I spent a lot of time researching spas in Metro Detroit to treat myself for my birthday, and I'm so glad I landed on Spa Mariana. The Birthday Bliss package ($405) was absolutely worth every penny -- so much so that I plan to make it a yearly tradition. They were kind enough to accommodate a last-minute schedule change for me, which I really appreciated. The amenities alone -- the sauna, the shower, and just the peaceful vibe of the basement area -- felt like a gift in itself. Nagam did an incredible job with my facial -- it's been a week and my skin has never looked better; most of my acne is completely gone. Janelle handled my 90-minute massage with the perfect amount of pressure, and I loved the addition of the jade body scrub/hot stones. A couple notes for improvement: * Please consider offering plus-size robes. I'm about 250 lbs and the robe juuuuust barely fit -- more size-inclusive options would make a world of difference. * I understand the need to clean and reset rooms, but it did feel a little rushed. While I was told I didn't need to hurry to finish my dessert and champagne before my facial, I came back to find both had been cleared away. On top of that, I was given a $50 spa certificate (which I tucked with my lashes) -- but after my massage, both the certificate and my lashes were gone. It left things feeling a bit rushed and unfinished. Despite that, my experience was truly a 10/10. Highly recommend this place! We went for my best friend's birthday and they put us in a private basement where we could chill, bring food, and just relax. The staff came down and introduced us and also the owner, who was really cool, took a ton of pictures for us! My massage was relaxing. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I hate when massage places shortchange you on your time. I always put on my own timer from the start of my massage and it's never the 60 mins I pay for. My lady stepped outside of the room and was gone for like 5-7 minutes and that cut into my massage time, so my massage was truly 45 mins overall and not 60, so I was a little annoyed by that. This is definitely a first class spa and it was a wonderful experience. My friend had gotten a spa package for me for a Christmas present and this was our first chance to use it with the pandemic going on. The location is a bit deceiving when you first pull into the parking lot. It is near the train tracks and in a strip mall that is pretty boring on the outside. Once you walk into the salon the experience is totally different! What a beautiful salon and it smells wonderful! Aaron was my masseuse and I could tell immediately that he knew what he was doing. It was very relaxing and therapeutic at the same time. Normally I like the deep tissue massages but he said the package my friend bought me included a medium to light pressure massage. I did have issues with my shoulders so he said he would apply more pressure in that area and it did feel wonderful. The staff is very friendly and on our way out the woman at the desk gave us a complete tour of the facility - which includes a basement with couches for relaxing with friends. Its a wonderful facility and I would highly recommend it. I can't wait to go back and try out some of their other services. read more

If i could give 3.5 stars, i would. Husband and I had 2 treatments each on a weekday. He said the massage was just OK (90 minutes and the masseuse didnt touch the feet or neck?), but absolutely LOVED his facial. I had a citrus body scrub which was very pleasant, and a facial, which I'm not sure about. I said I have dry skin, and its very obvious I have almost no places that need "extraction". But she tried On my forehead. Since i don't have anything there, it hurt. A lot. Like she was looking for sonething to clear out, but there was nothing! It was poke poke poke...That was only a few min and the rest of the facial was nice, but i was put off by that. The biggest issue i have is their building and location. They are in a tiny strip mall right by the railroad. Yep, we both heard the train during our service. The entire space is *really* small. The waiting "lounge" is just 2 chaise loungers with a table in between, and a curtain separating you from the hallway. Everything is very dark, too. And the ceiling is this open rafter /warehouse type ceiling which might be good for a hipster restaurant, but felt unfinished in a spa. Ive been to a lot of spas and worked as a masseuse at one myself. This place is mucho expensive. I expected a much nicer facility for the price. The staff was more than friendly, and graciously offered us champagne while we waited. I really liked them and their customer service, but for what we paid, I just expected a much more lavish time. read more

The "Spa Mariana Beyond Relaxation Retreat" was 5 hours (not 4. FIVE) of absolute bliss. When I say I lost count of how many fragrant layers of glaze a team of absolute angels tirelessly massaged into my skin, I am not exaggerating. At least 6 different moisturizers were on my feet alone. Every treatment is a series of massages. The experience put me in a trance of relaxation. I'm glad I didn't actually fall asleep, as I would have missed something. The only thing that felt awkward was trying to finish the tray of charcuterie alone in a cold basement for a while for lunch, wishing I had a robe to throw on or something. I wonder if I had it on a tray with me for snacking at the various treatment rooms would have worked better instead. And maybe with a tea kettle for refilling. Anyway, go at your own risk. Your brain will get rewired, and you'll want to get megaglazed again. I don't know how I can go back to the middle class life having felt this level of luxury. read more

If you read the reviews on here, majority of them rave about the massage service they received, because indeed, the therapists are very good. My therapist was thorough, kind, and knew what she was doing. However, if you look at most of the negative reviews on here, you will see Jennifer's name on them. She is the front desk manager who also happens to be in a relationship with the owner. Hence, she can treat you, her paying guests, any way she wants. And that leaves me to the negative side. Jennifer honestly needs training on providing service to customers who are upset. Case in point, all three of my friends received a text notifying us of our appointment and who would be doing our service. One of my friends saw that she was assigned to a male therapist. The rest of us all had females. Being uncomfortable with this, she called, changed the type of massage she had originally wanted, and changed the therapist to a woman. Unfortunately, due to some glitch or error in the system, they ended up scheduling the male masseuse with our other friend who originally had a female masseuse. When my friend told Jennifer that she was scheduled with a female, rather than take the time to make things right, she was adamant on proving herself and her business to be right. Rather than handle this situation in a professional manner, Jennifer did/said the following: 1) "What do you want me to do?" She went on further to state that she couldn't magically change the masseuse into a female. That is no way to speak to someone who is visibly upset about the whole situation. It only made things worse. 2) "This isn't our first rodeo". Rather than acknowledge an error was made, apologize for what happened, and provide some type of compensation for the inconvenience, she made excuses. At first, she didn't think my friend had the female therapist to begin with. Believe your customer. Then, my friend had to demand for the compensation-- not her. In fact, not once did she apologize until all three of us came out there and told her to. 3) "I'm good." My friend was honestly upset and angry-- not because of the mishap as things happen-- but because of how inconsiderate Jennifer was in handling the situation. She kept on saying, "I'm good" and "We resolved this already" when the three of us came to her to find out what went wrong. But just because you're good, doesn't mean the customer who ended up not getting the service she expected is. Furthermore, saying that you're good is irrelevant because you are not the paying customer. It's not about you. And I think that is the most important thing I wish you could understand. It was never about you. It was about a customer who was upset for something that wasn't her fault at all. I am certain that this review will go to deaf ears, because as mentioned, she is in a relationship with the owner. But this is more so for any potential customers. Be wary of their booking system and call and confirm everything. Jennifer, I was kind to you when confronting the situation as I felt horrible about seeing my friend upset. I just think you could have avoided so much of what happened had you been apologetic from the get go. Thank you for your time. read more

This is one of the best spas I have had the pleasure of visiting. Located near downtown Birmingham, across Woodward with plenty of parking. The spa is on the second floor, just follow the smell of peppermint, until you reach the refreshing scent of orange at the top of the stairs. I was immediately greeted and escorted to a very spacious waiting room. They offered me tea or flavored water. The green tea was very refreshing and relaxing. Soon, I was greeted by my esthetician, Dorota. She was very warm and friendly. She escorted me to my room where a tall glass of orange water and a heated massage table was waiting for me. The classic European facial treatment was AMAZING. This facial consisted of a cleanse, exfoliation, extraction, steam, and massage. The products she used were all natural and well fitted to my skin type. In the end she gave me some tips and product info but I did not feel it was a sales pitch. I told him that I was ok with a masseuse or masseur. I'm not shy. The spa is located in a strip mall in Birmingham, and at first, I wasn't super impressed. But walking in, it felt warm and welcoming. I was greeted and then my masseur, Issac, came to greet me. I was so surprised when he opened the door to the hallway. This place was much bigger than the outside looks! He took me to a room and I explained this was my first massage. He was so sweet and explained everything. I knew exactly what to expect. The room was cozy and relaxing. The music and lighting were soothing. He stepped out while I undressed and slipped under the covers. The bed was heated and I instantly felt relaxed. He politely knocked and came back in. He was gentle, yet worked some knots our. The signature massage includes a massage, a hot towel treatment, hot stone massage, lavender scalp massage, and a peppermint foot treatment. The couple's/BFF package comes with champagne and chocolate. This was all fantastic. The scalp massage was my favorite. I will warn you though. I walked out looking like I just had some amazing sex. Haha. My hair was a wreck. Issac was extremely professional and kept me covered at all times. The receptionist was amazing. I normally don't write reviews, but I have to sing the praises about a massage I got about a week ago. I had Jenn and she was incredible! She went above and beyond. I walked in with some serious tension in my neck and a fully throbbing migraine and Jenn took such a tailored approach to my treatment that she rid me of my migraine, worked out the million kinks in my neck, and even taught me stretches to do throughout the week to prevent running into the same issues again. A week later and I'm here to say that advice has already made a difference. Definitely the best massage I've ever had. I will most certainly be back when I'm back in down. This spa is a great place to come if you want to treat yourself! I love the spa infused water here and how they treat you like you are first class. :) it is a bit pricey here hence why I don't come here all the time, but I highly recommend getting a massage done (I have gone to Kasia and Gosia who have been here for awhile and they are my absolute favorites and highly recommend them, I had Nicolle today and she was decent also) or a body treatment! I really enjoyed the Swedish massage with a foot scrub. The main suggestion I have for this spa is to have more promotions/specials available and maybe offer more combos for massage or body treatment and or facial (bundle 2 services) for savings as opposed to a longer "spa day" for 4-6 hours. They did remind me when confirming my appointment that gratuity is only accepted via cash or Venmo which I understand but it would be easier if you could just use your card. Just a minor complaint as other spas in the area will let you do all that on a card. I do enjoy the ambient music they play but the walls are a bit thin and I could occasionally hear people talking or laughing which was a bit annoying as I was trying to relax during my massage.
