I flew Southwest Airline Dallas to Charlotte. It was a good flight. Got a whole can of Dr Pepper. Baggage claim was like an hour tho.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport - CLT

Last week, I flew out to Charlotte for a layover on the way back home from visiting family, and I…read moreflew American Airlines as usual. I arrived at concourse E, almost flew out of concourse A, and ended up flying out of concourse C. American Airlines has gates they typically use across concourses A through E. With the exception of one day once upon a time, when I was stranded overnight in Charlotte due to flight cancellations, I have always had a very positive experience at CLT Airport. After all, the unofficial slogan of the Charlotte Douglas International Airport is "The Difference is Charlotte." Unlike friends who absolutely hate flying, I enjoy the travel experience, especially when using some helpful tools like CLEAR, Global Entry/TSA Pre-Check, airport lounge membership, and airline status, most of which I was able to enjoy during my CLT visits. When checking in (during my rare travels where I start a journey in Charlotte), I was able to skip the check-in area if I didn't need to check bags (as I checked in online) on one of my trips, and then this most recent time, I checked in at the priority area for assistance and checking bags. I then used Global Entry and CLEAR to skip most of the line at Security while keeping my shoes on (thanks to an American Express Platinum card, which comes with credits for both). CLT has 13 open lounges and experiences: 2 American Airlines Admirals Clubs, plus a Provisions by Admirals Club, the Amex Centurion Lounge, The Club CLT, a Delta Sky Club, Gameway, 2 Minute Suites, and the USO Lounge, plus 2 Be Relax Spas (the Concourse A location accepts Priority Pass). Access generally comes in one of 4 ways: a premium or partner ticket, airline status, a lounge or credit card membership, or a paid day pass. I often have two hours for a layover, which is enough time to visit the Centurion Lounge and an Admirals Club, though it's also great to stop by Provisions by Admirals Club for a quick grab-and-go, where I end up with a bag of items to bring on my flight. The airport is known for its Southern rocking chairs (100 of them!). They also have the CLT Canine Crew, where you can meet and pet therapy dogs wearing special vests if you need to calm travel anxiety. They have an Interfaith Chapel open daily from 5 AM to midnight. They have live piano music in the main atrium; there are art and history exhibits around gates A21-A29 dedicated to the Wright Brothers, and a 15-foot bronze Queen Charlotte Statue. They also have 74 restaurants and 54 shops. You can visit https://www.cltairport.com/shop-dine-and-relax for more details about these locations. All in all, it's a great airport, and I do not have an issue with a layover here and there.

I STG it has been under construction since at least 2012 which was the first time I flew thru & before I moved here. It always says "'making improvements" but I have yet to see any AND half the time the water dispensers don't work and the moving walkways and escalators are out of service?!? WHY?! Also, they really need more departure boards imho for an airport this size these r weirdly lacking. The few things it has going for it are the staff r surprisingly nice & helpful (especially the pre-check sentinels for all the people that act like they literally just woke up and this is their first time in an airport and can also "not read good" ). This was especially true for a recent intl trip I returned from and we t thru customs here; it was like herding cats, but the staff were calm, courteous, and patient. The only issue was we had to wait almost an hr on our plane because we landed early and Customs didn't "open" until 1pm...I have never heard such nonsense in my life! The other things it doesn't suck at is easy access to the area for the prkg shuttles and decent signage (u would think this would be a given, but go to MIA and try figuring out how to not only exit but find the People Mover/train!). As someone who travels frequently & has been to thru every major airport in the US, CLT could already be "improved", but instead it's always seems to be "improving" for the worse.

One was bragging to the other that she went all New York on a customer. Definitely need additional customer service training. You will get charged for everything (ie carry-on bag, a soda, small bag of chips, etc). I'm sure that if the cabin were to become decompressed, when the O2 masks drop down, we'd need to swipe our credit card to start the flow of oxygen. My main gripe is that I paid in advance for three aisle seats (14C, 14D, 15C) at $40 a seat. When we boarded, the gate attendant (without asking us) had switched our seats to 6A,6B,6C. And now I'm being told that the $120 I spent to reserve the aisle seats (that were switched by Spirit) is non-refundable. Sounds like another class action lawsuit is in the near future. DO NOT pay to reserve a seat on Spirit. No seat pocket, just a bungee chord. To call it a "tray table" is a stretch. Bring your own device for entertainment, because no screen is provided.

She's a teacher - she cannot up and move her SCHEDULED flight. It was sent through her email about the change. No confirmation, no call, just email. When she's preparing for her flight, she sees the change only to be told that she was a no-show and would not be refunded any money. This is how Spirit stays afloat. She finally speaks to a human after spending an hour going through their AI guest relations. She gets another flight that is going out on Monday but returning on Saturday. (Original flight had her returning on Friday). No extra charge. Same price but one less day at her destination. But it gets better. On her return, her flight is delayed and check-in would not begin until 2:15 pm. When she gets to the airport, Spirit Airline has closed. Apparently, they close down check-in at 12:30 pm on Saturdays. Also, not relayed to my daughter. She looses her flight and her money. She then scrambles to book another flight on another airline. Do NOT use this airline. Let it go bankrupt!!!

We went to Italy and April planned everything we wanted to do for us and even put it all together in a binder with our itinerary including hotel and transportation vouchers - all within the budget we gave her (somehow). She included instructions and helpful tips for every part of our journey and picked the best days to do each activity. We had some trouble on the return home when our connecting flight was cancelled due to an airline strike. We went to the airline's customer service desk as we were already at the gate when the cancellation happened. There were at least 30 people in front of us and, in a few short minutes, dozens more behind us and we were going nowhere. We decided to call April and ask if she could help. I'm so happy we did. We were able to get out of that line and go grab a bite to eat while April solved all of our problems, arranging a new flight and a hotel. As if that wasn't enough, April constantly followed up with us to make sure we were getting everything we needed and that we returned home safely. Then she helped us get reimbursed for all of the additional expenses due to the flight cancellation. I could tell you about all of the small things April did like inform our hotels we were honeymooning so they comped us champagne or update us with changes to tour schedules so we didn't miss anything, but it is the constant attention she placed on our needs during our trip to make sure that everything was perfect that really made the difference. Both vacations we booked through April were perfect and I couldn't imaging trying to do it without her. Thank you, April, for making sure our honeymoon was special.

Otherwise, you are on your own. Although chat is available on the website, you will chat with a bot. The bot told me that I was sent an email regarding my flight cancellation and that I needed to proceed using the included link. It would resend the email if needed, but no assistance was available beyond that. My issue was paying for round trip seating at my initial reservation and paying for round trip seating upon rescheduling my return flight. I sent an email and am awaiting resolution. The seats (see photo) are not well cushioned and your tush will likely remind you of sitting on the plane. However, if your flight is less than three hours, you might be okay. Note the tray table is big enough for your phone only (see photo). On top of that, the seats do not recline. Reservations indicatemore leg room is available in some seats but I didn't bite. The seats behind the Exit rows are about the same as any other seat on the plane. Remember, there are NO freebies. Your carry-on has size limitations and you will pay for a second carry on, checked bags, and food/drinks on the plane. The restrooms are free. I must give Frontier credit for canceling the return flight through Orlando during Hurricane Ian a day in advance vs. flying me in and me being stuck there for days. However, they failed to notify me that my gate had changed. Fortunately, I checked about an hour out and had plenty of time to get to the new gate.
