Had a very poor experience with this particular business. For starters, the address for the location has not been updated on google since they moved. Secondly, they do not answer phone calls and you have to wait days just to communicate with them via email. Now for the more serious issues that occurred while I was at this business. Please be aware of the guy who assists at the studio, especially if you are a black woman. I'm not sure what his name is (probably Nick), but reading the other reviews, you can see that he is quite rude and I would like to add VIOLENT. While I was assisting a photographer and her client (two white women) at this studio, Nick entered the room and I could automatically tell that he was giving me a cold shoulder. Like everyone else, I'm just there to do my job, and so I asked Nick if I could assist him with setting up because he was taking his sweet time. He responded, I got it; and then forgot to bring out a couple of the items that we requested MULTIPLE times. He then disappeared when we needed the items. Looking for him, I accidentally opened his office door, and before I could even apologize, he charged at me screaming DON'T COME IN HERE and hit me very roughly/intentionally with the door. I'm not sure what this 40-50 something year old man's problem is, but its very clear to me that he needs to be fired and work on his social/customer service skills. It is also very clear to me that he is racist, or holds some negative thoughts about black people. Again, I felt it the moment I met him and it was clear in the way he treated me versus the white clients. As long as Nick is working at this place, I don't recommend it no matter how affordable it is. It's affordable because of all the things it lacks and you can find better quality places and services elsewhere for just a couple of dollars more. read more

*LONG POST, INDUSTRY PEOPLE PLEASE READ* So.... I was SUPPOSED to have a shoot tomorrow where one of my good friends, and amazing colleague, was set to do my makeup. Finally found an amazing photographer willing to lock a date down not 6 months from now. Why am I not having said shoot, you ask? Well, it's really simple. The studio requires a 1 HOUR DEPOSIT. That's $50, no biggie. Problem is, it turns into a biggie when the website keeps failing the booking (3 times I may add) and keeps holding an additional $50 on your already tight credit card. So, what's a girl to do? Oh yeah, reach out and ask them to make an exception and honor the booking. To which they agreed... A WEEK AGO. Fast forward to the evening before, where I ask to give MORE MONEY so I have a mutual place to meet up and get my makeup done. I'm met instantly with an aggravated tone. I know, I know "you can't read tone in text." But this one you clearly could from start to finish. I was basically told 12 HOURS BEFORE MY BOOKING that if I didn't pay $50 that they couldn't guarantee my space (even though it's still available according to the email). Which leads me to believe that it was booked and this particular person (different from the first email thread) literally cancelled my booking despite being in communication with me 12 hours before the shoot. So I told him to keep his studio and I'll keep my money and post about it online. Here you go, Nicholas. I hope losing me as a client was worth it over a policy that doesn't always need to be applied with such force when YOUR studio's website is not processing a simple deposit. 8.5 years in this industry and all I wanted to do was treat myself to new headshots. I'm glad the photographer who recommended the space was CC'd on the entire thread so he could see how poorly this man handles clients. Everyone will have their own experiences, of course, but in my opinion: STAY FAR AWAY FROM Space4Shoots. Editor add: the owners response is subpar and loosely based on any truth whatsoever. I have screen shots of both your horrible emails and the previous employee I spoke with confirming that I can just pay when I get there. I keep receipts, clearly you don't. Buyer beware. You get what you pay for from Nicholas at Space4shoots. Once they get your deposit, they drop communication and pretend you don't exist unless it's to arrange future rentals. Service with a snarl and thanks for your money. I won't bore you with the details of my complaint here, suffice to say that as a small business owner myself, I value good relations with both my clients and my vendors. I'd never in a million years treat a client, no matter how small and needy, as I was treated today. And believe me, I was on my best behavior. Word to the wise: Studio 1 is the only space they have that's worth paying for. So if you can't get that, pay more for a more legitimate experience elsewhere. They get 2 stars instead of 1 because the price is so good. read more

Cheap rental listing, but disorganized admin. I booked a remote shoot in NY where two of my friends would shoot something for me. The studio rental had been paid in full (my deposit covered the first hour) but they charged my friends for two of three hours in the end because they didn't think I paid for the rest of the time. Also, Nicholas is ultra rude. He doesn't answer any questions about equipment rental and tells me the price listing is "not rocket science". So far they've only partially refunded me two thirds of the cost I paid for the rental, whilst charging the full cost of rental for two hours to the two friends who I hired to do the remote shoot. Affordable space for small studio shoots. However, any price benefits are offset by disorganized process and horrendously rude manager. I have *never* shot here without incident. I finally stopped coming here altogether two years ago, until a confluence of logistical nightmares forced me to book a test shoot here. I arrived and noted to staff how hot it was. She told me the AC in our studio was broken, and we'd have to make do with a fan. Once it was turned on, our hair stylist said the fan was ruining the models' hair. Mentioned it to same staff person and she turned it down, leaving us to sweat out the shoot while breaking periodically to limit the impact of this sweat on our models' wardrobe and makeup. Delayed as we were, we ran over our allotted 8 hours slightly, and we soon heard we were being charged a full hour for the booking. As I asked them to explain how on earth we were being charged a full hour for going 15 minutes over due to their grossly inconvenient cooling solution, the manager (Nicholas, I believe?) responded dismissively for a bit, then eventually barked "I don't have time for this -- you're getting charged for the hour." This was already an exercise in patience, as I tried to stay calm and not make a royal scene, when as I wrangled my equipment to the elevator, he comes over and says "Were you seriously hot though? I mean, you had a white model so I could see how maybe she'd be hot. But you weren't REALLY hot, were you?" It took all my resolve not to react to this. I'm a tall black male in America -- if things got out of hand, I knew who'd be perceived as the aggressor. I pray he pulls that shit on a four-foot white male with nothing to lose. So yeah: Pro: Decently priced if you need small, barebones space. Con: Insufferably rude manager who will test every last ounce of your resolve. read more

The space itself is fine but the management is completely unprofessional. Overcharging us and not even providing the space we were overcharged for And instead giving us an entirely different room That was not in our need. They did not set up materials that we paid for and even got the wrong color background. They didn't notified us of changes until 11PM the evening before for our 10AM Photoshoot. Completely and utterly unprofessional and not worth the headache. I will not be coming back and will tell my photographers not to use the space. read more

The price, affordable. The staff, professional and courteous. They were flexible and worked with me even when I had to reschedule my shoot, they had everything on hand that I needed and requested, so I'm definitely using their services again for the next one. The only criticism I have is they insist on using VibeChat or LiveThere apps to communicate with them in real-time...can you guys switch it up to a WhatsApp, Hangouts, even a FB messenger, it would really help, thanks again. read more

Rented out a studio here for the first time to practice indoor photography, and luckily the person who was at the front counter was the best I've ever met. Reginald made me felt like I was at home, he taught me about proper lighting. He set up the backdrops and set up all the lighting. BUYER BEWARE - My second interaction with Nicolas was just as big of a nightmare as the first and I will be filing a BBB complaint. Why? because of my previous Yelp review. Here's the email I just got...(To note, It's funny he says he took the high road. How big of him...Also of note, you can book any studio in the same area for the same price but with no racism so I guess it's not such a value.) Lauren, While reviewing upcoming shoots, I came across your Friday booking which a staff member unknowingly accepted. Wow that's some chutzpah of you. Yes, I did say a year ago "(your company) is welcome to book and shoot at Space-4-Shoots if (your Chinese intern) is not present at the shoot", but that was before your dishonest, vengeful, and vindictive post aiming to hurt our business while posing as a Yelp review pretending to help others. I took the high road at the time and didn't reply to it, but for you to expect that you can shoot at the studio again is mind boggling (even though it proves that you well know that Space-4-Shoots is the best value in town, contrary to the blatant lies you perpetrated on Yelp and to your "Facebook group of nyc-based fashion companies"). NEVER ever rent a space for a photo shoot here. The Police was called in. During the argument Nicholas took the photographer's cell phone and would not give it back because he wanted more money and tried to grab is bag. I was standing outside while the argument was going on and the UPS driver said must be another fight. At least 10 fights in the least 7 years the UPS driver witness and the police was called in. The owner has had many fights with clients for trying to over charge after you book the space on line and he wants additional money. The space is not set up when you book the time which costs you delays with your photo shoot. One example is the old foam core he has had for years which he tried to get additional $75.00 saying you took it apart and I am going to charge you. Had to go down the street and buy tape to tape it back up so we would not be charged the $75.00. He says a steamer is provided for the clothes which takes more than an hour to heat up. Before you're booking they ask what will you need for the studio and these items should be in the room on the day of the booking. Nothing is set up when you book the studio so you can start working. An itemized bill for additional charges is never given to you so you can see what else he is trying to charge you for. Only a calculation off his phone and then he lets you know what else you owe. Nicholas is not interested in repeat business or developing clients who can use the studio space. read more

horrible!! in order to contact them you have to download an app when I downloaded the app I was constantly calling and got no answer and was told not to leave a voicemail . finally after like 5 tries I got a someone on the phone a guy with no name and was so rude , I sent out an email 2 hours before trying to call and got back no response wanted to change my booking date for another date which was available but he refused to help and he told me I wasn't getting my money back , telling me about a cancelation policy which I was in the time frame for at least 25% back, he telling me I see an email about 2 hours ago , yet I haven't gotten a respond to that email .. he was arguing back with me POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE I will never use this space again . you can keep my 40 dollars . but you will not have my service I am a professional photography and will not get treated this way if they had a normal direct line things could of been handle differently . read more

Nicholas is very rude. What a horrible studio. You never actually have your own studio, it's just a 1 room divided by clothing racks that you share with others. Plus, if you pay by credit card, he adds a 3% processing fee. I will definately not recommend this place to anyone read more

I was very reluctant about coming here because of the reviews BUT I'm so happy I did. The space was perfect ! Reginald assisted us when we got there and he was beyond helpful ! This guys needs a raise. He even helped me fix settings on my own equipment. He was kind, patient and even let us stay an extra hour past our reserved time. I'll definitely be back. ? read more
