I was told the doctor would not see my child since I had a vaccine exemption for my child (my child was vaccine injured and doctor was told). This is because, we now know, the doctors are all paid more if they have 100% compliance for vaccinations for all their patients. Recently at a congressional hearing we found out that pediatricians are being paid by the HMO insurance companies for vaccinating kids. Payment is $200-$600 per child. Many pediatricians making $1 million a year just for vaccinating kids. Practices must keep a certain percentage of patients at 100% vaccination rate to qualify for the payments. Pediatricians stop seeing kids as patients whose parents refuse vaccinations. This is not about health. It's about doctors and insurance companies making millions and billions per year each. It was crushing. My child's former pediatrician who assisted with the getting the exemption due to what he termed 'adverse reaction' and the exemption was granted, retired and moved out of state. He even called them but they would not honor his calling to talk to the new prospective doctor. They are monsters there. read more

When we were expecting our first, so many friends recommended Southwest Pediatrics to us! We went for a meet and greet with Dr. Shilpa and really felt comfortable with her. We also got great recommendations about their other doctors, too. I like that Dr. Shilpa is relatable (she seems to be around our age with a young kiddo as well) and she takes time to answer all of my questions (I come almost every time with a list of questions on my phone). She is patient in sharing her expertise and has a kind way of interacting with my child. Now after the birth of our second baby, Dr. Shilpa sees both kiddos. I like that the exchange is very accessible and easy to use. We've called many times during off hours to reach a nurse from Children's hospital. They'll either answer our questions immediately or they'll contact the on call pediatrician and then call us back. It's pretty straightforward to schedule a sick visit the same day, though if you call right at 8:30 when their phone lines open, you might have to wait on hold for a few minutes. The nurses and other staff are usually very pleasant and helpful. I highly recommend Southwest Pediatrics and especially Dr. Shilpa to anyone looking for a pediatrician in south city! read more

Previously we have always had a decent experience with southwest Pediatrics but today i had the appointment from hell. My daughter snd son (1 yr old) had appts at 10:15 and it was 11:15 and we were still waiting to see the dr. They have removed all the toys, i am trying to entertain my two kids for over an hour in a bare room i resorted to letting them shred the table paper. It was just a well visit, i would have seen a PA. i work full time and was going to be late for a meeting!! They just showed zero respect for my rime and I'm considering switching now. Sad because this has never happened to me at this office before. The nurses are extremely nice. An hour plus is not acceptable wait times. Why take appts at all?! read more

SW Pediatrics is located a block from Chippewa in St. Louis Hills. I have been bringing my children there since they were babies. They have several doctors, and a nurse practitioner on staff and I respect all of them. They are really organized and efficient. I wouldn't take my family anywhere else! Even though my children have seen Dr. Schmidt and then Dr. Spewak for 16 years, I continue to be impressed by the new generation of docs and staff at this office. My son recently hurt his hand playing football at recess; the NP saw us within the hour, splinted his hand with a metal brace and called ahead to Watson imaging, which we went straight to. The office called by the end of the day with a referral to an orthopedist. You won't find better pediatric care, from the receptionists to the doctors. I have several friends who've moved out of the city and continue their dr appts here. They're that good. read more

We love Dr. O'Neil. He was referred to us by a neighbor where we used to live. When we moved I thought I would try to see if there were a closer pediatrician and asked a friend for a referral - guess who she referred - Dr. O'Neil! I knew then we wouldn't be switching. One great thing about Dr. O'Neil (and other dr's at the practice, I've heard) is that he knows care of proper child male anatomy. He knows that when a boy is left intact (non-circumcised, as nature intended) a boy should never be forcibly retracted as only the boy himself should ever pull back his foreskin. I know a lot of people with doctors who don't understand normal, unaltered male anatomy so this doctor is fantastic! read more

Southwest Pediatrics is every mother's dream pediatrician's office. During the first year of my baby's life, I called the main line near weekly with questions; scheduled day-of, last minute appointments when health concerns arose; and even utilized the after-hours exchange line on one occasion rather than resorting to what would have been a costly and unnecessary ER visit. I can honestly say that literally every single doctor at this practice is exceptional, and I refuse to believe there could be a better pediatrician's office out there! read more

All of the doctors are friendly. They are also practical and reasonable. Based on our experience, they won't freak you out or let you freak yourself out with worries over your children. Bad experience with nighttime call to exchange and recieved Dr. Whiteside. She did not listen to me (the mother) even though I told her my son's symptons and he had been looked at in office a day prior and had taken a turn for the worse. I had to take son to emergency room and Doctor there very upset with this office for not recognizing the fact that this child needed medicine to get better. Throat was closing up and dehydrated and needed fluids which he recieved and shot of antibioctic. I have been going to this office for 23 years and very disappointed at the lack of respect that this doctor showed towards me. A mother knows when her child is sick and I followed through to get him help. I should have been able to go through my doctor. VERY VERY AGGRAVATED AND DISAPPOINTED! read more

After moving to St. Louis a few years ago I needed a new pediatrician - this office came highly recommended by a few friends. My old pediatrician's office was huge - 25 doctors, a website, a number of nurse practitioners and hours 7 days a week. So I confess I was a little bit skeptical about the small staff and the lack of weekend hours - but 2 years later, I don't think I'd take my child anywhere else. Everyone is extremely friendly and very good with children. We never have to wait long to see a doctor and they're able to get me in for a sick visit within a few hours. Most excellent staff! Love Dr. Whiteside, the registration crew, the nurses, pt techs, all are sweet and well accustomed to children and their parents. Dr. Whiteside came to my son's hospital at birth and has been there for my family with every childhood illness as well. Unfortunately my insurance changed this year and I could not continue to take my children to her. It has been a long 10 months with 5 children who were already really liked Dr. Whiteside who is affectionately called Dr. Cookie. Can't express how happy we have been with this practice. We love Dr. O'Neil--he is laid back, does not overreact (but always lets us know what the extreme situation would be) . I was referred here by my obyn who sent her kids here. The pediatrician I was using kept prescribing cremes for a rash on my newborn that weren't working and finally I went here. Dr. Whiteside figured it out with one look. My daughter love her and the office is great. On several occasions weve shown up at 8am sick, without an apt, were seen and back home with medicine and on the way to work by 9. They use cardinal glen non nurses for there on call service and I have been happy with that as well. They are very thorough. read more

My son has been with Dr Schmidt/Southwest Peds since he was born (14 yrs). About 10 years ago we moved from StL City to St Charles. It became quite a drive but we continue doing it because it is really hard to walk away from the best. Great doctors and staff! We have never had them not accommodate us for sick or well visits and would gladly see any of the dr's. Would and have recommended them to friends. read more

I found Southwest pediatrics when I was pregnant with my first son. He is now 11. I now have 3 boys and they all see Dr. O'neil. He has a great bedside manner. They have a very low staff turnover some of the same nurses are still there from my first visit. They are honest, genuinely care about children and work very hard. They have been with me every step of the way even as we found out some very challenging things about our oldest son. They were also gave us a referral to an ent specialist when our middle son needed his tonsils taken out. read more

We are new to town and called this practice on the recommendation from someone at our church. When reading this keep in mind we are used to the best doctors in the country in our previous state. Two of my three kids saw Dr. Aubuchon (2 girls, 1 boy). The visit was ok. Note great, not horrible. The lady at the front desk was fabulous; the nurse was very warm and friendly; and the doctor was fine. I am used to my kids having a much more thorough exam with a lot of back and forth about eating habits, exercise, school, friends, etc. This was a quick in and out exam. No questions for the parents, no eye exam, no questions about school, friends, family life, etc. (I feel the entire child needs to be looked at rather then just the physical vitals). It was pretty bare bones. The doctor was polite but seemed hurried. She was receptive to questions. My girls were put in two different rooms, but I did not get to be in the room when the older girl was being examined. That bothered me because I felt I needed to be part of the discussion. Any questions I had about her were answered during my younger daughter's exam. Didn't like that. Finally, the kicker for me was when they offered a cookie and sticker at the end of the visit. Mind boggling! With childhood obesity out of control.....with cookies being highly processed and having NO nutritional value...UGH! I'm not sure if I will stick with this one or not.
