Chinguacousy Wellness Centre - Kettle ball rack

Chinguacousy Wellness Centre

All's well at Chinguacousy Wellness…read more I went here for the first time a couple weeks ago and actually had a great time. My gf took me here because her pass at Goodlife expired and tbh my expectations were low but this place made quite an impression on me. All the gym equipment is in the middle of the room and there is a track that goes around it. It's neat how they managed to incorporate a track like that because now you never have to wait for a treadmill. At the corners of the track, there are spaces to do stretches/mattress exercises. The best part is the huge windows that allow lots of natural light to come in. The one thing I didn't like about the Goodlife in BCC is that it is in a basement and there are zero windows. So it was great to walk into Wellness Centre and be able to absorb that vitamin D while working out. To top it off, they lemon flavoured water that you can choose to drink if you get tired of regular water! Yeah, I really liked this place. The only negative would be that it's still a pretty small gym compared to the Goodlife gym nearby (main competitor). The great set up of the equipment kind of makes up for the smaller space but I find there's a bit more wait time for the equipment during peak hours than at Goodlife. Overall fantastic gym, I was impressed.

No separate lines organized for people registering for programs, vs those who are just in for a drop in. It's normal for all staff to be occupied with mothers who are deciding on which sports programs to enrol their family in.

Cassie Campbell, or better known as the Wellness Centre's twin…read more The reason I say that is because the layout for both of them is basically identical. However, perhaps because it is newer, Cassie Campbell is a little nicer. What I like about it is the giant glass walls that allow you to see outside. It really makes the place seem bigger and non-claustorphobic. The layout of the gym consists of all the workout equipment in the centre, and a track circling around, with the corners available for stretching exercises. Basically every piece of equipment one could need is here, and then some. The membership fees are reasonable. I bought a month pass which is only $40 if you are a student, otherwise its closer to $50. For a one time pass it's $7 for a student and closer to $10 if you are not a student. There are also a lot of other activities and classes since it's a community centre; however, I can only comment on the gym part since that's all I really used. If you are looking for a place to workout, I recommend at least trying out this gym, you might end up loving it. Warning, depending on which side you come from on Chinguacousy you may have to pull a U-Turn to get inside the parking lot lol. . . but bonus though, if you buy a pass to any Brampton city gym, you gain access to all their gyms.

I like that they have an indoor running track - being a runner myself - which is especially useful in the winter, or even just as a better alternative than a treadmill. Otherwise, fairly standard gym area and never too crowded. There's also a pool, which you won't have at most other gyms. I'm personally into group classes since they keep me more motivated and interested than working out alone on a machine. Some really good classes and teachers. The only downside at times is if you just have a so-so teacher, since they're given license to plan the class. That can be an upside too if you have a really good teacher, but sometimes with other teachers you may not feel as challenged and/or feel a muscle group wasn't really targeted (at Goodlife, they have standardized classes which doesn't really matter who's teaching). I do enjoy that the group classes have a true 'group' feeling to them, and people will talk with each other. There's also a good balance of men in the group classes, so it isn't awkward like it often was a Goodlife in that sense. A huge value is having the family pass. The big payoff is once your child reaches 3, then they can be in child minding for free during your workout. The kids have options like a 2 story play structure, rather than just being a daycare-environment room. Most of the classes are included in the membership too, so our son has swimming lessons and multi-sports at no extra charge. This was the main reason we chose to join. Downside is the change area. It's very much like a public rec centre rather than a gym or a club with tiled floors, showers which take 2 minutes to get hot water and so on. There is a 'plus' area, which is more of a club environment. It has a steam room and whirlpool. I'd really love these, but it's literally a couple hundred extra dollars a year which is too much right now with a young family. Other gyms like Goodlife have a sauna for everyone, so I don't really like having to pay what is standard for most others. Only reason I can't give a 5 star, but I do really recommend this place.

Am posting a review on this past weekend's Carabram Festival…read more There were several locations throughout the City of Brampton, celebrating vibrancy, inclusion and diversity. Attended all three pavilions, traveled to Africa, South Asia, watched a Chinese dance group, had fresh king coconut at the Sri Lankan pavilion as well as purchasing fresh mangosteen, and was thrilled to find REAL shea butter from a vendor selling products from Ghana at the African pavilion. Great fun, well organized event. Kudos are due to the organizers of this event. We traveled from Toronto and were glad we attended. Well done!

It's a nice building in the downtown core and it's close to all the action, but considering what I was building this place up as in my mind, I've been disappointed by my visits there. It doesn't have anything to do with the refreshments or food that are offered during events - those have been uniformly fantastic on the four occasions I've visited. No, I'm disappointed by the atrium, which looks positively bland compared to the Civic Centre in Mississauga. You can't go from marbled columns and spacious, beautiful green-and-beige colors to a venue where the whole color scheme is just gray, gray and some more gray for good measure. This is an underwhelming site that doesn't befit a building of this nature, and frankly, the city should pony up the dough to revamp the place. (You'd think they'd be doing this already, considering they sprung for upgrades to the West Tower Conservatory next door and other community sites throughout the city.) I recently came here for a New Year's Levee, and while I was impressed by Mayor Patrick Brown's speech and the photo/networking opportunities it presented, I found some part of the experience lacking. There was little of the pomp and circumstance seen at the Mississauga New Year's Levee held a day later, and the whole thing just kind of ended with Brown taking the spotlight while the rest of the councillors awkwardly milled around and passed out marketing materials. And where were all the MPPs? The NDP Brampton-Centre rep, Sara Singh, made the time to show up, but no one else apparently bothered. I soon found myself wishing to leave, and quickly made a beeline for the nearest bus so I could get back to familiar ground. Even Council Chambers are lacking. You mean to tell me the lazy square seats and smallish room where the seat of power is located is meant to be impressive? Brampton City Hall seriously needs a makeover. There's some good stuff to be found here (mostly in the hospitality aspect), but the site itself is lacking in several ways.
