Southbay Bathtub Refinishers - Broken towel holder

Southbay Bathtub Refinishers

My experience with Southbay Bathtub Refinishers was horrible…read more I live in an apartment at Camino Bernardo Villas. They have Southbay Bathtub Refinishers, as their bathtub refinisher, etc., so I had no choice in who was coming to refinish the bathtub. On February 24, 2024, Southbay Bathtub Refinishers were scheduled to refinish my apartment bathtub for the second time since November 2022. However, they never showed up and didn't call for 7.5 hours at which point they claimed that they had car trouble. February 24, 2024, was the 10th anniversary of my daughter's passing and friends and family were visiting her gravesite... a perfect day to be out of the house and see how my daughter's friends grew up, see family, etc. However, I missed seeing those who showed up to pay their respect... she passed away from cancer at age 19. On March 9, 2024, the same technician that messed up the tub in November 2022 showed up and messed up the tub again... whereas there were pointy things sticking up out of the paint on the bottom of the tub... and he dropped drops of chemical on the carpet, staining it. On March 14, 2024, Southbay Bathtub Refinishers sent a 19 yr. old "M" (said he was the supervisor) to inspect and refinish the tub AGAIN. "M" not only screwed up the tub again, but he also painted some of the wall and broke the towel rack/holder on the wall. I am totally and permanently disabled veteran. When the tub is refinished, I must leave the apartment for up to 6 hours as the odor of the paint is overwhelming. It's not easy finding a place to go for 6 hours when you have the disabilities I have. I filed a Small Claims against Camino Bernardo Villas for the time I lost as well as the emotional distress for missing those who showed up to pay their respect to my daughter. The hearing was scheduled for August 20, 2024. On this date, the owner of Southbay Bathtub Refinishers "RP" showed up to testify on behalf of Camino Bernardo Villas. However, the hearing was postponed until August 23, 2024, and this time, RP didn't show up, instead, the Operations Manager (according to BBB) "LA" showed up and testified. LA testified under oath that her technician car broke down and that he was unable to reach her by phone because she was in Mexico at a hospital with her sick mother. She also said that her technician is not allowed to call the client (even though the client provides them with the keys to the apartments) which makes zero sense, even more so when he allegedly couldn't reach LA. In fact, "M" provided me with his cell number, and told me to call him anytime I had issues with his work. I don't know if the number he provided me is legit or not as I never called him. LA even went so far as to claim that I was hard to work with (always waiting on the landing until the job was done to lock up my apartment) and that may have been the cause of their technicians messing up the bathtub, etc. Camino Bernardo Villas submitted a letter (evidence) to me and the Court that was provided to them by LA, dated April 5, 2024, (6 weeks post missed 2-24-24 appointment and 3 weeks post Camino Bernardo Villas being served the Small Claims) and NOWHERE in LA's letter does it say that she was in Mexico visiting her sick mother in a hospital and had poor phone connection. As you can see from LA's 4-5-24 letter, she said "our technician assigned to OCCUPIED UNITS encountered unexpected car trouble". Allegedly, there were two technicians that were supposed to arrive... one for unoccupied units and one for occupied units. Conveniently, the one who did arrive at 9:00am was the technician for the unoccupied units. During the Small Claims trial, in addition to learning that LA was somewhere in Mexico, visiting her mother in a hospital, I learned that, although my unit was listed first (5 bathtubs were to be refinished on this day - 3 unoccupied and 2 occupied units) to have the bathtub refinished, only 1 of the 5 bathtubs scheduled to be refinished, was actually refinished... meaning that the technician who showed up at 9:00 am, left after completing just 1 unoccupied bathtub. After reading my experiences above, I'll let you judge whether or not Southbay Bathtub Refinishers missed appointment was due to car trouble and if LA was really in Mexico visiting her mother in a hospital with poor phone connection. You can also judge for your self if having to return to refinish the bath tub three times, staining the carpet, painting the wall and breaking the towel holder was my fault. Photos for your viewing. Things happen I understand. I got a quote back and all seemed fine. I wanted to look at the colors to make sure i was going with the right choice, since they may have to order it. I asked the estimator 3 times to take a photo of the pallete she showed me so that I could finialize. She didn't respond to my first email. Said her email to me was deleted when I called. And never responded to my third email tell her i wanted to pick a color and schedule.

I was referred to Mark at Rancho Hardwood in 2021 to refinish wood floors in a 1950's home I…read morebought. Mark was very personable and met me at the home as I discussed prices regarding whether it was better to just put carpet down or a vinyl plank floor. There were some dark stains that appeared to be past pet urine on the wood floor and general scratches, however he encouraged me that the floors still had life in them to sand and seal if I wanted to keep the wood floor look for the home and that it was comparable to putting in other flooring. I liked the idea of keeping the wood floors event though they would not be perfect since it was going to be a rental. I then contacted Mark about 4 years later for a home I bought in Julian, Ca. Julian is about an hour away from downtown San Diego and I know contractors often do not want to make the drive out to the mountain town. I was surprised when I called Mark that he said he was actually working on a job in Julian at one of the local Apple Pie restaraunts and that he could go by the home and give me a quote the next day. Once again, he discussed the pros and cons of what he could do and I opted to have hime sand or scuff the floors, make some repairs, and install some new wood where there was an old parkay style floor that did not match. I had three different types of wood, and one was "engineered" wood, so he explained how he would refinish each one. I was able to pay by credit card, and he was quick to send me an invoice when I asked him for a change order to add a little more work on the wood stairs. He meet me in person when he was done with his son and explained what he had done and the products he used and how I could maintain the floor over time. I would recommend Mark and his son for anyone that needs to have their hardwood floors refinished. Jason Kardos

They did an amazing job - so happy with the results! Mark, Nate and the rest of the crew are very pleasant to work with and kept us informed throughout the entire process. The price was reasonable based on the work performed. We highly recommend them!
