This is a nice part of the cultural district because they always seem to have different, thought provoking exhibits and events. I like that it's free admission and open during weekdays as I often like to walk through on lunch break to check out the latest installations. Really a lot of fun to come here and learn about the artists and their work while also conversing with other patrons on their views of the pieces.

One of the best art galleries in Pittsburgh! Associated with the wood street gallery, space shows contemporary art - often very experimental art. Their shows are never boring and a must see especially during the gallery crawl when it is open late. It is super easy to find and a big space too- They show photography, sculpture, works on paper, video (check the special video room in the back!) depending on the exhibition.

Space is just that a space but it's what fills this Space that makes it special. Its a large room that hosts some interesting art work. My favorite is a piece of installation art. It's tree limbs that are in the shape of Guns. Very interesting. The exhibits change regularly and if you like art this is a place to check out. I could see Space being a great place to host an event. This was my fist time so I can't speak to other exhibits but I will be back.

I went here for the second time during an Art Crawl. They had free beer. They had small tables set up with crafty clothes, plates and some prints like a flea market. Nothing really artsy or inspiring that I hoped to see.

I feel so fortunate to be employed and working downtown. Hell, I feel very fortunate to be employed! But working in town is awesome. There's a plethora of dining options, it's so convenient to stick around after work for a concert or a play and there's so much free music and art in this city. As for galleries, Space is my favorite. The exhibits, which change about every two months, usually lean a little on the avant-garde side of the scale but the art is always tasteful and can be thought provoking. I'm amazed more people in this city don't take advantage of all the free culture available to them. I personally love it!

I really like Space, because it makes art very accessible and convenient for everyone. The gallery is free, changes every month or two, and is located right off of a busy downtown street. It's a great place to pop in for a few minutes, whether you're walking by or waiting for the bus. I don't always understand the art or necessary like it, but there have been gems. I really like the current exhibit - Check & Balances. It has what looks like a bed made of nails, but some of the nail heads are what look like Hershey's kisses (it smells like them). It's just fun to see the odd things people come up with sometimes!

The gallery was really cool and the person working there was kind and welcoming. We were amazed it was free. The artwork was phenomenal.

There was a sign on the corner of Butler and 43rd indicating a cookie stop was down this street. Am I ever glad I followed the sign; otherwise, I would have remained on the main drag of Butler and never ventured into this lovely oasis. It's in an old house that is charming in itself. You make your way from room to room on the first floor. The day we were here, there were books in the front with the author present to sign them (gift number one), hand knit scarves next in line with the maker present (gifts number two and three), handmade earrings further back (gift number four), and artwork hung on the walls in the hallway. Everywhere I turned there were eye-catching handmade pieces. Definitely on my list to re-visit for those one-of-a kind locally made items.

You wont find this place unless you see their sandwich board situated on Butler Street. It's tucked away on 43rd Street and looks exactly like the rest of the houses on that block. Inside you'll find a variety of local art including paintings, pottery and jewelry. I'm not much of an art buyer and, while I really like their stuff, I simply can't afford it. However, their jewelry is priced low enough that my mom can indulge every once in a while. If you're into locally made, handcrafted art, it's definitely worth a look. The place is rather inconspicuous on the outside but on the inside it's a beautiful Victorian era house brimming with local art and behind the counter is a very nice lady that'll answer any questions you might have.

Then I ran across a gorgeous mosaic by Rachel Sagers and snatched it right up! The woman who helped me with my purchase was friendly and made sure that my art was carefully wrapped and ready for transit. The feel in the gallery is spacious and welcoming, and the art was so unlike other things I've seen. Some items are pretty pricey but it's great to browse. I would come here again for sure.

As my wife and I travel to various destinations local art is our souvenir of choice with our walls in our house telling a story of our adventures. Joy does an incredible job understanding our style and willingly accepting any challenge we throw at her. We have now had close to 20 pieces framed with little direction other than big picture vision. She has never failed to delight us!! Lastly, Joy the owner is reason enough to visit. She is a wonderful and welcoming host that could gladly have you extend your planned 10 minute visit to over an hour. The conversation and friendliness are always a highlight. The galleries are located above the Wood Street Station Downtown where you'll access the gallery from the side of the station- you won't go inside as if you were heading to the T stop. The galleries are located on the above two floors so it's probably best to work your way from the 3rd floor down, but that's not what I did... The Gallery FYI is not open Monday. The exhibit we saw was Nonotak, which were a row of diamond-shaped lights hung from the ceiling which had lighting attached to it which seemed to move along to the sound playing from the speakers. It gave it a trippy feeling almost like a pumping heart. Also, it made for some really cool photographs. The other portion of the exhibit immersed you even more into the artwork You were able to step inside the piece of glass which felt like infinity lights covering you, giving you the feeling of what could only be described as "free falling". It was so cool to look around, but not down as it could easily freak you out if you aren't a fan of that kind of stuff. It was really cool to see the exhibits up close. What I loved is that the exhibits didn't take long to get through but they were both equally as fascinating. There were no crowds so we were able to take our time. The staff on each floor were super nice. And it was just a really cool day to spend an afternoon while exploring the city. Highly recommend checking out whatever exhibit is here while you're in town.

She had great ideas that we never would've come up with if we'd tried to design it ourselves. It took four or five days, and the price was very reasonable. When we picked up the framed piece, they had created a pocket in the back and tucked in some information about the magazine (Harper's) explaining its cultural and historical significance. It was very thoughtful and we really appreciated it. While we were in the gallery for framing, we loved looking around at the paintings. They are striking, lovely, and accessibly priced. We visited during the pandemic (December 2020) and were grateful and at ease because of the common-sense precautions they took. Brenda wore a mask the entire time, without mentioning it. She took care to stand back from us as we looked at the framing materials. She propped open the door for air flow.
