We decided to have the exterior of our cottage painted. We had called in six contractors. Stu…read morepresented a very competitive bid. The differentiator for us was that Stu was the only contractor who pointed out concerns that nobody else did, that would have been missed or would have become change orders which I hate. Being that my husband is a mechanical contractor , he is very aware of a lot of the tricks of the trade. Stu also is quite creative and my wife and Stu made some additional improvements which have had a great impact on the value of our cottage. We were very comfortable with Stu and his AMS team that we left him full access to our cottage. For us communication is key and Stu readily responds to his phone, texts and emails. At times I am a bit pushy, well more then pushy , and I did appreciate Stu's tolerance. Stu is not a yes man, and was not afraid to challenge me at times, in a polite manner of course and I found this very helpful to ensure the right work was performed. Finally, Stu was integral in the 9/11 evacuation , read his website, that hit home for me, as I lost many associates and two employees that fateful day. Stu gets 5 donuts out of 5 from my husband. From me i guess it would 5 out of 5 carrots! I stole that from Mike Golic on MIke and Mike of ESPN. Well Done Stu and the AMS team! The second floor hopefully we will add in a year or so Stu so get ready. :)

I hired GODOY Driveway Company to redo the driveway at my small East Hampton cottage. Their…read moreportfolio looked beautiful, and although their price was extremely high (around $30,000), I decided to move forward hoping for quality work that would last. While the steel edging for the gravel area was done nicely, I was surprised to be charged an extra $1,200 just to sink the existing Belgian block to match the new ones. That should have been included in the original price -- it made no sense to leave half the driveway uneven. Communication was also very difficult. None of the workers spoke English, so I couldn't communicate simple requests, like asking them not to urinate in my bushes. They cut stone directly in front of my new gate, coating everything in dust and never hosed it off. At the end of the job, I requested a few stepping stones to connect the front steps -- a small addition. They charged another $2,700 for just a handful of stones that were roughly placed directly into the soil. When I pointed out the scratches and poor workmanship, the owner refused to come see it and dismissed my concerns, saying "they are natural stones." When I asked again for him to come inspect the work, he became aggressive and threatened me -- saying that if I kept complaining, he would destroy my house and "rip up my front yard to make a mud pond for my kids." His tone was violent and unprofessional. I felt unsafe and contacted the police to make a report. This has been the most unprofessional and upsetting experience I've ever had with a contractor. The owner is largely absent, overcharges for basic work, and becomes hostile when questioned. I strongly caution anyone considering GODOY Driveway Company. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau to help protect other families from going through this.
