I have tried diet programs before such as Nutrisystems. I thought South Beach would be a good program. I can only say that I was hugely disappointed in the foods. I chose Chef's Choice for y first shipment, thinking's that the wisest. What a disappointment. The foods were terrible with the exception of the shakes. A total waste of money. Wow lots of brutal 1 star reviews! Some are understandable but here's why it's been good for me so far: First of all, I am dropping some lbs. Low carb has always worked for me. Second, I'm too busy, or to be more honest, lazy to make my own meals every day, so I like coming home and being able to grab a SB item which is easy to prepare and not much thinking or effort- except for steaming some veggies or throwing some salad in a bowl. And while we're on the subject of veggies and salad, I noticed some were saying that they don't get enough to eat with the SB diet but the point is to add fresh food along with it instead of relying on it alone. Here's a tip that helps me: I found that most of the entrees are kinda "saucy" which is a perfect companion for steamed veggies. So, while I am heating up my entrée, I throw some baby cauliflower or broccoli florets into my little steamer (bonus tip-my little steamer is actually for making 6 hard boiled eggs but turns out to be the perfect size for a portion of veggies and takes only about 5 min) and then I pour the entrée over the top...yum! I've even done sliced Portabello mushrooms as a "filler" to add more volume to some of the meals. And as a result, I am not hungry at all and I am finally eating veggies again...lots of 'em! If you knew me you'd be impressed. I have also rediscovered having a cup of tea when I feel like eating at night. It usually does the trick and is a nice way for me to relax and slow down instead of mindlessly stuffing my face. Aside from a few items, I don't find the food to be bad at all. You will find what you like and don't like. The Sausage & Peppers is one of my favs as well as the Campfire Beef and Beans or- try the Cheeseburger Soup poured over steamed broccoli or - have one of their breakfast sandwiches open-faced (I save the top bun for the next day) with some asparagus or spinach and add a poached egg, letting the gooey yolk ooze over it. The next day I have the other side of the bun with more asparagus or spinach, and another egg. This way I reduce the amount of carbs, and bump up my protein intake and I get two breakfasts out of one sandwich! Or if you're having one of the pizzas, throw a little salad in a bowl to go with it. Believe me, you don't have to "starve" on SB and you can always do a shake if you're just super hungry...they're filling and not too many calories. Don't give up - just get creative and make it work for you. Finally, as far as the cost of SB- I am spending about $350/month on it but I was spending that amount anyway, and on food that wasn't good for me and that was also making me fat. I've only been doing this diet for 4 days. The food tastes better than other plans I've tried. However, I only wanted to do it for a month, to kick start my program. There was an option for an autoship program, or a one month program. I chose the one month. Then I got a call that my "next shipment" would be shipping soon. I called customer service to ask them to discontinue the autoship, since I never asked for it in the first place. The customer service agent kept trying to get me to continue, said there's an "a la carte" option, blah blah blah. But since they already were trying to force autoship on me, now I don't trust them. I had to say about 5 times that I wanted to cancel any further shipments. Finally she agreed that she had cancelled it but told me that there is a cancellation fee of $125 !!!!!! Can you believe that bulls*** /?????? What a scam. It doesn't cost them anything to cancel a plan. My next shipment wouldn't be due for several weeks. Unfortunately, this is the trouble with many things that you sign up for on line. They just sign you up for things you haven't ordered. Horrible food; dishonest/horrible customer service. Try any other plan, but not this one. I decided to try the pre-packaged/frozen foods by South Beach Diet because I had success with the program decades ago. BIG mistake! I received my order. I had one meal and knew this was a bad choice. I tried another HOPING it would even remotely reflect the picture on the box. The quantity was not for an adult (whether you are trying to lose weight or not), nor for human consumption. I called Customer Service wanting to cancel my next order. I was told that I could not cancel without a $125 charge. I had no idea that was part of my plan, as it is not clearly identified when I placed my initial order, otherwise, I would have NEVER tried it out. "Joe", the rep, told me he could alter my order so it cost only $159 the next time, so I would not be penalized, but he could not cancel without the charge. I accepted it -- for the moment. I knew Joe couldn't do more. He was going by the script. I had another meal- which my friend who walked in to see the "chili", literally asked if it was dog food, compared to the nice beef chunk depicted on the picture. It was inedible. I took pictures of the actual food compared to the box and sent my concerns/complaint to Customer Service. I told them that I was horrified by the food. It is not supposed to be a starvation diet and they could not be serious about this as a "diet". I included the three pictures of the three "dinners" I had for their viewing and asked them how they thought this even remotely represented their product. I told them I understood that they hired a professional food photographer and know that it could not be exact, but this was not anything even close. I had loved following the book-based eating plan so hoped I would love this service. Top 5 reasons I hate it. 1) Ever since I started it 4 days ago, I have had to run to the bathroom with stomach issues more times than I can count. 2) Their non-frozen "fresh entrees" including Italian meatballs are served in small squeezable packages that remind me of tuna or go-gurt. 3) While they make it sound like their food is fresh, they send you an entire month's worth of frozen food at once! My poor roommate has not an inch of space for his freezer food. 4) The entrees contain just 200 calories on average and some as few as 160 calories. Yes, I'm trying to lose weight. No I'm not trying to starve. 5) They use small print to tell you that if you cancel after 1 month you STILL have to pay a $150 delivery fee for month 2- even if you don't want more food. UPDATED REVIEW: I have been on again, off again on this diet (I follow it loosely when I don't eat their prepackaged meals). I was doing the auto delivery plans after purchasing gift cards from Costco where you get $100 worth of food for $60 which is a bargain. Yes, you supplement the breakfast,lunch, and dinner with additional items like vegetables, eggs, dairy, etc which I figured and didn't mind. The snacks were actually good value compared to individually packaged things from the grocery store. My problem is that they are dishonest in their advertising and deliberately omit information that they should legally have to list. I got an email earlier tonight that there was a 50% off sale on all a la carte entrees due to President's Day. No mention in the ad regarding when it expires. Their website listed the ad as well and likewise, no mention on when the promo ends (this might not sound like a big deal to most people but when you are in California, the time difference can make the difference in getting a promo or not getting a promo). Right when I selected my entrees, the promo changed to just getting free shipping!!! I couldn't believe it. Anytime I have seen promos like this for different companies they list the date and time that things expire. Not South Beach. I canceled my auto delivery and have like $250 left over in gift cards. If South Beach doesn't try to make this right (I messaged them about this), they lost me as a customer and I will just sell my gift cards on Ebay or Craigslist. In any case the diet itself is easy enough to recreate doing yourself (it was convenient for me, but the pissed me off to the point where I'm done). If I could give this company zero stars, I would. I have been a fan of the original South Beach diet for 10 or more years. It is healthy and works for weight loss, but meal preparation can be labor intensive. When I saw that the diet was available as a convenient delivery service, I didn't hesitate to sign up. I use services like plated and Hello Fresh, regularly, and was excited about the health benefits and convenience of the South Beach Diet program. I have never been more disappointed. I feel absolutely robbed! The food sent is disgusting, inedible even. The bars are full of chemicals, the frozen food is revolting and laden with salt and unpronounceable ingredients. I'm not sure how they got so many calories in so little food. Do not sign up for this service! I did not lose a single pound but feel less healthy for having tried the program. I had a lot of success following the Southbeach Diet before I became a prepackaged online service. I followed the book and lost 30 pounds. We are remodeling our kitchen and won't have access to a stove so I thought I would give this a try. The foods all have a weird chemical taste and are not filling. The plan is very vague in how to follow. The app is filled with ads and not much information. I decided to cancel the program and was informed that there would be a $100 fee since I signed up for a special rate for the first month. I saw nothing of this when signing up or would not have taken a chance. Take my advice and follow the book if you want to lose weight. I live in NYC. I have a studio apt... I buy these not to loose weight but to have it easy convenience with my job as flight crew. Nutrasystem has room temperature meals and frozen meals. They show this on their website when you order. As soon as I got the shipment I called them and did not ask for a refund... even though I had to throw food out. I ask to cancel the next months order. I was told by this woman that they have a "retention policy". They charge $125 to cancel. I explained the entire story how 50 boxes can not fit in my freezer. She had me take hem all out of the box to make it fit. I had to do all this... right before leaving for a flight. I get meals like this to take away stress... not make it! Every time i open the freezer they all slide out on the floor because of the plastic. I had to throw 5 days of food away because they did not fit. She actually told me to stay with the program and just eat the bars and shakes for the following month, She was dead serious. Not only did she become very nasty The others were hard headed as well. We decided to give this a try to get us back on track. Hubby and I each ordered, and the first month, we did shed pounds. However, we have to supplement with lots of veggies so I would make this a pricy diet. Two and a half months in, I really don't understand what I am doing. The app is free, and I use the food tracker. The only thing I am sure of is my daily calorie limit which is 12-1300 a day. The first month we stretched the meals with cauliflower rice. Although the delivery is massive, individual meals are scant. The bars are so hard I was afraid I would break a tooth. The food is terrible. The quality of meat they use is poor. Everything is processed. Some of the soups actually made me gag. I have a months worth of food in my freezer and pantry and the only thing I like are the shakes. Even though I have lost 27 pounds in 2.5 months, this diet is really not my thing. We are now actively offering everyone who comes to visit SBD food to take home. I would have given a 2.5 but my sorry excuse for a customer service call knocked it WAY down. I would give it a 0 if I could. The entire program is meant to rook you out of your money. They make you sign up for autopay and then make you have to go through the entire website to find a phone number that works just to cancel. I tried just deleting the credit card information, EVEN IF YOU DELETE IT THEY SAVE IT AND CHARGE YOU. There is also absolutely no refunds or returns which I would understand if it was delivered, but my ordered hasn't been delivered yet. I logged a complaint today with Corrine in customer service because I don't feel the pricing is clear from the first page to the second of the advertisement. There are some defaulted fields that highlight a lower price. It switches screens once you select Gold Plan. The next page will have highlighted fields as defaults (ex. Women), but if you click men the price sublty shifts higher. Another highlighted defaulted field is autoshipping. The highligted field auto shipping is consistent with previous plan selected on the main page. It suggest click and purchase as opposed to a side-by-side comparison for an informed choice. In short, I didn't get what I thought I was purchasing and end up paying $104 to cancel a second month that I didn't know I ordered. I only wanted 4 weeks at the price I clicked on and didn't see a side by side plan of the nonhighlighted autoship. Autoship equates to an 8 week plan I did not select. The should advertise and 8 week plan side by side with free autoshipping to avoid confusion. It would appear it's the goal of the defaulted fields to seduce a 8 week commitment. I tried to cancel autoship when I saw an email showing a shipment. It's the first I was cognizant of an 8 week commitment for a reduced price. I would have never signed up for the price I ended up paying. I believe this is a adhesive agreement and should be changed. It is not clear in a menu dricen system. The prices are hidden. 1st Screen advertisement - clicked on $10.88 2nd screen defaulted to women at $10.88. When you click on men, it subtly switches to $11.87. Monthly auto-delivery is defaulted along with other fields for the customer. Small print about higher fee introduced for the first time below but not highlighted. I believe the goal is to take you through a click environment with key information defaulted for ease, but hidden costs to get you to sign up for two months as opposed to one month - regardless if you selected and intended 4 weeks. If I could give 0 stars I would. I have ordered from South Beach Diet before and always liked the food, which is why I ordered $325 worth of food this time. When I "received my package" it was only the frozen items of my order - frozen morning muffin 7 pack (x2 = $35.98). I called and spoke with a rep about this on 7/10/20 who told me that I was not the only person that day who called with the same issue. She said she was going to place another order for me. When I was finally able to view the order she placed on my account I realized she was missing the Bar Bundle 10 Pack (x2) and Dark Chocolate Nut Bar 5-Pack (x2) (this equals out to $59.98) and instead ordered 2 single Blueberry Ricotta Muffins, 2 single Nut & Seed Entree Bars, 2 single Toffee Nut Bars and 4 single Cherry Nut Bars. I called again and spoke with another rep on 7/10/20 to have this fixed. She placed another order for the missing items. I received a South Beach Diet order this morning (7/15/20). There were two styrofoam cartons, both with only frozen Morning Muffins in them... everything else from my order is missing AGAIN! I called customer care AGAIN and this lady Alexandra placed another order and she refused to review the order that she placed for me during the call. She told me that I will receive an email notification, which I haven't received for any of these re-orders the reps placed. When I went back in my account the order this rep placed was COMPLETELY incorrect. So I had to call again! This time I called sales instead of customer support, since customer support was of no help. This is neither South Beach, nor Keto. Food has rice and wheat in it! All processed frozen food. Some of it is "just add eggs and microwave". Its not good. South Beach is a lifestyle diet that encourages eating FRESH foods and getting away from boxed foods, for the rest of your life (cause that's good for you). Its also worth noting that if you are on a gluten free diet (celiacs for instance), none of the food is GF. Actual Keto food (meat and green vegetables) is GF and safe. I was only doing a web search for information about some things involving my order with South Beach, and stumbled upon this page. I can understand why there might be low reviews, but I wanted to share my experience. I've been doing South Beach for about 2 weeks now. I've already lost about 8 lbs. It's my first time ever ordering a meal plan rather than just dieting on my own (other than a short trial with Nutrisystem). I've been quite pleasantly surprised at the ease and actually have found the food to be decent as well. So here are a few notes: - Yes, they have an auto-ship feature that requires you to commit to two months. I read the print and knew that going in. There are no surprises and I decided I'd commit to two months no matter what, even if I hated it. After a half month, I'm looking forward to my next order. - You do need to supplement a ton of veggies and snacks. But, I've still found it to be very helpful. It's cheaper than other meal plans out there, and I think this biggest thing is that it's re-teaching me how to eat properly. I don't feel hungry on South Beach. - Some foods are better than others. There are some really bad ones (turkey, egg white florentine), but there are some great ones (love the stuffed chicken and actually surprisingly, most of the non-frozen ones). I modified my first order and tried to choose ones that were interesting to me, and discovered which ones I wouldn't mind again. Food is disgusting. You have to supplement with tons of eggs, proteins and veggies. They try to hide lousy flavor with spice and salt and it leaves my mouth burning. Hard to follow and only gives you the first week of menus. Logging in meals etc very time consuming and doesn't match up to the food they give you. Some of the documents say one thing others documents say other things. Food isn't bad just tiny portions and some of the directions have you eating back to back shakes or back to back tiny bars for breakfast and lunch no one can stay full on that! Update been on it for a month now and frankly the food is disgusting and when I said tiny portions I wasn't exaggerating. Getting my second delivery this week then canceling. I was on ideal protein and lost 15lbs in three weeks then switched to this because i thought it would be easier to have prepared meals. NOT it's more work than ever and I've only lost 4 lbs in a month. Thank god I only have 5 more to go. I lost weight the first time I was on the South Beach Diet but the calories are so low that my metabolism slowed and after I went off of the diet I gained all my weight back and more than ever before. It was a disaster. I tried a second time but canceled before the second order and they charged me an unbelievable $125 cancellation fee. My advice: don't waste your time, money, and health on the South Beach Diet. It is a scam and fad diet and you will gain the weight back and then some after the diet ruins your metabolism. You can lose weight cheaper and healthier by simply buying healthy foods at the grocery store and there is plenty of information out there on making healthy food choices and portion sizes. Sure wish I would have searched for these reviews BEFORE I placed my first order; the food is not great, and I do realize that calorie reduction effects weight reduction (not rocket science), and I was hesitant to eat pre-packaged food, but I thought, what the heck, I will try it for 2 weeks, then reassess. Well, little did I know until tonight as I sat on HOLD for 20 minutes (this is the ploy they use to waste your time and encourage you to just hang up) to cancel my order, that South Beach Diet charges you $125 for an early termination fee if you cancel before two months; WTF? DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY; MAKE YOUR OWN MEALS AND SNACKS; IT MAY TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME, BUT ITS BETTER THAN WASTING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY. This company should be ashamed of themselves. I am basically just dittoing what most of these other folks said. The food is horrible (so it's not so bad that it's teeny-tiny portions) and their plan is ridiculous--unusually bad directions for getting started, and the first week wasn't even in the little tracking booklet. I wish I'd checked the reviews before I ordered. I, too, have been on the South Beach Diet via the book, and that's a nice reasonable diet, not quirky or extreme, and I thought it would be less trouble to get the stuff delivered. Like many other people, it seems, I was very wrong. Do not bother with this stuff. It sounds like if you raise enough hell they will not charge extra for canceling the plan, and I certainly plan to do just that. read more

Not worth your money! I placed an order with one of the phone reps. When my food came, it did not match the order I placed...not even close! Over half my order was incorrect. I called and fortunately they did cancel my "subscription". Then I tried the food. It was dismal at best, tiny meat portions and very little flavor. Today, I opened the flatbread which does not expire until the end of the month and it was covered in mold. I am beyond disappointed. They only thing I have somewhat enjoyed are the shake mixes and the stuffed chicken. The shake mixes are decent, but you not worth ordering the food for. My experience with the South Beach Diet was not fulfilling. Like Laura below, I only wanted a short term (1 month) program which was "advertised" on the promo popup ad. After receiving a huge order of "meals & bars" which would feed a family of four, I was frustrated to find I couldn't get all the stuff in my freezer. The bars were so hard I nearly broke my teeth. Some of the "food" tasted like something even a dog would not eat...nor would I give it to a dog. I echo all of the reviews below & experienced the same problems. I hated Nutrisystem & thought (thru advertising) that this was a better program. BUYER BEWARE !!! Nutrisystem recently bought South Beach Diet & you can see it on the map that pops up on the South Beach website...it shows the SBD address & the pin on the map shows "Nutrisystem.". Really!!?? Beware of the fine print, cost me $125 to cancel after first order. Generally, the meals are just ok, bars and shakes not that good and an expensive program even with deep discount up front. WARNING WARNING DO NOT SIGNUP FOR AUTO DELIVERY! Horrible Food! Horrible rude customer service and not easy to cancel or delay orders. I used the online program to cancel my order, which is not allowed, attempted to delay my order and it did not work. South Beach shipped my 3rd order even after trying to delay or cancel a week before the shipment date. I contacted customer service and I was rudely told that they do not refund, that I could not return the shipment that my card was charged, basically too bad! The food sent by this plan is disgusting -- meat is low-quality and flavorless and the plan sends you massive amounts of food all at once that no regular person has room for in their freezer. That leaves you also with lots of packaging to have to recycle. They also make it nearly impossible for you to cancel the plan; you can't do it online, you have to call to do so and when you do, they transfer you to a highly trained retention specialist whose sole job is to talk you out of canceling. I persisted, but the retention specialist then told me about some hidden wording that said I still must pay them $125 more!!! Seriously? My freezer is still full of their gross food that I haven't eaten in 2 months and likely never will, yet they insist I still owe them $125?? I think not. read more

The only good thing about it is the portion control, but what's the point if you're eating nothing but processed food. They claim all the ingredients are FDA approved, same FDA that approves medication with tons of side effects advertised on television. Food tastes really bad, doesn't even look close to what's on the packaging. Way too much junk/snacks included. You're better off going to your neighborhood organic food store and do your own portion control cooking. I decided to go on the South Beach Diet and had good experience in the beginning....before I actually spent money. I was able to get someone on the phone etc. However, now that i've committed and i've been with the plan for about two weeks now, I can't get anyone's help. They don't answer emails, live chat and you will be on hold forever. I'm especially disappointed that they won't respond to my emails. My email clearly states i'm a paying customer. Also, there is conflicting information in what they send you in regards to "Phase 1 and Phase 2" and what you see on their website. I've yet to get this questioned answered. The food however is pretty good for processed food and I have lost weight. read more
