Ka'awa Loa Plantation - This place is fantastic, definitely will come back and tell all our friends about it

There was coffee cake for afternoon tea when I got there. The porch is the best part of this place. It overlooks the mountain with a great view of the water and forests below. Breakfast was nice since it came with avocado, cut papaya, a piece of breakfast cake and smoothie as well as tea/coffee. I did like meeting the geckos that look like the GEICO gecko during breakfast who were wanting fruit. Cons: there's no AC. Also I was woken up by I think a rooster at 5 am. They do try to space out people getting breakfast so you can't rush in at 730 am for food.

Roads are severely dark that you cannot differentiate between driving/reversing onto road or out to sea *yikes*. Once you finally arrive at your destination, keep on driving up the hill until you reach the end. Don't forget, it is crazy dark outside, don't be alarmed by the sounds of nature. You'll park to the side next to the other 4 cars by the garage (not into it) and quietly find directions on a pin with your name on it. Come quietly inside as you make your way to the room. If you survive the night (which, you will), you'll find yourself on what looks like heaven; beautiful oceanview windows overlooking the bay. When you come down, you'll be greeted by the sweetest angel, Hannah. You'll find her in the kitchen in the morning making an all you can eat breakfast. Don't be rude! Say hello, grab a coffee, make your way to the patio and find a table. Hannah will let you know when all is ready based on first-out on the patio. When asked what was my favorite meal in Hawaii, hands down, I say Hannah's breakfast. She made delicious Banana Nut Waffles topped with macadamia nuts tossed in coconut oil and syrup. In addition, she's boiled eggs, cooked turkey bacon, and has sliced up fresh tropical fruits. Don't forget to try her freshly made smoothies made with guava YUMMMM!!!

Barbara and her team are lovely to be around and make you feel like you are a part of their community for a few days, rather than just "guests." The amenities are wonderful, the beds super comfortable, and the atmosphere is one of pure peace and belonging. Add to that the beautiful symphony of singing frogs, wind chimes, and rainforest sounds and it is about as perfect as you can imagine. We loved having access to the outdoor communal kitchen--with all the amenities that a great cook could want, and it was a welcome treat to enter the new year with a centering walk around the illuminarium maze, letting go of the things that have stopped serving us and embracing our intentions for the year to come. I can't recommend this enough as an out-of-the-ordinary Big Island experience.

Barbara has poured her heart and soul into this sacred location and it definitely was one of the most special places I have visited in my life. There is a community kitchen and wonderful, friendly people to be around, yet my privacy was also respected, which I appreciated. The morning breakfast was lovely, with a lovely variety of organic food to eat. Barbara arranged a massage for me with her friend Halia, which was incredibly relaxing. I stayed in the Lomi Lomi room and loved the view for sunrise and sunset. The huge tub was enjoyed as well! I definitely recommend this lovely place and hope to return to visit it! The value was great and the rooms were clean. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

After we arrived we found out there are cats which I'm allergic to. But I figured I would just avoid them and we would be gone most of the time anyway. Then we began to notice bugs. The lizards didn't particularly bother us, but there were millipedes everywhere. Dozens dead behind the bed, and in the corner of the bathroom. Live millipedes under the bathroom counter on the floor and crawling on the walls. Spiders near the AC. And we were getting bit by something in the middle of the night. We tried to stick it out, but after the 2nd day we just couldn't take it. I let the manager of the property know and she was very kind about it. But the owner would not give us any money back for the 3 unused nights, not even a partial refund. I was very disappointed. If you are considering booking here. Just don't. Not worth it.

So convenient for me because all my family was in the captain cook area, but it is like a 20 minute drive to town (ali'i dr.) Words cant even come close to describing the beauty of this location and pictures can't do justice. The owner was amazing, so welcoming and made us feel right at home. Definitely gonna stay here more although I already have a home there, my new staycation Hands down if you love scenery and island life this will be heaven on heaven for you.

"Then take your advertising off the web, little man," I wanted to reply. I don't know how long this company has been in business, but only 7 reviewed says something. Let my review guide you to go elsewhere. Meanwhile, it was kind of funny, actually, as I filmed a little FB video heading up the road to the plantation while here in Kona and a few other islands to ring in my 60th, looking for places I might enjoy experiencing or staying longer within. The first warning was turning up a road that lacked Hawaiian heritage in name. Albeit, a charming experience until the road began to get delapidated, and I started joking on the video that the surroundings were becoming a bit more out of "Deliverance" than charming, and warned that if I was murdered, that at least my peeps knew where it happened. As a gay man seeking to support other businesses run by the LGBTQ community, I know this isn't one of them.

I passed many happy hours out there, soaking in the fresh air, taking pictures, and cracking fresh macadamia nuts. We stayed in the Hula room at the far end of the house. The bathroom was private and stocked with basic amenities, and the bed was perfectly comfortable. We could sit there and stare out the screen door at the distant water below. Thomas and Sharon were gracious hosts. They were most always nearby if we had questions, but they also granted us space and privacy. And the breakfasts....! Our two mornings there were among the highlights of our trip to Hawaii. We sat on the lanai and dined on fresh baked goods and a wide assortment of fruits, many from their property. I'm now totally spoiled by the massive avocados that they grow. One thing of note about the area: South Kona features a lot of narrow, winding roads tucked along the long slope to the ocean, and there are some steep driveways and roads. Keep this in mind when you rent a car on the Big Island. Whenever I get the chance to return to Hawaii, I hope to stay at the Kona Bayview Inn again. It was, by far, the favorite place at which we stayed during our trip.

Great place to stay...love it!…read more We stayed at the Kona Bayview Inn for a week and it exceeded our expectations! Thomas and Sharon were really great hosts and are such nice people who truly aim to please! The breakfasts were amazing...every morning they served something different and delicious and there was never a shortage of food! There was always something homemade, hot and yummy and lots of fresh island fruits, many of which were grown on their property. There was Kona coffee (my husband is a big Kona coffee fan and loved this!), a nice selection of island fruit teas and fresh juices, and often they served homemade bread with freshly made preserves. I can't say enough about how great the breakfasts were...we looked forward to them every morning! We miss them! We stayed in the Honu room and our room was clean, tastefully decorated, and had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and we enjoyed leaving our windows open at night so we could fall asleep listening to the sounds of nature! There were some things available to us in our room which you typically don't have available to you at other places like a cooler, beach bag, beach mat, beach towels and a clothes hanger for drying your clothes outside; and this was really nice! They also gave us snorkel gear and beach chairs to use; and we enjoyed snorkeling at some really great nearby spots. Thomas and Sharon were always so helpful and accommodating and offered wonderful suggestions for restaurants and places to visit in the area! The Kona Bayview Inn turned out to be exactly the type of place we were looking for as we needed some relaxation time. We took some time to just sit and read and enjoy the beautiful views. We also explored the beautiful property. We also really enjoyed the fantastic sunsets over Kealakekua Bay. This area is very tropical and peaceful; but yet you are not too far from some really great dining spots and town. I really recommend this place and we definitely plan to stay here again...it's such a lovely place!

Svetlana's incredible breakfast with fresh organic farm fruit and eggs will not arrive to my home table at 7:55 am. 3. I forgot to buy her lilikoi butter before I left. Now what do I do? 4. I'm constantly planning my next trip back. These are serious regrets that I will have to discuss with Lee and Svetlana during my next visit. They work incredibly hard to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Think of this stay as staying with your aunt and uncle. They will feed you, help you, and make you feel so loved. Breakfast is too good to be true. Everything Svetlana makes is a long journey that arrives to your plate casually like it's no big deal. Her macadamia nut butter will haunt my dreams. The Kohola Room has the breath-taking room. Sunsets while tucked into the comfortable framed bed is a luxury I cannot describe. The drive up to the house is rough but that's the only tough part of this stay. You'll be on a farm in Hawaii--that's the cool part. You will hear birds, frogs, and the cow songs. Skip the boring resort stay and enjoy the real beauty of Big Island.
