I would like to thank the official who took my finger prints today. Even though I had no…read moreappointment, he understood that my company requested me to interpreter to FEMA and I needed to fill up a series for documents. I wish him all the best for his attention and also his respect for this kind of service, specially at this moment.

Such a quest for saving 5 dollars?!…read more Well as you may already know from all my previous Yelp entries, I am a bit of a cheap skate and penny pincher when it comes to getting things that I would hope to get free, so after checking several fingerprinting places, I decided to go to the Coral Gables Police Station for fingerprints because 1) they charge only $15, compared to the $20 price tag to have your fingerprints done at an independent place like Fingerprint Technologies. 2) They are also a five minute walk from my job, so what is the educated consumer supposed to do, just go there. I call beforehand on Monday, and I am greeted by a friendly operator who tells me that their fingerprint stand is open Wednesday to Thursday (it may have been Friday) from 8 am-5 pm. Only open 2 days a week?! The economy must be taking its toll. Still being a cheapskate, I wait until Wednesday because I want to save $5. Wednesday comes. I take a five minute walk, and I am greeted by their friendly staff members. "Cash only please!" What?! I was not told this before, so I asked if I could give them a check, and they gladly oblige. Good thing I brought my checkbook with me today. They tell me to wash my hands, and a lady does my fingerprints and answers my questions. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Since I have very defined fingerprints, they told me to hold onto my receipt, so that if they don't accept my fingerprints, they can do it again for free. Huge plus. Pros: Friendly staff! Cons: I wish they were open more days. Tips: Bring cash! Call before arriving. Be nice.

Ok so it doesn't have the bright and airy feel like we saw in the police station in Bad Boys 2…read more Instead of "grape soda and chicken wings" some of the officers enjoyed pastelitos. I don't know if they have a basketball court like in the original "Bad Boys" (which was filmed in the actual Miami Civil Courthouse). But I did run into the officers on the social media unit who had noticed sone of my insta posts. The building itself features the modular look and heavy concrete highlights of the brutalist architecture, a typical design of institutional and governmental buildings. The inside is a regular office building with conference rooms and department offices. As far as fingerprinting, I went through the metal detector and photographed for a visitor pass. I then went to cashier; paid $10 in cash and waited for the officer. Pleasant but functional, he took my License, filled in the form, and inked my hands to mark up the professional license application. How did I get hands clean? They have industrial strength degreaser and towels to clean up after. I was given the form and off I went. I could ding a star because I had to get print the form and that it's all cash but everyone at the station was courteous and helpful.

The SVU department failed today. An individual came forward to speak with the department about a…read moresensitive situation but was too afraid to fully share their experience out of fear that no one would believe their truth. Instead of feeling supported, they were made to feel as though they were not a victim but a criminal -- and, in the words of the officer, a liar. This person has already endured enough, and the way they were treated only reinforced the harmful idea that they are at fault. I do not believe the department can make a fair or accurate determination without conducting a proper investigation, thoroughly reviewing all reports, and carefully analyzing the information provided. Only then can an appropriate decision be made regarding this case. Additionally, the officer searched their cell phone without the consent of a guardian, provided no name, badge number, or card, and left me sitting there for over five hours. This was the worst experience I have ever had with a police department, and I now understand why others feel the same. I will pursue this further because I believe the individual's account is true.
