Finally someone was running around and told my travel buddy to look for an envelope in the basket. - The room: Small, kind of musty/moldy kind of vibe. The bed was small and squeaky. You need a key to turn on the electricity. Also, there is no TV! - No potable water in the room. The provided water in the carafe had mold on the lid. - Bathroom: The shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel were all filled about 1/4th of the way. The shower gel wasn't even labeled. Very little counter space for toiletries. - Breakfast: I was expecting something a little more substantial. There were papaya boats and banana bread. - No shoes inside policy. Sorry, I wasn't leaving my shoes outside the room. Rain? Bugs? Heck no! All in all, I didn't see the value for $285 for a single night. This was my first time ever staying at a BnB and I didn't feel like it was very hospitable.

From the moment I checked in, Miss Brooke, Miss Melissa, and the front desk manager ( young Caucasian man I forgot his name), were exceptionally warm, welcoming, and helpful. Their genuine aloha and professionalism made me feel very well taken care of throughout my stay. The hotel has a beautiful Hilo setting, but what really stood out to me was the service. As someone who lives in Hawaiʻi, I especially appreciate when a hotel reflects the true spirit of aloha, and I certainly felt it here. The only part I feel this hotel failed was after the power went out. Everyone wanted to hang out in the open-air lobby & converse with one another. I understand why the bar can't be open, but they forcefully herded us to our rooms around 6:30-7:00pm. I understand the locals need to go home to be with their families & drive safe but it felt like Covid all over and people telling you what you can and can't do. If we had our own beers which a lot of people did, we should've been able to hang out with others in the lobby to chat. Instead, they made us go to our rooms, which were dark with no AC. I heard they had 1 person from each department remain on the property. They could've had someone hang out in the lobby as they were probably worried about people taking from the lobby bar which is understandable. But leave an employee there so we can stay cool, keep having conversations with other guests, and enjoy the open air breeze. Left the day after the hurricane & a lot of water went thru the hotel especially in the stairwell which everyone had to use without the elevators. So yeah the hotel is a little run down but it's in a great location and I would return in a heartbeat because of their employees. Just don't play Dr. Fauci in the next hurricane & let everyone still vacation.

The sanctuary provides all the amenities you'll ever need: mini fridge, sink, bowls/plates, heater, utensils, TV, DVDs, books, plug ins, coffee maker, coffee grounds/tea, juice, milk, creamer, cream cheese and spreads for the baked goods, soap, dish wash scrub, etc. You name it, they have it. The bed was so comfortable, clean, and relaxing. I enjoyed the outside shower and hot tube! Enjoyed the nature all around us. The only downside was the WiFi connection. We were only able to get 1 bar inside the cottage. Our host was able to reset it in which worked great for awhile but returned to the same bar later that night. If we ever come back to Hawai'i, I would love to stay again!

They act like they hate their jobs and it is reflected in their attitude towards people. At check in rude and check out not nice and could care less. I turned in the wrist band door key no good morning no thank you for staying with us. I stood there she didn't even pick up the key from the counter top. Just looked me. So I turned around and left.

It is closer to the volcano and black sand beach but not much else. The biggest issue is the noise level inside. The walls are very thin and you hear nearly everything; not so much talking but footsteps and moving about. Although we might have heard snoring last night. There are also bugs that somehow get in randomly. I noticed more the next day and ants on the counter even though there was no food. Also, there is no air conditioning unless you want to pay an additional fee. Be aware the phone number listed is incorrect. I tried calling several times as we were going to be late checking in due to a tour in Kona. I googled the Sea Mountain, looked at my reservation and every number I tried led to an error message. I finally found a good number and spoke to a nice younger man who advised me what to do upon arrival. I had also emailed and messaged out of desperation without response. Good thing I found that good number. The next day we checked in at the office and spoke to an older woman who wasn't friendly and didn't seem that knowledgeable as to the sights and timing of things. Overall, it was clean and nice but probably wouldn't stay again.
