Very unprofessional!!!
A couple of weeks ago I bought two 4 weeks old rats from Southside Pet Barn. I spoke with the manager/breeder at the time and she said that they would be ready for me to pick up once they were 6 weeks old. I paid in full for both rats and was meant to be picking them up this coming weekend.
I'm a Kindy teacher and the rats were new cagemates for our 2 year old class rat whose cagemate recently passed away. My kindergarten class and I had chosen names for them and were excited for their arrival until I received a phone call yesterday saying my rats had accidentally been sold to someone else. I went in today to resolve the issue and attempted to have a calm conversation with the manager/breeder. Her solution was to take the one rat she had left or wait at least 3 weeks for the next litter. I had already waited 2 weeks and was in urgent need for two new rats - not only because our 2 year old rat is lonely but my class of 4yr olds were expecting babies rats Monday.
The manager/breeder did not take responsibility for the mistake, she simply said the staff member at fault was given a warning. On top of a refund, I asked if she could give me any additional compensation for the trouble e.g. something small from the store. She began to raise her voice, get defensive and even brought me to tears, to the point where my partner had to step in and speak for me.
She was very unprofessional, swearing at times and even compared the additional compensation to a hypothetical scenario, saying it's like a childcare centre giving a free day of care to a child that had been bitten by another. WHAT? How is that even comparable?
