I went to Southern Hill Nursery for several plants/trees. I need 10 sago palms, 11 queen palms, 2 citrus trees, 4 crape myrtle trees. In addition, I wanted 10-12 hedge/creeping plants to cover a 2ft high wall next to my driveway. I was very focused on the 2ft wall high plants. I already had asparagus and wax leaf plants that provide a hedge and covering another 2ft high wall in front of my house. But I wanted something that would flower and not be deciduous in the colder months. I had asked one salesperson in the office for a suggestion on a plant that is fast growing and the could function as a hedge and cover a 2ft high stack stone wall. He told me that the asparagus and wax leaf was a choice but would be difficult to train to cover the wall. He told me to look around. I began looking, and was trying to remember my list of plants to buy. I started walking to the sales office when another man (an older man)asked if I needed help. When I asked this man for suggestions regarding the 2ft wall, he told me that I was asking him to be my gardner. He pointed to some tiny plants but didn't state what they were. I told him I would like bigger plants that flower. He told me that I was wasting his time, he sells to the city of Hemet and did not need my business. I said ok, and left. As I was walking to my car, he said I wasted his time a few more times. I will never go back to this nursery. Shout out to Moon nursery in Murrieta who helped me out and were amazing!! read more

I had a fantastic experience with Southern Hill Nursery. I couldn't get enough of their greeter Pepe (a K9). He was incredibly friendly, approachable, and enthusiastic. He went above and beyond to ensure we got a very warm welcome when we arrived. They should really look into promoting him, SH Nursery is lucky to have such a valuable member as part of their team. Overall the Nursery has a good variety of plants and trees. The prices of the plants and trees are very affordable. You can drive around the property and take a up close look at the inventory. Selection and Value were good. However, Customer Service after the sale needs work. If you purchase any larger items I suggest you have a plan to transport OR make sure expectations for delivery is clarified up front. I purchased my plants/trees on a Friday and was told they would be delivered the following Friday. No specific time frame was given on the receipt so I called the Nursery a few days later several times but no answer When I finally reached someone at the Nursery I was told that a specific timeframe for delivery couldn't be confirmed so basically I had to wait the whole day. My plants were finally delivered at 3:00pm. Truck pulled up to curb in front of my house and driver was literally going to drop plants/trees off curbside. Driver didn't have any equipment to move the heavier Trees off the truck. Fortunately for me I had a refrigerator dolly and driver had a board so he slid the plants/trees onto dolly so plants/trees could be safely taken off truck and placed in my yard. We were looking for Olive trees. Went to a big corporate nursery and were floored by their outrageous prices. On the way home we stopped at Mercados. Boy are glad we did. This place is unbelievable! We walked out with two 5' tall olive trees and paid $90! Also splurged on a 24" box Mesquite that is easily 10' tall already and a truck bed full of top soil. All for a really unreal price of $235. Mercado nursery was great! Carlos was extremely personable and very knowledgeable about the plants and also when they bloom, how big they grow, how to arrange them for maximum curb appeal, etc. He was also very honest! I was interested in a particular pigmy palm tree and he told me that he had observed something that concerned him a while before that indicated that one of the "trunks" might not survive. He told me that I could buy it and see if it would take but recommended another that was completely healthy. Their prices are great as they are a wholesaler but I was still going to spend some money on the trees and shrubs and wanted to make sure they were going to survive and look good. I just bought two trees for 45 dollars. The prices are so reasonable! I will say that coming here is a good experience. I am as impressed with his dogs as the plants! I loved his dogs! You can tell they are so happy where they are and they love their owner. Now back to the nursery. My only suggestion would be is to know what you want when you go. My cell phone and internet did not work out there and so no last minute checking on pros and cons of a plant or tree. This is more like a wholesale nursery and so each container is not marked with the names of trees and plants and useful information. That being said, there is a big selection of plants and trees that grow well in my area. Enjoy! read more
