off. Since there were two of them, my hair kept getting tugged from left to right, kinda like tug-of-war. I don't think it was at all necessary to go through all that, as I only wanted A SHADE LIGHTER, not to have a full bleach-out on my hair from roots to ends. I was left alone on the chair a lot, she only comes back to peek if my hair has lifted, and there were barely any conversations with my stylist. We did have a short chat about my upcoming vacation, but it felt awkward and a bit like forced small talk. A lot of times throughout my 6 1/2 hour session, I probably was passed on to three different people while she went off somewhere else. The scalp massage that the other girl gave me was barely a massage at all. Stef gave me a scalp massage too which was a lot better, but it was too quick. Because she didn't explain what she was doing to my hair (sometimes I asked), I was shocked when she mentioned that she did a color correction on my hair! After a long process, when she was blow drying my hair and styling it, I noticed that my hair was EXTREMELY light! She claimed that it was what we discussed, which I was too shy to argue, but I mentioned that it was indeed too light and just asked if she could darken it a bit. My hair was really light yellow/orange all the way up to my roots, and it looks more like an overall orangey blonde, rather than a brown to blonde ombre that I wanted. You can barely see any brown at all. She then just went back to mixing some more dark dye for my roots. She also darkened my fringe that frames my face, because she said that that's what I wanted, so I trusted her. It looked really weird and harsh because my fringe were dark while the rest were really light mustard yellow. I saw her talking to the other stylists behind the color bar while the others have smirks on their faces and looking at my hair. I was a bit uncomfortable with the other stylists having glances on my hair from afar, but whatever. I think she became tired and annoyed that she probably didn't really care about what my hair would look like in the end anymore. When she was combing and blow drying my hair, she "accidentally" hit me in the face with a paddle brush. I sure hope she didn't do it intentionally just because she was getting pissed. But it did hurt, even though she said sorry. In the meantime, I just have to put my hair up in a ponytail and hide from the sun since I look like a mustard lemon head with some brown areas on top. Really long story short, I ended up with an empty wallet and a head full of YELLOWish-orange hair with dark roots, as well as smudges of hair dye on my neck and hair line. read more

Came here for the first time about 3 years ago and had been a regular ever since. The stylists at Space are generally very good and highly qualified. They charge more than most places ($60 and up for a man's haircut), but they offer a free clean-up within 4 weeks, meaning I don't need to come back as quick. When I called today to confirm my next appointment, I was told my stylist had quit. Based on their recent reviews, it looks like several stylists have left recently. Anyway, it was pretty strange when, instead of offering to set me up with another stylist, they simply kept repeating, "he no longer works here." It especially sucks because I had 8 stamps on my card, meaning I was only one away from getting a free haircut. My review is on the salons organization, not services, as I never made it in. Booked in 3 weeks in advance, as was the soonest appointment I could make with a mid level stylist. Got a call the morning of saying my stylist's last day working at the salonwas 3 days prior, and they had to reschedule me. They tried to rebook me with a junior stylist, I wasn't interested (I have wildly curly hair that is very difficult to cut well), and said I'd rebook later. They called me back and said they had a mid level stylist who could cut my hair at the same time, so I agreed. They then called me 2 hours later to tell me they were moving my appointment, because the stylist was running behind. I said no, because I had somewhere to be, and they said fine, he could cut it in the reduced time. I asked if he knew I had a ton of curly hair, to which she said no, I should probably reschedule a different day. By this point I'd had enough, and said I'd be booking elsewhere. So, no clue if they cut hair well, but if organization and customer service are important to you, would not recommend. read more

I had some great times in Space Salon. The last two times before I left were not as good. The owner was doing repairs and construction on days where service was taking place. IE. ladders and plumbing. I found this very unprofessional especially when the salon was not open on Mondays. Is this not the day to take care of these things?! I shared my story with a friend and she told me that during her appointment - the owner was bend over with full ass hanging out and had the gall to ask her to hand him some tools. It was my first time there and they ran through the whole salon very quickly, and I was barely able to keep up running around behind the person explaining everything. I eventually got myself into a gown and sat in what was described to me as the vault, where people wait for their stylists to come get them. When my stylist came, she said she didn't know I would be sitting in there waiting. Made no sense because I was JUST told to wait there earlier. My shampoo was unfortunately, just bad. I only had my hairline scrubbed. the entire crown area of my head was skipped, and the back of my head still felt like there was product in it when we were done. Scalp massage was just the same. Only the hairline, nothing else. Barely a massage at all. I asked for my hair blown out with volume and curl, and my bangs off of my face. I had my hair blown straight, my long, long over grown bangs styled over my eyes, and hair still damp when she went in with a curling iron. The curls didn't last until the end of my skytrain ride. The stylist was kind, but the whole atmosphere and the experience was enough for me not to give this place a second thought if I need my hair done again. read more

Going to Space - or any of Mr. Levine's salons, really - is like taking a short vacation from the world. I have been a client with Mr. Levine for many years now and I always receive plenty of helpful attention from the staff. Upon entering the salon one receives a cheerful greeting immediately followed by the offer of a beverage - I'm often actually amazed at how consistent and prompt this service is. Often, one will then receive a borderline orgasmic head massage (the best part of the already wonderful experience, frankly - I'd pay just for that). The whole staff, from what I've seen, is extremely talented and I've discovered over the past few years that more than a few of my friends also coincidentally go to his salons (of course they do, we have impeccable taste). Mr. Levine himself consistently lavishes me with attention while giving me compliment-worthy haircuts. I am always treated like a princess and always leave feeling gorgeous, relaxed, and that I have received more than my money's worth. I have to admit that I'm surprised by the negative reviews, as I have never had a single bad experience in the 4+ years I've been a client. After a spate of terrible haircuts, I was thrilled and relieved to find a place that not only made me look fantastic, but made me feel good on a consistent basis. I've been going to Lucy for 3-4 years now, and when she moved to Space from Caramel I obviously followed her. I went in for a consult before booking my first appointment, and on my very first visit I went from dark brown to honey blonde in once sitting. In the years since we've chopped it off and gone blonder and blonder. I'm always stunned by how perfectly she understands exactly what I want, makes it look better than I pictured in my head, and does my hair so it fits my lifestyle (i.e. low-maintenance and don't have to come in as often to get roots done). Not once have I left an appointment without being happy with every strand on my head. My experience at Space was fantastic, just as it was at Caramel. The front staff are super friendly and made sure I got a tour to situate myself before hopping in the chair. I am so in love with my hair. Its everything, a beautiful cut that grows out nicely, very classy but with a slight twist. I don't have bad hair days anymore - it always somehow just works. I'm usually hesitant to stray from my usual stylist but due to their inconvenient location, I decided to try Space Salon and I'm so glad I did!! I specifically chose Ryan since he specializes in long hair, and that was reassuring enough. He did an excellent job with my extremely long (and very flat locks) and definitely added volume and amazing layers which I'm sure will grow out beautifully. He paid attention to what I wanted and executed my request fantastically. Amber is the regular stylist that I have gone to for about two years at Space (previously located at: Statik Salon). I've basically given up regular "fast food" haircut salons because the cuts I get make me look eighty times more awesome. Never have a felt like I was being 'rushed' out for the next person. I suspect she may have a mild case of latent OCD (I know this as I suspect I may have the same). But her disorder is to your benefit, the customer! After my horrible experience at another salon, I decided that it was time to find a new stylist. I had been putting the experience off for a long time, and had been cutting and dying my own hair. (Only a trim of course)! I had been to Space once before and had enjoyed the experience so I decided to give it another chance. I phoned once and their computer system was down, but I was working early mornings that day and so phoned 10 minutes after they opened. They were super apologetic and I phoned them back half an hour later and was able to book an appointment with Celina. After I booked my appointment 2 days later I realized that I had booked it far too late in the day and phoned back to see if I could start at an earlier time. They were totally okay with this which was really helpful for me and my busy life. I got there on a Saturday at 12 am and they immediately put me in a chair and asked what I wanted to do with my hair. I have SUPER long hair and so I asked to get around 5 inches off. It had simply become unmanageable. We agreed on a length and then she shampooed my hair and gave me an excellent scalp massage, which is actually the best thing in the world! Because I was getting so much off I was a little bit anxious, my hair was down to my belly button and now its at bust level and looks great. Celina did a great job calming my nerves and was super chatty to me. I hate it when stylists are awkward or act like they're having bad days so I was happy that she was chatty and interesting to talk too. She had an assistant curl my hair and even taught me how to do it, because I have no idea how to do my hair.... I just brush it through like twice a day and leave it. Anyways she showed me how to curl my hair and I have been doing her technique and it has been working very well! Celina is a great hair stylist! The entire experience only came to 63 dollars, I always try to tip well so it came to a little more, but I have spent way way more on hair cuts that were not nearly as good. read more

I can't say enough about space. I went to Alina when she was at caramel, then when she at Tao. She's incredible and when I wanted my hair different shades of red over the Years and she nailed it. I felt like switching it up a bit when she became (well deservedly) a 'master stylist' and became a bit out of my budget and I've been going to Charlie for about a year now and couldn't be happier with her. The staff is stylish and friendly but not pretentious. All the Levine salons are guaranteed to leave you feeling sexy and confident when you walk out and I wouldn't switch salons in a million years, and that's saying a lot as I've shopped around. After moving back to the mainland from Victoria, I have been on a never-ending quest to find a place that understands my "hair philosophy". I had a favourite salon I used to frequent as an undergrad in Vancouver, but unfortunately, it has a high turnover rate, and I can never manage to have the same hairstylist twice. I did a lot of online searching, and have had my hair cut at numerous salons, but I was most impressed by Erin's cut at Space. The salon itself is visually quite cool. They've made a creative use of the space and for someone with a disability, the entire salon is wheelchair friendly. Although I transferred to the salon chairs, the option was made available to move the chairs if I preferred to stay in my chair. The most important part, however, is the hair cut and colour I received. I have had my hair dyed at other salons, only to come home and realize that simply half of my hair actually picked up the dye. Erin talked me through the different options after I explained my issue, and she even explained the science behind the dying process. Thanks to her, I was able to make an informed decision, and got exactly what I was looking for. This cut is probably one of the coolest I've had in awhile! It's nearly impossible to find pictures of cool bobs, as it seems like all you ever come across is graduated, inverted, run of the mill bobs. I told her what I was looking for, she gave me a realistic consultation about what my hair could do and what product could do without pushing any products on me unnecessarily. By the time she was done, she had completely transformed my head of hair. I wish I would have taken a before and after shot. This stylist knows what she's doing! Not only that, she's easy to talk to and no awkward moments. Perfect balance of conversation and comfortable silence. My fingers are crossed that she'll be there when I return later this summer. read more

I have been going to the same stylist since Tao Salon.... aside from having one haircut back in the beginning where all the hair on one side of my head was cut... my cuts were pretty good, even that cut was good just not what I asked for. It took me three years to completely grow that cut out. I had one colour mishap; I asked the stylist when mixing the colour "that's not going to be warm right?" because it looked orange. I was told no. Needless to say when the colour was finished my hair was saffron coloured... warm... I wanted cool blonde. Then recently I wanted to go from blonde to ombre; a caramel brown fading into my blonde. Seemed like the easy way to say goodbye to blonde. The first colour was streaky, chunky, and the dark was spotted all over my blonde. So I went back to get it fixed, when I came out of that my hair was almost black/auburn on top - it'll fade right? (it didn't) I had booked two hours for that correction appointment, an hour and a half in my stylist had another appointment. So an apprentice was assigned to finish styling my hair. She offered to curl my hair with a flat iron... I said sure. When I washed my hair out the next day I quickly realized the last two inches of my hair was so burnt I didn't even know what to do. I battled with it for about a week before cutting it off in a moment of rage, rather hacking it off. I then had someone else tidy the ends up. The last thing I wanted to do before an upcoming wedding I was to be part of was to cut 2.5 inches off my hair and have it be a colour that is no where close to the PICTURE I brought in. A week ago I went into Space Salon to have the ends of my ombre lightened. Upon arriving for my appointment, I was asked to fill out some questions in regards to my goals for my hair and what I liked about my hair. I stated on the sheet that I wanted my hair to be healthy, and one thing that I loved about my hair was its length. After completing the questions, I was led to the colour bar where I selected my colour from their colour chart. The hair stylist and I agreed on an ashy light blonde, and she told me if they're unable to lift enough colour off of my ends then I will go one shade darker. I asked her if the colouring will damage my hair, and she told me not to worry because I would be getting their cellophane protein treatment. After the first processing, I was very surprised that my hair had turned platinum, when I touched my hair it was slightly "gummy" in texture. I sat in the hair washing station for a bit while she continued to colour my hair. She said it would be nice to make it more ashy with a bit of grey tones to it, so she proceeded with the colouring. When I returned to the hair cutting station, my hair was silver grey with shades of blue and greenish tinge to it. The ends of my hair were burnt and fried despite having their treatment. Considering the damaged condition of my hair, the stylist continued to brush my hair with full force. I ended up cutting an inch off of my layers. When she started curling my hair, the heat from the iron "ate" my hair, so it turned it to a completely different colour. The stylist said don't worry we can fix that by putting some toner on it. She came back afterwards and said we can only apply minimal heat on my hair because it is so porous. My curls did not hold for the night, it became extremely tangled. I was very disappointed when I got home and I called back to reschedule to have the colour fixed. The next day, the same stylist got a senior stylist to come over for a second opinion. She agreed that the ends of my hair were fried and needed more trimming. The three of us decided on a darker warmer blonde to counteract the silver/grey that was in my hair. I specifically asked for the hair colour that the senior stylist had, and she said they would be able to accomplish it. Unfortunately after several processing, my hair still had a green and grey tinge to it. Both stylist came back and said that was the best they could do, and my hair colour should reach the shade I want after several washes. My hair is now even more damaged. I had to cut off another inch. And after several washes, the green and grey tinge is still here. I am very disappointed at the results for the price I had paid. I felt like the stylist I had was angry at me for coming back for a colour correction. After coming back for my second visit, I realized there was nothing they could do that would benefit my hair. In addition, during my second visit the receptionist approached me and said they charged me the wrong amount during my first visit and requested to refund $75 to my account. I'm not sure what would have happened if I didn't return for a second visit. This actually happened on the day of my birthday, and I was truly disappointed. Love love love Space! I've been going here for years (although I wish I could make it in on a more regular basis) and not once have I left without being absolutely in love with my hair! I've done dark brown to platinum blonde and now a little more my natural color with highlights and it's always turned out flawless. I went and had a recommended appointment with Jaelyn who supposedly is a top stylist. After a lovely consultation, she started my ombré. Almost 3 hours later I'm told we couldn't achieve the right colors in this sitting and to make a 2nd appointment in 2 months to finish it off. I was charged $250 for a hair cut and a brown colouring instead of ombré. I'm now expected to pay another $150-200 for the second sitting to 'finish' the ombré. What a joke. $400+ for an ombré? This salon is a joke. And a rip off. The management should be ashamed. I called a week after my appointment to complain after having thought about the money and results and was basically blamed for having black hair and the fact she couldn't color it like I wanted. I had my hair cut Tima. The salon it's self is starting to look dated, there's mismatched chairs in the hair wash area, No hot water in one of the bathrooms, paper towel dispensers that wouldn't look out of lace in the local park bathroom. Tima was late, she first came in to the waiting area asking for a completely different person and then reappeared 5 minutes later actually looking for me. She seemed to understand what I wanted doing to my hair ( shoulder length bob with layers at the end and not too thinned out). When washing my hair it felt like she was washing a car (rough and with no due care and attention) she constantly kept banging in to the wash basin , which in turn banging the wash basin in to my neck. In regard to the hair cut she was rough and disorganised, she would cut one side of my hair and the rough it up and not check her lines when cutting the other side. She was too preoccupied with the colour she had just done and which the lady was completely unsatisfied with (think lilac brown frizzy mess) and to be fair if I was her i would have been completely dissatisfied too. Again she couldn't stand up without banging into my chair constantly !!!! When she had finished the wet cut she said "don't judge it just yet, I've not finished" I've had my hair styled like this for quite some time and am aware that the stylist will finish off the shape when my hair is dried. When my hair was dried (dried by a assistant as Tima was too but trying to sort out the aforementioned colour disaster) she hacked in to my hair with thinning scissors. When I say hacked I mean HACKED, when she cut in with the thinning scissors she didn't open the scissors to release my hair she just pulled them away from head, this really hurt. Like I said I've had my hair cut in this style for quite sometime and never has anyone used thinning scissors on it. I had to point out at the end that my bob was uneven, Tima couldn't work this out herself !!! I wasn't showed the back of my hair in the mirror , as again she was too preoccupied rearranging her schedule to sort out the colour disaster. For the price they charge for Tima I'm completely disappointed, for a start she needs to learn how to stand up straight without banging in to things !!! My hair cut is mediocre but luckily my hair grows quickly. I used to go to Space salon a long time ago (Erin cut my hair then but she left), I wanted to go back as it was a convenient place for me however I've learnt my lesson .... so too hopefully has the woman with lilac frizzy hair !!! read more

My wife she comes home and she tells me about how she walked in to this salon and they charged her an arm and a leg for her hair color and how their stylist sold her on the salons hair products which ironically is called "product" and how this stuff will revitalize your hair, and make your hair healthy. She bought herself some hair spray, shampoo and conditioner and as a gift she bought me some styling molding paste. The next day her hair is noticeably frizzy and orange. I'm not one to notice these things but her hair looked like a straw broom. She called the salon to tell them how unhappy she was and they never got back to her. She then had to go to another salon called Style Lab and thankfully they were able to mitigate the mess that was my wife hair. The stylist at style lab was named Jeremy had to cut two inches of her hair and he suspected they didn't use this stuff called olaplex that she was charged an extra forty dollars for Now you'd think I'd be done ranting about this salon... No it gets better... The next week I start using this salons product which ironically is called product on my head because i'm all out of my usual di-fi brand. The next day my scalp is dry, and very much to my surprise i have small scabs on my head. At first I'm not sure what its from. Week goes by the dry scalp goes away head is fine, use this garbage on my head again (at this point i'm not sure whats causing it) and my head the next day is dry and i have scabs. WTF. So now i know whats causing it, so I stop using it and surprise surprise the rash on my head goes away. I've used many styling products and dippity-due never did that to my head. I ask my wife about her supplies and she said the stuff she bought was no better and her hair spray was the equivalent of using water If i could give this salon a negative score i would read more

My requests are usually pretty simple, but for some reason stylists always decide to take out the thinning shears, even though i said not to, and completely ruin my layers, razor my hair, and make me look like a mushroom. After moving from Toronto to Vancouver, I needed to find a stylist & salon as good as my previous one at Donato's. After a few horrible hair cuts from other salons, I finally found space. I read all of the staff profiles and decided to go with Devon. I absolutely LOVE how Devon listened to what I wanted, did what I requested, and I love my hair. I even followed him from Caramel salon (I like to stay with the same stylist when I find an awesome one). If I were to sit in his chair right now I would not say a word and know/trust that he will do an excellent job. Only issue is I've moved to the Seattle area and Devon is always fully booked on weekends! I will have to find time to drive up and see him.. I feel like a stalker, but that's what happens when you're awesome at what you do :) read more

I was excited to get a new haircut at Space. The salon is beautiful and really rockin. I had reviewed all the stylists profile and decided to give Erin a try. She was a level 4 stylist and her cuts were $70...a bit steep for me but I thought why not treat myself. Erin was nice and I showed her pictures of the a line bob cut that I wanted. She said no prob and began to cut my hair. Halfway thru, I knew she was having issues with cutting my thick hair. She kept saying my hair was too thick. The bob she gave me looked awful. It looked like my hair was never cut...but just chopped a few inches. She simply then used a flat iron and blew dried it. The cut was boring and awful. You would think a level 4 stylist would give better cuts. My $20 haircut looked better. I was so disappointed. I will not be going back. A very good salon. The things I like about Space... The Hair stylists are experienced and have good taste. They will not make you look bad. The head massages are very relaxing! They will listen to you and won't start until you feel confident that you are understood. The staff is friendly and they like to celebrate your beauty with you. There is no parking, but they are close to the Skytrain and easy to get to. They offer complimentary water, coffee or tea when you arrive. Some of the staff are so into hair, they do shows and photo shoots on their own time for fun and for a challenge - it's awesome to be around passionate people. Things I do not like about Space... Every visit costs $200 minimum, even for a cut and colour with the least experienced hair stylists. I would like to support the same stylist as he/she moves through his/her career, however while their rates increase by 30% or so, my income does not. I feel badly when I see someone who used to do my hair, but I can't afford her any more. I wonder how many clients they lose when their rates increase, and whether the rate increase is mandatory. They play fairly intense electronic music constantly and after 3 hours or so of it, it's pretty tiresome. I actually went to a different salon recently because I didn't want to listen to that music. Maybe it's just my hair, but I always feel that it turns out a little safer, darker and more modest than I envisioned. read more

I booked an appointment over the phone for a same day appointment. They were really great about getting me in. I saw Lyndan (sp?) and she was fantastic. I took off about three inches of hair and a completely different style. She was meticulous in her approach and checked in multiple times about various aspects including bangs, layering etc. My hair looks and feels great-- I felt very comfortable with the process and will definitely be back. read more

I really really really love coming here!!! Just so you know, until the end of 2012, I hated and feared all salons. I'd never had a haircut I really liked -- I just tolerated them, or hated them. Also, since sometime in 2006 I had been dealing with my hair by myself. After growing it out from a very short cut, I needed some extra "zazz"... I saw that Space was a new salon and that there was a promotion coupon thing if you booked with Marc in a certain month. I happened to be going to Vancouver during that month, so I called and asked for Marc... I AM SO HAPPY I DID. I've gone back for an additional two haircuts and they were both amazing. I have never been so pleased in all of my life. Great personalities, great service, great style, great communication. I also feel like the prices are VERy reasonable for the quality you get. I have always gone with Level 2 stylists -- Marc and Salema -- and they did such an amazing job. The first time, I went with Marc and we hit it off immediately. I felt really at ease with him -- usually I feel like hair stylists are kind of fake-friendly and trying to push products at you, and I didn't get that at all. He treated my (very damaged) hair very gently -- I didn't think he could make much improvement since it was so busted, but it looked 200% better. He also did EXACTLY what I asked him to, no unpleasant surprises. I have since seen Marc a second time and the experience was just as good, he had me laughing the whole time. It was actually fun! I also saw Salema once when Marc wasn't available. She has great style so I was a bit intimidated! But there was no need to be, she was really sweet and did a great job fixing layers that a stylist at another salon had botched. It's clear from looking at the other stylists and customers that the people working here have excellent taste and skill. Anyone else I've dealt with at the salon has been nothing but pleasant and accommodating. And visually, the space is amazing. read more

Maryn was wonderful. She is a skilled listener and is very good at explaining every step of the process. I never felt rushed, misunderstood or forgotten during my appointment. I am very happy with the result and look forward to returning again! The salon itself is very nice and clean. However, they ran out of Olaplex and the shampoo I was going to buy at the same time. Hopefully just my bad luck and not an issue of under-stocking. Overall a great experience though and would recommend it! read more

Is there an option for 0 stars? Had 2 very unsatisfactory color experiences at Space. First time I had to go back 3 times, spending considerable $$ and wasting valuable time, and still the end results wasn't what I wanted or expected. Second time was even worse and now my hair is a complete disaster. Stylist would only "attempt" to correct it for more $$ and now I am stuck with horrible color that can't be removed. I emailed the salon and never got any reply, so add bad customer service to my complaints. Needless to say I won't be going back - fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. (Cut was also very poor but stylist did correct it somewhat for free). read more

I needed a haircut..like now. I googled and Space Salon came up with a discount to try Rachelle at 50% off. Her speciality was listed as guys hair so I was just a bit nervous. I shouldn't have been. She's awesome. When I arrived she gave me a tour of the salon which at first I thought was weird but after spending a bit more time with her I appreciated it because I knew I'd be back. And so did she apparently! There is something to be said of a salon that just knows you will love them without being pretentious about it :) She took the time to look through photos I had and actually gave me her opinion. I walked out with a completely new hairstyle and felt amazing. I had never noticed this salon even though I walked past it every day, but now I will definitely be back for all my salon needs. I went to Space Salon for the second time, and boy was I disappointed. I was very excited to go back because the first time I went, I had the best haircut EVER! I don't know what happened this time, but I did not feel like the proper care was put into my colour or cut. I work hard for my money, and to walk out of there $250 later not getting what I had expected was quite disappointing.She could tell I wasn't to impressed. I made it clear it wasn't what i was asking for, but still thanked her for her service. BE CAREFUL WHO YOU SELECT AS YOUR HAIR STYLIST. do your research well before you pick. Sometimes they listen, but don't LISTEN. I expected an expert in the field, but i was guiding my stylist the whole way this time. If you come to my job, I"ll be an expert in my field and tell you what works best. I expect the same back. I will add again, that my first experience was great...I'm just not sure if I want to go there again after this experience. I have never come home and cried because my colour wasn't what I wanted. #firstworldproblems read more

Did a walk-in appointment for a cut, as my stylist is out of town. Asked very specifically for an excellent cutter, and was offered 2 options - a junior or senior stylist. Got a 4 pm appt with Natalie, the senior. Arrived a bit early, and was informed that Natalie was running 15 minutes late. OK. S*** happens. A little after 4, I was taken to the wash station - super loungers BTW. There was an unpleasant odour wafting about in the area - dirty laundry. The first thing that happened was that the trainee 'lost control' of the hose, and doused me. Full in the face, sweater soaked. Was not wearing waterproof mascara, had to ask for a towel. She then started the water WAY too hot. The head massage might have been pleasant, but... other events made that experience fade deeply to the background. Waited another 15 minutes in the chair for Natalie. She arrived at 4:30. Decent enough cut - she's talented. My hair is not easy to deal with. However, she used the wrong products on my hair, and offered to sell me some, as is the norm. (I declined.) Something called Beach Balm(?) when my hair quite naturally does what this product is purported to do to it. Styling 'butter' was heavy, and did not provide the lift I prefer. All in all, not the best first impression. I'm unlikely to try them again. read more
