I have been to many Physical Therapists and not one had any deep knowledge of Fascia and it's interactive importance on the human body. I saw her several years ago for myofascial release. Her treatment was very painful to the point that I would black out during sessions with her. When I told her about the pain, she wouldn't change her approach and just told me to "meditate" on the pain. I could not meditate on it, because the pain was so severe I would lose consciousness. The treatment did not actually help me, and I have some lingering problems that I believe may have been made worse by her aggressive style of massage. The key problem is that she does not seem to listen to feedback, which is essential for client safety in any healing profession. I hope she has received additional training or softened her approach since that time. read more

Over the last 7 years, I have had a terrible pain in my right glute when I would run, sit or stand too long or sleep in specific positions. In October 2020, the pain seemed to migrate over into my left hip creating constant swelling and pain. I'm super active and I had to completely stop working out. I went here specifically for myofascial massage. Aracelli is very talented in this field. She knows her stuff. I was dealing with memories of past child abuse and she was incredibly compassionate and caring as well as effective. My body felt like a newborn baby after my visits. It does take a few visits to really feel the results and you do have to be open minded about the process and also willing to let go / your my mind, etc (read notes on the website re: your first visit). I would highly recommend, especially if you have issues that traditional PT or doctors haven't been able to resolve. I've gone about 6 or 7 times, sometimes weekly sometimes waited 2 weeks to return. I have many, many issues with my body, have been told to have hip surgery, foot surgery and have had some back pain. Aracelli was very helpful with my hip and back pain as well. I have suffered for over a decade with myofascial pain and muscular imbalance likely caused by a ski injury 30 years ago and years working on a computer -- in six weeks under Aricelli's care, I have progressed tremendously in not only reducing muscular imbalances and pain but in understanding how to release tension myself with exercises at home. It would not be hyperbolic to say she's a magician when it comes to my hip/leg/knee imbalances that caused tension/pain throughout my entire body. Suddenly I can move my neck, jaw, shoulders, arms, hips and legs more freely. It's not an easy process, at times the pressure she applied was intense. I'd say I have taken two steps forward, three steps back, two steps forward, one step back and so on but the process is in the right direction and results long lasting. I hate to be the first to leave a less than glowing review, but I wish someone had done it earlier before I spent close to $200 on a bad experience. I came in for neck/shoulder pain, but the owner hardly touched my neck at all until the last possible moment of the 90 minute session, and then she simply kept her hands in one place, doing nothing at all. That basically describes the entire session, except the first half hour she spent digging her fingers into my stomach and lower intestines areas, where I had no problem whatsoever but because of her obsessive digging, I've now had a dull stomach ache since the session. She kept remarking that I was "so tight" - I'm an athletic person with very little fat on my stomach, but that doesn't mean I'm "tight," it means I'm slender. No amount of digging in my abs is going to change that. I told her that it didn't feel right and after what seemed like an eternity eventually she moved on to other things, like twisting my body and basically pushing me off the table while she attempted to reduce the "tightness" of my oblique (the side of my stomach). Never had a problem with the "tightness" of my stomach, and it has nothing to do with my reason for booking a session, but I kept telling myself to be open minded and imagine that it was working...I asked questions about her technique and though her answers were simple and vague, I told myself maybe she knows more than I do, just let her do her thing, maybe it will somehow work... Later as she pushed my shoulder in an awkward way that made it feel more tight rather than less, I told her that it felt a lot better if someone pushes the muscles in my shoulder the *other* direction, but this was lost on her - she tried to explain to me that it was "easier" to move my shoulder in the direction she chose and that was why she must continue to do it. She said she could hear the frustration in my voice - yes, you would be frustrated too if you just spent a large hunk of money on a stranger embedding their fingers in you in the most awkward way possible for 90 minutes straight! I tried to let my feelings be known, and she seemed to get the message but changed nothing as a result. She did say I might feel bad directly afterwards, but later I would "feel good." I wanted to believe. I waited a day. I studied my shoulders afterwards to see if by some miracle her obsession with my stomach would translate into less-tight shoulders. Nope. Of course not. If anything my shoulders are tighter than before because of her pushing me in all the wrong directions during the session. It has now been five days and I feel exactly like I did before the session. The minor stomach ache from all her clawing at my belly subsided after about a day, and that was literally the only difference I felt after 90 minutes of awkward touching. This would have been frustrating, had I spent $50. Very irritating had I spent $100. But the cost of this session, which was recommended to me by the owner when I told her about my neck/shoulder pain and asked whether I should book a massage or myofascial release session, was $190 - and it achieved nothing at all but a waste of an afternoon, a hole in my pocket and a stomach ache. If you are the type who likes deep tissue massage and are looking for actual relief for your muscle pain and shoulder/neck tightness, keep looking. What's sold here seems more like snake oil. I had a neck accident when I was 14 that has caused me chronic pain. I also recently found out I have tennis elbow (I don't play tennis) and carpel tunnel syndrome as well as sciattica down both legs. I know it's a lot. I have been in and out of traditional physical therapy since I had my first knee surgery at 18 (I've had 4 in total). I can unequivocally say that Southwest Physical Therapy is the first physical therapy practice that actually treats you as a WHOLE human. The therapy really works. I think I'm fairly intelligent and I have NEVER thought about how my torso is connected to my pelvis. I received a massage from Ariceli and it was very therapeutic. I have chronic myofascial issues and she expertly assessed and treated my condition. The relief wasn't immediate but happened over the course of a few days after my massage. I followed her stretching recommendations and I'm feeling awesome right now! While the staff might indeed be nice, I felt the entire experience to be rather pseudo science than any actual benefit. I spent $140 and for one hour I got pulled in one direction and then another. I have had the same issue before and went to a massage therapist who actually felt the muscle and released the tension. That only cost me $40 and was about 45 mins long. This one hour session did nothing for my back. The kicker is they want me there 3x a week. Also there is NO privacy between you and the other patient. All you have is a privacy screen. You can hear anyones conversation loud and clear, so if you expect any sort of confidentiality, perish the thought. 3 more times a week of $140? No thanks. read more

It's a really good place to go. They know what they are doing, they are nice, and they do a good job. That said, they charge too much and I had a weird feeling they were not that interested in urging me to return. Maybe because I have no insurance. I paid cash & if I had more money I'd totally go back, especially since I need it so bad. Maybe it's that I'm from CA, but I guess I'm used to physical therapists pushing for me to come back and offering me cheaper rates because my body's so jacked-up & I'm so broke, but not here. Might be a NY thing. Might be that they are very small, like a mom & pop store (so were most of the CA PT's I saw) & they need the money. I get that. They were nice though. Very friendly & laid back. They were very considerate of my injuries & she paid attention to what was the core cause or biggest underlying issue of my pain. They are good at what they do. They don't have a receptionist so maybe it's that sales and service is not their biggest strength-- PT is though. Myofascial release is their treatment & it's what I've experienced before so I prefer it. They really helped. But without going in more I'm still in pain. It is lessened though & they gave me a little inflatable ball to use at home that does help a lot. If you have insurance &/or lots of money and need physical therapy by all means go to Southwest. They really are great PT's & it's not one of those PT mills that don't care about you or your pain; these folks do care. If I can find a way to afford it I'll go back for sure! read more

Aracelli Gonzales has a magic touch. She feels my pain and knows where to look for the source of the pain. You have to be patient, as with MFR you don't get the heavy pressure you expect with traditional massage. Initially it feels like there is no effect, but after my third treatment I felt that finally what seemed like a solid wooden set of muscles started getting a range of motion. Any other massage lasted for a day for me, but this treatment felt more lasting and gives me hope that my problem could be solved for good. read more

There is legit nobody like Aricelli, and I can't think of another place that does what she does. She spends as much time as you need- there's no clock with her, in terms of her time or focus. She is 100% with you when working. Her intuition is almost spooky, she's so good. As a person, she's one of the most interesting, charming and creative in Brooklyn. I entered the space really skeptical about a month ago, due to debilitating sciatic pain from a botched surgery alongside my chronic leftover pain issues from Lyme Disease. I didn't want to spend money on yet another treatment (and I've tried evvvverything), and I thought the mind-body connection was a waste of time when my problem is purely physiological. But this is the best investment I can be making right now, and even though I'm not into the spiritual thing, I find myself just feeling better and hopeful when I leave. I was 10 weeks with a serious knee problem. After the orthopedist surgeon, then the rheumatologist diagnosed osteoarthritis. Incurable, I will have to live with it. The orthopedist gave me an injection of cortisone. This just allowed me to walk home with a little less pain. The effect did not last more than 24 hours. Before that the regular doctor gave me 3 different pain killers at 3 different instances, which did not help. With my prescription for physical therapy I went to see Michael at Soutwest. I was surprised to see that he addressed the left side of my body when it was my right knee the problem. After the 45 minutes of treatment I was able to walk home. "try not to limp" said it when I left. I walked back home slowly 20 minutes with the ball he gave me to "do some home work". I kept going twice a week for 4 weeks. I am so happy that with no medicine I recovered my normal ability to walk. When I went to see the rheumatologist one month later. He was amazed to see me moving so fast. Now one more month has gone by, I use the ball everyday to maintain my good shape. I was able to shovel a lot of snow lately to my surprised that I did not get aches the day after. I even fell on the ice, with no consequence. The other good side about this place is that they try to make you understand how the fascia works. I even read some litterature about the fascia hoping that I will not have to see the regular doctor anymore (!!). Obviously I recommend highly these therapists, Michael and Aracelli for making me discover their technique. They are now my friends. I would like to mention also that I am past 65 and could be condemned to walk with a cane and take horrible medicine that hurt my stomach and more. As an avid runner and triathlete, I've been to many physical therapists and other healing specialists (20+) over the past several years, and Aracelli is really one-of-a-kind. For the past year I have been dealing with a chronic shoulder injury, and was not able to find someone in my insurance network who could really help me and get to the root of my injury. When I showed up for my first appointment at Southwest Physical Therapy, I was in so much pain I could barely walk. I had a herniated disc with constant shooting pain down my leg from the sciatic nerve. I had already been to countless PT, chiropractor and doctor appointments in Manhattan where I felt like I was pretty much run through a factory. None of those visits helped with the pain. Southwest was an entirely different experience. I have never had this kind of care. Michael and Aracelli addressed the problem immediately, and gave me great advice on how to deal with chronic pain on both a physical and mental level.
