I believe she is the owner of the establishment. She made me feel extremely comfortable and always made sure that I was doing okay throughout the entire experience. When I walked in I was asked if I needed to use the restroom and then someone had walked into the restroom so I was told to sit down in the front. In the package it says to arrive 30 minutes early to enjoy mimosas and sweet treats. I did not get taken back to the relaxation room until I stood up and said something. They were too busy chit chatting than worrying about their customer. Finally I was taken back to the relaxation room about 10 minutes before my massage. When I walked in I was shocked they had camper chair for us to sit in, in a so called "relaxation" room. I literally had to chug down my drink and sweet treats before my massage. Finally the massage. ABSOLUTE worst massage I've ever received. The lady spent more time putting the mint oil infront of my nose than actually massage my neck and shoulders, which was literally suffocating. I was also told that hot stone would be included. I had maybe 5 minutes of hot stone on my back and then another 5 minutes of her massaging my back. I'm carrying around a newborn and toddler all day so that was extremely upsetting. My husband booked this massage as a postpartum gift since I just went through an emergency c section and he just wanted me to have a day of relaxation. I left there extremely upset and frustrated instead of feeling good. I ended up leaving a review that night which I've never left a review in my life. And then they replied and was told in the reply if I was open to it they'd like to discuss this further. I called the spa 3 times and the first time I called I was told I would probably just get a refund and that I would be getting a call back. Every other time I called I was given the runaround and told I would be getting a call back. Finally this morning I called and spoke with the owner. The owner was not nice at all and told me because I left a review she will not be giving me any type of compensation. She literally said that because I left a review for the public to see she will not be helping me. I didn't know that I wasn't entitled to leave a review of my experience and because I did I will not be helped. Absolute insanity. Worst customer service and WORST "spa" I've ever been to. I arrived on time and was told she would be here any minute. A few minutes later the guy working the front told me to use the tanning bed to "open my pores", I am thinking this must be to kill time since she is running late. I am staring at him cause he says lay down for 13 minutes. I am new to tanning and ask "Fully Clothed" and he says" no you can take your clothes off and lay in there". So I do in panties and bra and I don't think 13 minutes will be a lot but half way through the session I pull my bra straps down just in case. I am done get up and low and behold I have tan lines from the eye protectant and the bra straps. CRAP!!! Wish I would of been warned. I get dressed and he sends me to the room where they spray. I am wearing jeans and a t shirt, not knowing I should be wearing loose fitting clothes. She comes in and asks if my pants are tight and I say no, and that next time I should wear sweats (there won't be a next time) and information on what to wear after the session would of been nice. The spray tanning itself took no time at all and the drying part was 15-20 minutes. The color looks great, tan lines not so much I am hoping it fades by Friday. I go up front to pay and the spray tan was $20 that was the special, and then she charges me $7.99 for laying in the bed for 13 minutes. Yet she was 25 minutes late and I was not told I would be charged for that if not I would not have laid int he tanning bed. So instead of spending $20 it was $27.99, that's what they charge for like a month of tanning. Lesson learned. Never again. I'll stick to the sun in moderation, at least it's free.

I was very excited when Planet Beach opened up - since I was in the market for a new tanning place…read more (My old place was nice enough but had just changed their prices and made NO sense - usually it costs less the more you buy or if you buy a bigger package, but their packages actually got MORE expensive.) But anyway...when Planet Beach was "coming soon" I went over and met the owner and she was very nice and answered all my questions. I actually received a personal visit a few days later at my office with an information packet - she had remembered I said I worked close by, and was bringing me information on a business membership. It turns out we didn't go the business route, but I decided that I was willing to try Planet Beach for myself. Every time I called or stopped by, I was greeted by name (impressive to me!) and everyone was always very friendly! Once I stopped by to check and see when they were opening (it kept getting pushed back) and they gave me a tour, complete with workers buzzing around, construction dust all over, etc. Once they finally opened, I opted for the Elite membership, which gives you access to the Elite beds (higher power, less time needed per visit). The owner also let me use my "referral" card to try out the spa treatments. (You get a card that allows you three free tans or one free spa treatment. Even though I had used my one free tan as a trial and was buying a membership, they stil let me try the spa treatment! They were always very nice and very accommodating. The only thing I worried about with the Elite package was that there were only two Elite units - one "lay down" and one "stand up" (while there were about six regular beds). My concern was "What happens when you get too busy and that bed isn't available?" They assured me it wasn't likely to happen - or that I'd maybe have to wait 10 minutes at the most - but they didn't take appointments so it was first come, first serve. Which worked fine...for a few months...until they started getting busier...and started taking appointments. Honestly, this is why they only get 4 stars from me. Since I usually just run over when I get a free 20 minutes from work, I can have no set tanning schedule. So when they started taking appointments, now when I decide to run over, it's about a 50/50 shot to get one of the two Elite beds. Someone is either already in the bed(s) or they have an appointment at a near-enough time that I can't get in and out before their appointment. (Had they always taken appointments, I couldn't complain. But it's a new thing.) Yes, I am still able to use one of the regular Platinum beds, but I am paying twice as much to use the Elite beds so I should be able to use those. Yes, I think I was spoiled by being a member from the very first day, when there weren't a lot of members. Yes, I can still wait for the bed I want (if there are no other appointments) - but unfortunately, I don't have the luxury to wait 15 minutes on top of my actual tanning time. So, would I still recommend Planet Beach? Definitely, without a doubt. The location is convenient. The actual place is clean and inviting. The service is great - there is never any pressure to upgrade or purchase extras. The workers are friendly - I am generally greeted by name and engage in some chat with the owner and/or workers. The owners have even gone out of their way a time or two to help me out with payment issues. I just don't like that they only have two Elite beds and that they take appointments, which doesn't work for me (or at least hasn't been great so far). I would give them 4.5 if I could (because they are good, just not perfect)!

Sub-par equipment. Multiple beds are out of order on a regular basis, and beds have bulbs out…read moreoften. Bulbs are also clearly not changed on a regular enough basis. Product inventory isn't kept up with, will go weeks with the same lotions out of stock. There is a clear miscommunication with the management, sales girls aren't informed when/if bulbs have been/will be changed or when new inventory will come in. Also, the manager is apparently hard to reach during the day. I had a question about my package and the girl called the manager 3 times with no answer. If I were you I would definitely pay a few extra bucks and TAN SOMEWHERE ELSE.

I sent a request to have my account frozen durring a month that i was home and they still charged my account. I called mulitple times and I talked to a very ignorant lady who told me that I would not be able to get a refund even though i followed their procedure of freezing my account. And on top of all that when i told her to just cancle my membership she couldnt do that, so I have to print out a form and email it in. If you are new to Jacksonville and just want to be able to tan off and on as you please DO NOT go to ilsand tan on western. They will take so much money from you and you are really not getting much in return.
