We were passing through South Boston at lunchtime and saw this place on Yelp. We got there right at 11:00am when they were switching over from breakfast to lunch. The place was clean and welcoming. We ordered the Holler and the Green's folly sandwiches with a side of Hash brown casserole. Oh my goodness, both were two of the best sandwiches we've ever had, and that hash brown casserole was fabulous, we were lucky that was still available since it is a breakfast only side. The staff was working their tails off and you could tell they cared very much about the product they put out. Great downtown location. Will definitely be back if in the area again!! read more

I have come to this place several times and tried pretty much everything on their menu. The coffee isn't bad. I tried to lemonade and I didn't enjoy whatever syrup they were using at the time, so I never ordered it again. The burritos were terrible. Honestly every food item that I have tried has not been good, other than the chicken salad sandwich and the rueben sandwich. The chicken salad sandwich is probably the best chicken salad I've had other than at Arby's, but I also haven't ordered it but a few times when I've gone out. I love the addition of grapes and nuts in my chicken salad. My only issue with both of those items is that they don't put enough filling on either item and I would have to order both things to fill me up. I feel like the put enough filling for half a sandwich, not a whole sandwich. Other than that, the other items on the menu are just sweet; it's like they put sugar in everything and I'm just not a fan. Friendly service and good tasty food. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit. We were on a road trip from Asheville to Richmond and wanted to stop to eat at a local business. This was a great stop. We ate at the sidewalk tables because we were traveling with two dogs. There were some nice creative choices on the menu. my husband had the Main Street, I had the Holler and a chai tea latte. we also got two slices of cheesecake to go. Both sandwiches were delicious! Whether you're a local or just driving through South Boston, Southern Plenty should be at the top of your places to visit. I live in town now but I grew up just outside of Boston, Massachusetts where I experienced my fair share of truly good food. That's the one thing I miss about the North, but Southern Plenty fills that great big void in my heart. I try to be a regular and I bring every one of my family members and friends who come to visit me here. Their response is each the same, they ADORE it. Often wishing to visit it more than once during their stay. Their bacon and cheddar quiche is entirely exquisite, surpassing even my own mother's, who up until this point made the best quiche I had ever eaten. I'll order it for breakfast with a side of their hash brown casserole (which is pure comfort food) or I'll order it for lunch with a side of their pickled beets and goat cheese (soooooo refreshing and savory). There's always something fresh to try on their specials and my favorite thus far has been their cream cheese stuffed French toast with lemon curd and blueberries. In my opinion, those toppings should be added to the menu permanently, they're that good! Sure, not everything on the menu is my favorite but that's just my own personal taste and not the restaurants problem. It should be noted too just how delightful the staff are. Each one is personable, helpful, and kind. They become friends, with their hearts visible through their smiles. They work very hard, all while maintaining a joyful spirit and environment. They're what make this spot truly special. It wouldn't be the same without each of them. If you want to come visit while avoiding a wait, try visiting midweek. Saturday's here are BUSY. It is a smaller cafe, though they certainly offer ample seating for their size! Including some lovely outdoor seating if the weather allows. There is a recent negative review on here that I feel is completely unnecessary and would like to acknowledge. It makes me upset to see how quick people are to leave negative reviews for small businesses because unwarranted reviews like that can mean a businesses livelihood. And if you don't have a valid reason to leave a pitiful 1 star review, don't leave one at all. The individual was upset at how long they had to wait on a Saturday, how people weren't giving up their tables, and how the business should expand. Yes, Saturdays here will be a longer wait time. Everyone wants to bring their whole family. So if you're in a rush - don't go during rush time. Please remember this is a VERY small town and Southern Plenty is not only a favorite of the locals, it's part of the heart and soul of this town. It's a happy family friendly environment and welcomes everyone to "come and stay awhile". It fosters heartfelt catchups and memories with little ones and grandparents. Don't rush people out of that experience and don't try to change it. Love it for what it is and appreciate what it has to offer. If you don't like it, go somewhere else, there's a real quick McDonald's right down the road. read more

Once entering you have to go up to the front to order, they give you a number, maybe you can find a seat, bring you, your food once it's ready. Prices are okay. Took about 30 mins to get to our table, which was about right, we had to wait for a table, people just talking and talking after they ate and want get up so new customers can have a table, that was frustrating!! When you get finished eating, get up, you see the place is packed and people are waiting for tables! The food arrived, we both got French toast, it was spongy, like it had been sitting around, bacon was crispy, hardly any fruit on it, I mean maybe two pieces, it really didn't taste like French toast, no seasoning or flavor. Meat was perfect. Pretzel roll was a nice change. My wife enjoyed her sandwich too. Management changed a couple years ago. I liked the old menu and food A little better but we did like our meal. Haven't had a bad one there yet! As far as the ambiance - nothing special there. Walls have basic beige paint. No art and no goodies for sale. It was clean but too empty for me. Bathroom was nice. My wife and I had breakfast in this cute little cafe/diner on Christmas Eve Eve. We each ordered lattes which were frothy, served in a huge mug and were delicious. They were very reasonably priced at $3 each. We both ordered eggs, bacon, toast and hash brown casserole for $6.75. The star of the group was the casserole which was cheesy and delicious. The eggs were perfectly prepared, which is often not the case. The bacon was tasty but a wee bit greasy. The toast was, well, toast. We appreciated the attention to the small details like the natural sugar and real butter (neither of which are "small" to us). Service was warm, friendly and attentive from beginning to end. They also serve lunch which includes Boar's Head meats on a bevy of different sandwiches. The dining area was cozy and inviting and was half full of happy locals, along with us and a friendly trucker who made it clear that he always stops here on his way through South Boston. We were running behind getting to town so shifted gears to re-arrange errands a d where we ere going to eat. I had already put this location on my list so we decided to have lunch. A local mentioned is was also one of their favorite places. It was definitely busy, small and cozy and not a lot of seating inside. They showcase local artists and sell there items which is really nice and adds to the decor. The food is a little eclecticwhich always intrigues me. The have Mimosa's and spike coffee at good prices. The regular coffee was very good and a plentiful serving. The food was delicious and all the different flavors of what we ordered went perfectly qith each other. The chicken salad sandwich is delicious, but doesn't have enough chicken salad on it, so not a good bread to filling ratio. I had ordered a sandwich for here and a sandwich to go for lunch today, but ended up eating both for breakfast. Im a small girl whos stomach is very shrunk from just coming off of several months of fasting..That should tell you how lacking they are in filling. The burritos are lacking in a good meat portion and are filled with unseasoned potato or loaded with onion. The corned beef sandwich is decent; probably the best thing on the menu. I try to get something different every time, but the corned beef seems to be the only thing I haven't been disappointed by so far. Passing through and the man at the nearby shoe store recommended this place. It was quite busy but we got a table right when we ordered. Choices were somewhat unusual but in a good way. My husband had the Po Boy with shrimp and bacon and macaroni salad (sweet) as side. I had the pulled pork sandwich with sauerkraut and onion jam which was good. The chicken meatball soup was the side. The soup wasn't hot enough but the flavor was good. All the food was good. Ambience was good. Busy cafe but not overwhelming. The staff were all friendly. Had to wait a bit for our food but you knew it was made for you. Ate two truffles which were great. Would recommend to anyone passing through.
