Happy healthy kid got injured internally and physically. BEWARE of this camp and of the slick presentation of it. It has only been in operation for one or two seasons. The guy who took it over, Carl Acosta, will promise you more than he can deliver. He comes off very competent and together. We made the mistake of trusting him. The camp facilities are terrible - run down and in my opinion even hazardous. The lake is very far from the camp and you have to walk under a tunnel or over a road. But that is not the worst of it. The kids were not happy - and my kids are happy and have never had an issue in any context (knock on wood). I was assured there would be kids my son's age. But instead he was placed in a group where everyone but one kid was a year older. He was excluded and even physically bullied. And he has NEVER been bullied or had social issues. He was physically grabbed by a counselor and felt unsafe. He indicated this to me in his letters, but the letters were not delivered promptly as was promised. So we didnt realize he was in an unsafe environment until a week went by. The owner never mentioned this incident or another incident where kids pushed my son into a mirror so hard that it broke the mirror. The director was aware and didnt tell me. The poor kid even got a concussion on the basketball court. It is like the staff is asleep at the wheel. I know it is easy when reading this to imagine a troubled or socially awkward kid and parents who want to blame the environment for the kids social troubles. Please know that is not the case. Our kid is hugely popular, a star athlete etc. He has only had great experiences in school, sports etc. He went to camp filled with enthusiasm, excited to get the basketball and soccer coaching Carl Acosta assured me he would get. By the end of the two week session, my son said he didnt want to play basketball any more - and didnt want to go to sleep away camp again. For this price point you can find a much nicer camp that is much better managed. Dont risk your kids summer on this place. read more
