I text to set up an appointment for 6 friends and I that were on a moms getaway weekend. They responded within 24 hours and got us an appointment with only a few days notice. We ended up with 4 different artists and all walked away happy. They got us in and out way faster than we expected. My tattoo is healing nicely. Most of us got a 2nd skin wrap which was really awesome too! The location was perfect, right next to the casinos and several bars. The shop was very clean and classy. They seemed to practice good sanitation in between each tattoo as well. I hope to take my husband back to Clay one day for an awesome anime tattoo. read more

I've been coming here for years when I visit this year I picked out a tattoo that was less than 2 inches black no color literally took the artist 11 minutes to do. I was charged $180 dollars a wrote them stating I thought it was excessive they wrote back that placement behind the ear is difficult that's why it was more. Unfortunately I won't be returning. 11 minutes of work for $180 is excessive I understand set up and supplies but literally not impressed. Unfortunately. read more

I contacted Kate at South Lake Tattoo through IG and she was very responsive/kind. We talked about design, made a deposit/booked an apt then a few weeks later she sent me a sketch of the design (a few days before my apt) and did a few tweaks. She was lovely. I've been trying to find a tattoo artist that wasn't only talented but also just a good, kind, easy to talk to person. My last tattoo artist wasn't that way and it made the experience uncomfortable. I love my new tattoo and am looking forward to getting more done. Her line work is perfection. The shop is clean, bright, and welcoming. read more

I want to clarify that the resident artists are incredibly talented and hardworking. This was our sixth tattoo from this studio and we trusted them (evidently too much). Where this studio lacks is their guest artists. We walked in for two tattoos, one of which was finger tattoos and left with work so poor that it was given to us at a discount (perhaps to try and curb our impending anger). Not only was the artist unable to understand the simple design we requested, even when shown direct examples. The tattoo was left UNFINISHED because he forgot to draw a line. As he was tattooing, he asked if he could add dots without clarifying what he meant. He then added shading that had not been discussed at all during the design stage, making the stars look more like smudges on the fingers. I cannot in good faith suggest this studio for walk-ins, as it seems they will let anyone who owns a tattoo gun set up and deliver the poorest work I have ever seen come out of an established studio. read more

Brian killed it with this piece! Exactly what I wanted, while being in a clean, honest studio, with a dope Vibe! It was ensured I was comfortable throughout the session. This one has huge meaning behind it for me.. more than anyone would know. Sharing a bit of my story, Brian incorporated the idea and symbolism. Big ups to this mans hands. Skills at its finest! Visited Lake Tahoe for my best friend's wedding. We kept seeing this shop whenever we walked by it. My best friend and I knew we wanted to get tatted, so I went on Yelp to start looking through reviews. Felt like this place was legit and it was! We requested for cute ghost tattoos. My ghost is holding a knife. My best friend's ghost is holding a shovel. Her friend's ghost is holding a scythe. The one who did mine and my best friend's tattoos was Russell - super chill guy who has been tattooing for over 9 years. I am sorry but forgot the name of the other guy but he was cool too and he has been tattooing for over 13 years. This shop is definitely a go to if you want to get tattooed. Don't forget to ask for Russell! read more

I would give them a 10 Star review if there were such a score allowed. I am 70 years old and just got my first tattoo. Brian did a phenomenal job on my wrist tattoo, his insight made it so much better than I could have imagined. The process was nearly painless, too, which surprised me. Brian's artistry is so impressive and he makes his client feel so at ease. (Many of my friends are considering doing the same tattoo - it honors some special animals and friends in our lives - rescuers of "Fire Cats," after catastrophic, community-destroying fires, and the people that share their stories on film). Hmmmm. Is this a "gateway" tattoo? Are there more to come? lol. Great job South Lake Tattoo and especially, Brian. Thank you! read more

Kate is a phenomenal tattoo artist, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have found her. I contacted her through IG and she responded right away. She truly took the time to listen to my thoughts for the piece and transformed them into a unique design that exceeded my expectations. Her attention to detail, placement and overall style perfectly matched what I was looking for. She is attentive, kind and so easy to talk to. Most importantly, her love for her craft shines through in every piece she creates. Thank you, Kate! read more

Brian Thomas did my tattoo and he did an incredible job. He is extremely detailed and professional. My tattoo came out better than I imagined. It was also finished quicker than I thought it would be, which wasn't really that important, but just noting he didn't waste time. I had an amazing experience at South Lake Tattoo. The shop was nothing but pleasant from start to finish. I came in for a walk in and was able to make an appt with Taylor the following day. I was looking for an American Traditional style elbow tattoo. I was told she was my girl. She was absolutely adorable and truly talented. The finished product made me tear up with happiness. Thank you South Lake Tattoo and Taylor for an exceptional experience with you guys. See you this year for my right elbow! :) read more

I've been interested for quite some time in getting a tattoo to honor my cat that I lost last year. I found this business online and they were the first to respond to my request out of several businesses in the area. The person named Lovely, whom I was corresponding with prior to making an appointment, was extremely helpful and pleasant as I was still sorting through ideas on the type of tattoo I wanted to get. My appointment was made pretty quickly and I was grateful since most other places were booked months in advance. The artist I worked with was Ryker and he was friendly and patient, working with me on the day to make sure I was happy with the design and style before starting the tattoo itself. It's extremely sentimental to me so I wanted to make sure it would come out the way I had envisioned. It did and I am very happy with the end result! NOTE: they offer free touch-up sessions if needed by appointment. read more

I had the best tattoo experience of my life at South Lake Tattoo! A group of friends and I were in town for vacation and decided to get some small tattoos. They were able to see us as walk ins (we had called in advance). Noah was our artist, and I cannot recommend him enough. He paid attention to every detail to make sure we were 100% happy. Very reasonable prices, and he did 4 tattoos in about 45 minutes! I do recommend that you call in advance and/or make an appointment because they are in high demand--and rightly so! I called this tattoo shop to look for any last minute appointments for three people. We asked for two initials and two words and got put on a waiting list. At 6:50 p.m. Taylor, one of the artists, texted me saying "I can get you in right now if you're pretty close by". Not only was I disappointed by receiving that text and not getting a time frame as to when I should be there but we gave her a heads up saying we will be there in about 20 minutes due to where we were staying at. We were 5 minutes late (7:25 p.m.) because of a parking situation down there. As we walked into the shop, our stencils were all laid out but Taylor wasn't to be found. Another artist came out and said "How can I help you" and we said we talked to Taylor and he stated, "Taylor just left, you can find her in the parking lot, she tried to text you guys." RIDICULOUS. We did not receive any text or call from Taylor until we left and received a text saying "What's your ETA" at 7:45.. Taylor was very rude and does not care about anyone else's time. Not to mention, the customer service is horrible but the stencils were not what we asked for. *DO NOT BOOK* as the artists treat you horribly and have bad communication. What a waste of my time, do not come here you will be disappointed.. read more

i had a not good experience here for a walk in tattoo. me and my friend simply wanted two SMALL butterfly tattoos, simple line work and very minimalistic. i sent the owner or someone a picture of what we wanted and they told us to come down. i asked how much they base their walk in tats off of and they said for something small like this, it would be around $100. we get there and the girl had drawn them up for us. we liked the smallest one she drew and she said it was going to be $120 each. we bit our tongues and just went with it for the memories. now for the actual tattoo, it looks terrible. the lines are heavy, the shading is so inconsistent, and it looks like a child drew on my wrist. -not to mention, the girl artist failed to tell us she was an apprentice until after mine was done and in the middle of my friend getting hers done. if we had known this, we would've walked out before she started tattooing us. when we went up to pay, she told us it would be $140 for each instead of $120 for each. now, i am going to have to search for an artist who can cover this tattoo up because it is horrific. seriously a bad experience. save yourself and don't go to the apprentice. read more

My boyfriend and I came in just being adventurous and wanting to get a small couples tattoo. We did a K and Q initial tattoos. When we asked the price they said their minimum was $100 but after the girl drew everything up, mine was $120 and his was $140. We cringed at the price cause in my local city, this tattoo would had cost no more than $50. I honestly don't know why we agreed. After she added the stencil, I agreed and started tattooing, she only then mentioned that the line work wouldn't be perfect as it's a tiny tattoo and Regardless of the artist, tiny tattoos don't keep its shape... I said, sayy what! I've seen excellent tiny tattoos, why are only yours an issue? She mentioned it's not just her, it's going to happen to all tiny tattoos... I was instantly disappointed . Well, here I am, a year later left with this piece of shit. Save your money and go to real artist. This place is over priced simply because of its location. read more
