I enjoyed the Mountain Side Expedition 90min massage today and it was glorious. The front desk was very nice and pleasant prior to the massage. Megan (sorry if I spelt wrong) was my masseuse, she explained everything that I would be expecting as well as what oils she would be using, letting me pick the main scent. Being in the service industry you could tell she really cared about her job and the energy she put into the massage. I absolutely loved it. One of the best massages I've ever had. My massage today with Carrie, had to be one of my top massages. She added lomi lomi to traditional Swedish and the result was astounding! This spa is in a location that cannot be duplicated. The scenery alone is worth the drive from Truckee. The only area that was the least bit dicey was the walk outside of the resort to access the spa, other than that my visit exceeded my expectations. I was visiting from San Diego where I have facials and massages regularly. Kathy was my esthetician and she was very friendly and professional. I arrived early and spent some time in the Sanctuary room. They provided cold water, tea, fruit and nuts. The lounge chairs/ottomans were very comfortable. The facial itself was the best I've ever had. Kathy was attentive and asked just the right questions before she began the signature organic facial. This service was pricey but worth every penny. I left feeling completely rejuvenated. I will go out of my way to come back to this spa. read more

Buyer beware. I was really looking forward to this spa and left completely disappointed. The spa itself is very hotel-like (not a relaxing atmosphere) and the staff run you through like cattle. Since this is in a large resort, they don't have to work as hard to attract customers - and they make that a little too obvious. You will be paying a premium to be sat in a room with many other customers - staring at wax fruit and with only two drink options (water/basic teas). My friends and I scheduled a spa day for our group of four and I also scheduled a separate spa day for myself later that weekend -- totaling about $1000. Our appointment was at 1:00 and we arrived at 1:04. There were lines at the lobby desks, so we just followed the signs directing us to the spa. Seemed logical. However, several of the signs led us to nowhere. On two separate occasions, we asked hotel employees to direct us to the spa - and then we finally learned that the spa is located outside the back of the hotel, near the pool, underground. It is tucked away in a hidden spot, so we spent over ten minutes on a complete scavenger hunt. When we finally checked in, the spa attendant pointed us to the gym-style locker rooms to change and told us to go relax in the tranquility room until our massage therapists came to retrieve us. There seemed to be no rush, but we changed quickly anyways. So, imagine our surprise when we entered the "tranquility room" and were informed us that our 50 minute massages were being cut to 25 minutes because "we were late." We were in the massage rooms by 1:25. Two of the therapists chose to only do 25 minute massages because "they had other customers booked after us at 2:00." So, even though they could've squeezed at least 30-35 minutes in (as it does not take that long to turn over a massage room), they instead chose to cut the massages even shorter to 25 minutes. Then, they expected us to pay full price. To make matters worse, one of the "busy" 25-minute masseuses was continually stopping, opening the door, and leaving the room. It was almost comical. While I understand the need to respect a schedule, the spa should plan more cushion time for issues such as this. It is unrealistic to think that a spa (or any business) never runs into any hiccups. However, this place clearly overbooks customers in an attempt to maximize profits. For example, when we entered the "tranquility room" before and after our massages - ALL of the chairs were full. It was not tranquil, but awkward. I spoke with the manager, who offered 20% off. So, I still ended up paying full price -- they just basically eliminated the 18% tip. At this point, I cancelled my next appointment. Overall, this hotel and spa experience was a hot mess. The amenities are average, at best. Customer service/experience was nonexistent. Out of all four of our massages, only one member of our group was happy with her massage. read more

Visiting the Resort for our 25th wedding anniversary. Spent our honeymoon here. Had 50 minute couples massage that was the BEST ONE EVERRRR!!! Shelly and Becca were awesome. We had a deep tissue massage and every part of it was WONDERFUL. They each made us feel completely relaxed and worked on our sore ski muscles. Loved the time before and after in the relaxation room. Norma Jean is AMAZING. Everyone else... meh. Not a fan of the front desk staff, who seems to think they are going out of their way to do their job and that you, the guest, are an inconvenience to them. I've been every year for four years in a row and have never been impressed. Or actually, to be honest, I never really been treated with a great deal of service, respect or attention to detail. My therapist today was rushed and moving really fast, to the point where I couldn't relax. He flopped the heated blanket on my back and was generally just not graceful or quiet at all in the room, or with my body. My massage was just, okay, not worth $130. More like a Massage Envy groupon special $50 deal. Bummer. Next year- I'm just going to try a different spa. read more

Carrie gave and excellent service. Friendly and professional. I chose the lavender scrub treatment which was 25 min scrub (very invigorating!) and 25 min lavender oil massage (very relaxing). Carrie was responsive to pressure request for firmness and addressed areas i requested. The spa itself is gorgeous. It is huge and very confusing so leave extra time to get around because the staff are terrible at giving directions. The hot tubs have super powerful jets and the pool was very warm despite the 25 degree weather and 10+foot snow drifts. The spa area was clean and for the reviewer that left pics of trash- well they could have thrown away their own mess like an adult because there are trash cans there. The girls were constantly in there refilling cups/ towels/robes. No complaints. Great place to visit and I look forward to coming back read more

I felt surprised to see some of the negative reviews for the Spa. It is priced at the higher end for massage and other services, which reflects the facility. The spa is very clean and luxurious. You can relax with a piece of fruit and trail mix in the lounge, take a steam bath or sauna, and have a shower with fluffy towels, robes, and all soaps and toiletries provided. I personally have had almost entirely good experiences with the services here. I have had massages with several of the therapists and almost always got the pressure and the room/table temperature that I wanted. I find the space to be nicely designed and relaxing and perfect for using massage for deep transformation. Yes, I can get a massage more cheaply in Truckee, but not with this kind of ambiance and amenities. So it really depends what you are looking for ... I would say I think the gratuities should be at the discretion of the customer and reflect the quality of the service rather than the mandatory 18%. I can only imagine though having worked as a waitress at one time in my life what experiences led to the creation of the mandatory gratuity policy ... One other note: I sought some help recently from customer service since I am a regular customer. The spa director wrote me a personal and prompt response via email, and she was very helpful. read more

This Spa was horrible.. Please see letter that I sent to the Manager: Good Evening Heather, I was in the Spa at Squaw this weekend and I felt I needed to bring a few concerns to your attention. Upon check in, my name was spelled wrong and when corrected- was STILL NOT CHANGED.. Also, do your employees not wear uniforms... seemed as if your Concierge was wearing jeans and UGGS and your Attendants were in black, skinny jeans. My first concern was of the men's locker area- there was not 1 sign of a male attendant during my visit. The towel bin was overflowing and the clock (as soon as you enter the male side) was on the ground. I felt that the vanity area was NOT appropriate for a Spa of that kind. I had to look in the drawers (in the counter behind vanity) to find a comb, in which there was no proper disinfectant for it nor were there any instructions on how to recycle it, keep it, or dispose of it. The sanctuary could be described as "mediocre"....there was no bottled waters, what are those supposed to do who may be allergic to the infused water? Also, can your staff remove the stickers on the fruit? I also felt is completely inappropriate that a guest entered the are and asked if everyone, LOUDLY, could check their key as her key went missing. Then, 15 seconds later, a gal in a teal colored shirt (employee) came in and asked the same thing. I feel your employees should take the lead when having to enter a relaxation area and disrupt the tranquility of guests rather than a FRANTIC guest doing so. Upon talk of other guests, it was believed that the Spa Front Desk DID NOT have a copy of this guest's key number... which is 1) a piece of horrible information that a guest should never know and 2) a terrible experience for a guest to have to go through, especially at a Spa that is in a resort of your kind. In fact, my friend stated that she had to ask the Front Desk for assistance several times as her key would not open the lockers. The explanation she received was "Yeah, sometimes they don't want to open, we are working on that." When guests are paying that amount of money per service, there should be a seamless for such matters or at least a more professional reason. I do not feel guests should have to remove their slippers prior to entering the room, I would prefer you had tassels to avoid this matter. I felt completely dirty after stepping onto the cold floor in the treatment room. There was NO mat on the floor to put my mind at ease. Think about it: what if the guest before me had an open wound, a foot issue/ condition, or worse- FUNGUS! Also, I do not know where my technician's shoes have been prior to my walking on the floor. What if they stepped in their pets "mess" and then came to work... This definitely needs to be changed. I have attached photos for you to reference. This is how the Sanctuary looked after my service. It was picked over, dirty, and JUST PLAIN UNACCEPTABLE! If you look in the photo with the green apple in the cup, this was my "mess" that was still present AFTER I was in service for over 1 hour. I did not see 1 employee enter the area during my time in the Sanctuary and I was in there for nearly 1 hour prior to my service. I went into the retail area shortly after this and found employees just chatting away. NOT one of them asked if I needed assistance or asked any questions to me. I also felt as if I didn't want to ask any questions nor buy anything as I would be disrupting them. Also, there were 2 HUGE LEAKS in the retail area ceiling... this was disgusting! 1 had a trash bin underneath it and the other, which was near the Tara and water bottles, had nothing an was just leaking away. Prior to me leaving the Spa, I waited for my girlfriend on the bench (in the hall) behind the Fitness Center, numbers employees, including a gal in all black (maybe this was you) passed me and did not acknowledge me at all. A simple "hello, everything okay, you waiting for a friend, would you like me to check on them for you" would have been nice.. or even "Checking out already, how was everything?" Instead they walked by as if they were angry to be at work. When my girlfriend exited the Ladies Locker Room- a slim, Hispanic male which black wavy hair was walking by. I said "goodbye" to him and he did NOT acknowledge my words nor did he look at me... again- a Spa of your kind should greet every guest. If you are a 4 diamond property- your Spa should also practice these manners. All in all I would say I have received better service from similar Spas. I feel you really need to crack down on your team with the small details... starting wth customer service. read more

I had an amazing deep tissue massage at the spa this weekend. My therapist's name was John Weedn - I highly recommend him if you are interested in getting a deep tissue massage. I told John about my problem areas and he did a great job of focusing on them without compromising the rest of the massage. Although it was an intense deep tissue massage, I still felt totally relaxed afterwards. He was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and all in all, made it a great experience. I did not use the facilities (sauna, steam room, gym) outside of the general area of the women's locker room and showers, which were in a good state. Unlike some of the other recent reviews, I thought everyone at the spa was friendly and it felt tidy to me. The prices are definitely a little high but my massage was so good that I felt it was worth it. Unfortunately my boyfriend's was not quite as good as mine, so it sounds like John is an exception. The Spa at the Resort at Spa Creek is a perfect place to unwind after a day on the snow. I enjoyed a 50 minute massage. Jake was really great at finding my tight spots and treating them. The prices are very much on the high side and then they ad an 18% gratuity to your bill. I have enjoyed the same great massage and relaxation and a much more reasonable prices. read more

I've attempted numerous times to book the Tranquility Room for an upcoming baby shower. I've called twice and each time was told a manager would call me back in an hour or so and I never received a call back. I sent an email that went completely ignored. I'm not sure why I haven't received responses when all I'm trying to do is book services but I suggest you don't give them the time of day as they don't really care to give potential guests the time of day. read more

Worst message i've ever received. Asked for foot message and the girl knuckled my foot for 10 min in the middle of the foot and did not touch the heels or the rest of the foot except to pull and push on my foot. Then paid for a shoulder and neck message and she proceeded to elbow me in these weird repetitive motions throughout my back. Not sure where these people get their training but last time I checked a foot message should cover the whole foot. That includes the heels and upper foot to toes. Asked her not to only use her elbows but rather her hands to give me a neck massage, don't think the girl knew how to do anything else. For the price they charge they should hire a real masseuse. read more

I would rate this spa as minus one star. It was very expensive for the services offered. I scheduled a 50 minute massage deep tissue and added a hand and foot massage for 25 minutes more. The massage therapist was Megan and she barely put enough pressure to consider it a deep tissue and when it was over I had to ask "what about the hand and foot massage?" She said it was already finished. I paid an extra $100 for nothing. I didn't feel any relief on my hands or feet or my shoulders. When she started she asked where I needed her to focus so I told her my shoulders but she spent more time on my scalp and face than my shoulders. Ugh I'm so disappointed read more

Weird pressure point touching on my face, absolutely no attention paid to my neck where I said I wanted focus and no long strokes, little circles. 10 min in to this 75 minute disaster I wanted to run out! I recently went to this spa with 6 girls for a bachelorette party. We all booked massages for 50 minutes at 135 dollars + 18% gratuity which seemed way expensive, but it did include the sauna and steam area too. Personally my massage was super mediocre, not very firm, and the back warmer was burning my skin so I asked to have it removed. All in all an average experience for a lot of money. I thought that I was alone in this, but out of 6 of us, there were 4 that all thought the same--very ok massages and temperature problems overall, with hot stones that burned my friend's back and hot towels that burned my friend's foot (it was red afterwards). All for 50 minutes which flew by pretty quickly. The hot tub and pool outside were full of beer-drinking families with plastic cups and babies that they were dipping in the hot tub while enjoying their drinks. And the waiting room inside the sauna was packed. We had to stand around in a co-ed room with robes on waiting to be called. I would not recommend this place. There are plenty of massage therapists in Tahoe City that get good reviews and cost a lot less. read more

I had a few hours to burn at the resort but couldn't get a last minute massage appointment, so I decided to loaf around the spa for a few hours. The girl working the front desk wasn't especially friendly or polite but I figured she just didn't appreciate me entering the spa without buying something ( but hey I'm a guest and there's a resort fee for that. ) The spa accommodations aren't super plush but they are nice enough. Nice sauna and steam rooms, a few showers with basic products. Since I wasn't having a treatment, I wasn't provided sandals which was unhygienic. Relaxation room is down the hall and past the gym, which is kind of a weird setup for a spa. For the basic spa setup, the spa menu seemed really pricy, but it looks like if you book your spa treatment when you book your stay you can get a deal ( see specials on website). So overall, it's no four seasons, but better than a massage envy chain spa. read more

It was pricey, which I dont mind paying for if it's worth the price. This is above the price for an adverage massage. Its still a good way to enjoy youself. read more

Norma Jean was very nice, and did a pretty good job. I was thankful for minimal conversation during my massage. Sahra was my husbands massage therapist and he was not very impressed. It was a sports massage but he said he got very minimal massage and she performed much more stretching on him and spent a lot of time talking to him about stretches he should be doing. He says it felt nice but it didn't feel like a massage and it wasn't very relaxing. Very expensive to not come out feeling amazing! read more

The worst deep tissue massage ever! I have been moving and decided a good deep tisue massage was the perfect solution on this Sunday afternoon. The spa is nice, no complaints and the team that works here are friendly. Unfortuantely the 75 minute massage was barely a Swedish massage. My back is full of knots, and still is.... The massage buy Jessica or Jessie was frustrating and anoying! Overall it was a disaster. The steam and shower were far more beneficial than this massage. It was a waste of time and money! I will never go back! I told the woamn who checked me out and she offered a 20% discount, not authorized evidently to offer it for free and needed to talk to her supervisor, who should call me. Well hours later I have not received a phone call and probably never will, whihc is actually fine becasue why talk about it? If you care about customers, let alone a local resident then you make amends on the spot! Customer service is really not challenging it just rarely exists today. The other interesting events that I thought unusal was that outside the Santuary, workers were making tremendous noise with a large truck blocking any view. The spa was faily busy, so what is this poor planning or no common sense. People do not go to the spa to listen to loud exterior work being done! It was an expensive, lousy experience. I am not sure how they got such positive ratings in Conde Nast, but this is not a top US spa by any measure. It is nice, clean but old and a bit tired. read more

5 stars for the actual massage itself. Jenny was amazing, professional, and the deep tissue massage she gave me was exactly what I needed...However.... We called a week ahead of time to schedule massages for our anniversary. I was asked to spell out our name, give a preference for the gender of the massage therapist, etc....When we arrived they got my boyfriend's name wrong and the front desk did not relay the message the therapist. We went and got our robes on in a very nice locker room. They were comfortable, clean, and had everything you could need. We then waited in the "sanctuary" for our massage therapists. The room had comfortable chairs and couches, fruit, tea, water, magazines, and snacks. When our massage therapist came out they did not have the correct name for my boyfriend...again (fault of front desk). The massage...quiet and dark rooms with peaceful music. Deep tissue massage by Jenny was amazing. The scents were all great and overbearing. I got the 25 min hand and foot ad on which was also great. She incorporated it into the massage so in reality it just seemed like a 70 minute full body massage. I have no qualms with the massage itself and feel like these massage therapists definitely deserve 5 stars. My boyfriend was also really happy with his massage and had no complaints. However here is where I have the issue - front desk gets 1 star...maybe 2. After getting our names wrong (no biggie but should have been rectified to maintain the professionalism and high end scale of the resort as a whole) we exited our massages and went into the lobby to ask where the pool was. The two girls in the front were speaking to one another, glanced over their shoulders to see who was coming out and then continued talking. We had to excuse ourselves to ask the question...kind of weird behavior. Then after a few hours at the pool we came back in to pay. I specifically asked when I called the week before and was told the massage was $150 +$25 for the hand and foot add on and 18% gratuity will be added. When we paid she told us the massages were $177 and then $25 for the add on. However, she later clarified that $177 was the massage with the gratuity already added on. She kept quoting the massage with gratuity and then without...it was just confusing. The website said $150 so you should tell people the price is $150. She was just rude about it, not clarifying at all, and it was just a weird and uncomfortable conversation to have. The $27 difference was not a big deal it was merely the fact that it seemed as if the website and what she was charging (and had originally quoted us) were not matching up. The space is beautifully designed, comfortable, clean, and inviting. The massage therapists were professional, talented, and I would definitely recommend Jenny to anyone! However, hire competent front desk people who can help add to the experience and not take away from it. It would be nice to see people who act as if they care about their position and want to help ensure a positive experience. read more

Appalled by the absolute terrible scene I encountered here. I went in the spa to book appointments and the woman (early twenties maybe), Maria was her name I believe (brown hair). Please, this woman should not be working in customer service and definitely not at a spa that is supposed to be considered high end. She was rude, not professional at all and just purely unpleasant (and not just to me, she was on the phone, giving extremely short answers while rolling eyes and a woman and her daughter entered and my mouth dropped by the way these guests at this resort were treated and in front of other guests and potential customers). I'm in the process of not only filing a complaint with the manager of the spa, whom was wearing snow pants....I understand this is Tahoe but this is also a luxury resort and spa, sure maybe that's acceptable at the bar...but a spa? unprofessional, but with the hotel about my experience and concerns. I ended up getting pricing and leaving without booking because I couldn't stand in a room with that girl at the front desk (Maria I believe) a minute longer. Worst service I encountered my entire visit and worst ever at a spa. My travel companion, both of us stayed at this resort, ended up booking a facial on their own. I opted out, because of the front of the spa was that disgusting and had zero lack of professionalism I didn't want to risk what the sessions would be like. Anyways, she had a facial with a blonde woman (Gyna, or Jeanna forgive me I don't know the spelling of her name) but they couldn't have said more positive things. In fact, she said it was the best facial she's ever had and that this aesthetician was wonderful and knowledgeable and she received the kind of service expected when paying top dollar. She said she received the best customer service from this aesthtician compared to anyone at the resort. So thank you. I wish I could leave a review just based off of her as she made my friend's entire day, but unfortunately the rest of the experience of this spa was not up to par. read more

I didn't like this place. Starting with the staff using excuses of being overbooked they won't give you a locker saying its all taken by clients who ordered massage. 50 lockers for massage clients when only 2-3 can be done at the same time? What a joke! Gym is cramped, all equipment is outdated. I liked steam room but sauna was too cold. Overall not very pleasant experience. I had the most incredible spa experience here today. I got the Moroccan Buff and scalp treatment, and it was worth every penny. My skin feels great, and I am super relaxed. Amy was wonderful! Very professional and facilities were clean. Front office staff was friendly, including resort staff. They validate your valet parking by the way, which is a nice plus when coming from off-site locations. Highly recommend and I'll definitely be back. read more

I went with 4 others on May 26th. Three had massages only and two had massages and facials. The massage therapists were fine but that's where the good news stops. First, when dropping off the car at the valet parking station the valet, apparently, did not believe we were going to the spa, evidenced by a note under the windshield wiper afterward that said we should be charged for parking. One in our group was a minute or two late for her massage appointment because she was nursing her baby and they were going to cancel her appointment but grudgingly relented after much protest. At the spa hotel guests were given preference over non-guests although non-guests paid the same as hotel guests. Pool privileges came with the spa treatment but we were given the third degree when we got to the pool and were questioned about our right to enter even when we were holding keys to the spa lockers. Quite the Gestapo routine. Not to mention that the bartender was snotty when asked to provide details of our drink tab. Whoever manages this place needs a crash course in customer service, as does his/her subordinates. It may benefit future customers but not us because we five will never go there again. For a few bucks more we'll go to the Ritz at Northstar and I know for sure that the service there will be excellent. read more
