Women's clubs helped to launch the women's rights movement. The Punta Gorda Woman's Club was formed in 1925 when three clubs consolidated, The Ladies Fortnightly Club, The Women's Club Civic Association, and The Married Ladies Club. They came together to be able to be able to build a one story Spanish Mission style building in 1926 on land in downtown Punta Gorda donated by Judge William Fenmore Cooper from Illinois. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. In 2000 the Woman's Club transferred the deed to the building to Punta Gorda Historical Society. The building is available for rent for private functions from the Woman's Club.
