Attended Easter Sunday Brunch. Beautiful setting. Took hostess 4-5 minutes to return after sitting previous in line party. After eating our salad appetizer course, we both left the table. Table was cleared of utensils and drinks, like we were gone, including all staff disappeared. It was less than 30 minutes after being seated. Selection of food was minimal. 3 breakfast items. A few proteins. Lobster pasta tasted burnt! No lobster in either of our scoops. A 1x1" piece of filet. Ham was dry. EVERYTHING tasted as if prepared for 11 am sitting. We chose the 3rd sitting at 2:30. Nothing was fresh, just gluey or dried out food. DO BETTER FOR $75 Per person. read more

A wonderful place to relax on a Saturday night! The Cream of the Crop Cafe has an incredible location on the South Eden Plantation that can't be beat in the Tallahassee/Thomasville area, with food and wine to match! I try to regularly pop into the South Eden Plantation, especially in the fall and on one of their live music nights. The wine menu is extensive and all available by the glass, which may make the decision-making process more difficult, but you'll always end up with a good wine. I eventually made up my mind with the old vine zinfandel followed by a glass of sangria, paired with the delicious cheese platter. With those hard decisions over, I could sit back, sip on my wine, and listen to some music, while the cicadas played their own music in the trees. It is always a pleasant experience at the Cream of the Crop Cafe and I can't wait to visit again for some more front porch sitting. read more

My fiance and I attended a mutual friends wedding last weekend. The property has lots of potential to be mesmerizing. If it was maintained properly. The grass was overgrown. Some lady who I thought was housekeeping thought it was a good idea to blow off a dirt driveway while we took photos? Many of the wood structures are rotting, and they need repairs done. The ceremony itself was great. The only issue was the service. The entire staff was acting like it was the first day working an event. It was a mess and hard to watch, and the lady I thought was part of the housekeeping? Turns out that was the owner. Kim. She was hostile and rude the entire dinner service. Yelling at her staff and on one occasion grabbing a staff member by the arm. It is not professional to do in front of the guest or in private, definitely not legal. I do not recommend supporting such a hostile business owner. I feel really bad for her staff and for the bride. The only positive thing I can say about South Eden is that the food was somehow done very well, considering the other areas of the property were poorly managed.Some of the best braised brisket I've had. At least the people in the kitchen know how to do a good job. If the owner(Kim) reads this. Do better and treat your staff like human beings and not just the help. Your staff is the most valuable part of your poorly managed business. read more

This is a beautiful plantation off Thomasville Road in Georgia. They have event space, a restaurant, a cafe, and more coming (spa, exercise/yoga, gift shop, events). The renovated buildings have a cool mix of old and modern with lots of original features. The entire place has great style and my friends and I were very impressed. Wonderful place to walk around, have a meal, hold an event or get away for a romantic weekend! The food and pastries were really delicious. The day we visited there was a shower and it was busy, our service was pleasant but a little slow. I think they are hiring more people as volume grows, they just opened in January I believe. They have about 23 overnight accommodations, each room is for two guests. There is an Indoor heated pool dating back to the 1930s. Also the Showboat theater is a gorgeous hall which held the first private showing of Gone with the Wind (google it for articles!) This would be a gorgeous place for a wedding or special event. Kimberly English from marketing was very helpful and gave us a great free tour. Spa services, yoga, exercise, and gift shop coming soon. read more

Very disappointing experience. My in-laws made a reservation before the holidays for 15 of us to dine here for a day or two after Christmas. We drive in from Tallahassee and roll up in our three SUVs only to find out that not only do we not have a reservation... but the entire restaurant is CLOSED for the day. How on earth do you take a reservation for this many people without making sure you're open? And if you take a reservation in error, you need to call back and take care of the situation! If you read through the other reviews like I did, you can see that inconsistency is a major issue here. read more

I attended a dear friend's wedding at the South Eden plantation in November. The property itself is absolutely beautiful. The wedding ceremony was wonderful, most of the staff was very friendly and u can tell they work hard and take pride in creating a beautiful event, and the food was absolutely amazing (huge complements to the chef)! However, I was very disappointed to see how disrespectful the owner, Kim, handled certain situations. During the wedding reception, there was a disagreement between her and the wedding planner, which escalated into her (Kim) yelling at the wedding planner. This was completely inappropriate and it all happened in front of the wedding party, friends, and family. I just feel that as the owner of the plantation, making such a scene is very unprofessional. There is a professional way to handle business and customer service, and that's definitely not it. To the owner Kim, if you read these reviews: Do better. read more

worked in the kitchen there as a culinary assistant for a month but they just fired all of us because they don't know how to keep up with portion control; management leaves a lot to be desired and they'll make you work under the table until they don't need you anymore then they'll fire you because of a mistake they made. i'd give this place less stars if i could, but the fact that it's a plantation should tell you all that you need to know, that is, if you're a person of color. read more

Considered it for a wedding venue it is gorgeous. Management couldn't/wouldn't give prices to compare with other venues. Were not easy to work with even for engagement photos. Could not get on the property until 11. Evening had an event but they couldn't let us know until late the day before. Couple is military and from out of town that came in town for engagement photos. I went today with a friend for lunch at the cafe. What an experience! We had the most amazing service, great food and outstanding surroundings. Once we finished eating, we toured the grounds, rooms and facilities. I can say that we were blown away! I can't wait to book a weekend with the hubby. They have fine dining experiences, one-of-a-kind rooms, cottages, pool, jacuzzi, wi-fi, a bar and so much more. Just a walk around the property is worth the trip. The South Eden Plantation is the epitome of Southern elegance, charm, and hospitality. The kind and genial Ms. Kim and her family gave shelter to my family, our 4 dogs, two cats and I during our evacuation from Florida during hurricane Irma. When we could find no place to go we stumbled upon what my father still calls "heaven." The plantation is aptly named. The grounds are exquisite, with horse stables, beautiful moss and light strung trees, and green lawns and fountains that go on for days. The pool was my favorite amenity; it was situated in a quaint, ivy-speckled brick greenhouse with hanging chandeliers and a fire place. You feel like the last person in the world while you float with fanciful light fixtures lit and jazz playing in the background. The Cream of the Crop cafe is absolutely delectable. The merlot meatballs with goat cheese are to die for. Pairs beautifully with their homemade red sangria. read more

The venue is beautiful and there is a nice selection of wines. If you can get someone to bring you the main menu, there are some nice sandwiches and appetizers. But on a Saturday night with a live (mediocre) band, they have two servers to cover over 100 people...one server for the 12-15 outside tables and one server for the same number on the screened in patio. Table service is somehow slow and rushed at the same time - takes forever to get a server and they're so busy. We didn't get any food because we never got a menu besides the BBQ specials. The Cream of the Crop Cafe review: The grounds and buildings were beautiful. It had a nice atmosphere. The menu didn't offer very much (mostly sandwiches) and was a bit pricey. When taking drink orders, my waitress somehow missed me. It took a while for our sandwiches to come out and it was not a busy night. The pulled pork sandwich was delicious. It was a little confusing as to where we were supposed to go, especially at night. More signage would be very helpful. I think this place has a ton of potential, but it fell a little short for me. I would like to come during the day and be able to appreciate the rest of the property. Conclusion: nice facilities, limited and pricey menu, good pork sandwich, less attentive staff read more

Cream of the Crop review: I've been out there a few times now and up until this last Saturday I've been somewhat pleased. HORRIBLE service was what we received. We had a reservation for a group of 14 sit outside and only 4 people ordered food. My girlfriend and I ordered pork sliders and a pork panini which took about an hour to come out. Finally, when we asked for the checks both my girlfriend and I were given separate bills with the sliders and panini listed on each bill. We were obviously together on one bill. The waitress got an attitude with us when we tried to explain this and then went on to charge my girlfriends card twice. Once for the amount that we actually owed them, and then once again for the ticket they wrongfully gave me. Pretty sure that's illegal to just run a card for a bill that shouldn't have even been created, after the card owner has already paid and left. I've never once in my life not paid for something I bought or consumed and the waitress made us feel like we were trying to walk out on our tab without paying. Like I said, then once we left she ran my girlfriends card for the ticket they gave me. I say all that to say this, make your own choice on going out there because the grounds are absolutely stunning but the service we received Saturday night on January 13th was one of the worst experiences I've ever had anywhere. read more

The grounds and atmosphere are beautiful but the service has been awful recently. Me and my husband live nearby and have visited several times since March. The first several times we dined in the main house were excellent. Only the bar has been open on weekend nights, but it's fabulous and the staff was as well. However, the past two weekends this May we were extremely disappointed by the change in staff. The "bartender" was slow, rude, uncomfortable and completely changed the atmosphere. The cafe is ok but nothing special. We thought we had found our new hangout but I wouldn't be back anytime soon. Hopefully they can take care of the customer service problems. As of now, I would only recommend visiting to look around the property. read more

Impeccably decorated, comfortable bedding, extremely clean and comfortable. Staff is amazing, cater to your every need. We were welcomed with a coffee bar and fresh muffins. My husband & I were married here 10 years ago when it was Melhana Plantation. We would always ride by saying we would like to go back & stay on our 10 year anniversary. I am so thankful to see that is even more breath taking than it was 10 years ago. We had dinner at the chefs table inside Scarlets. Every course was amazing & service was wonderful. So I went in Sunday with my mom and we both got Food poisoning from your resteraunt I got diaria as soon As I finished my meal I had to go home in crapped pants and the way they served the food was disgusting and you could not even tell how sanitary every thing was I feel like the price was too high too So I recemending my enemy to come and eat here cause thats how vile I think this food is lets let him have food poisiing LOL but serriously your food is horrible and I am never eating here again why coundlt you have more selection and more one portion meals not your slop I had better in Jail and at least I was never food poisoned in there so if I had to choose between your food and prison food I choose prison so good luck making better food but I will never return the desert was alright but the rest really sucked read more

Faulty Towers of Thomasville. Beautiful grounds, so much potential and clueless management. We stayed with several friends and each of us had tales of woe - lack of hot water in one cottage, phones not working, impossible to find someone to check in, and although it was completely full, no breakfast offered on Sunday morning! Our upstairs cottage room had tiny, floor level half moon windows, giving the feeling of a basement room - no windows in the bathroom. We transferred to the main house where our en suite bathroom was down the hall past another bedroom. It took repeated requests before bathrobes appeared. Beds and linens are beautiful but rooms are all very different so be careful when you book. Some rooms are gorgeous, some tiny and dark. Our entire party got bumped by a wedding and then were rebooked when the wedding party didn't take up all the rooms, so have a back up reservation somewhere else. Overall, this could be an amazing experience, but needs a good manager who knows what it takes to manage a plantation hotel like this one. Be prepared for a Faulty Towers experience. My husband and I visit Thomasville every few weeks as he had a hunting lease in the area and we love the Downtown area. We decide to make a weekend out of it and book the Plantation. I was pleasantly surprised, it was amazing. Good was amazing, service was unbelievably friendly. While they are still trying to work out the "kinks" of being open a short period of time, the atmosphere, beautifully decorated rooms and comforts of an upscale boutique resort making it an amazing stay. We will defiantly return! read more
