Besides being for a good cause, I thought the food here was really good! And for $10 4 a bowl of 12 soups with fixings aaaand a ticket to be used for a raffle or a free beer, I thought it was an excellent value!! I used my ticket for the raffle (which I didn't win :( but oh well) but a dragon's milk was still only $4.50!
It was hard to pick a favorite soup. They were all a nice combo of subtle and inventive flavors. I especially liked the chilled tomato with egg and prosciutto, the chicken and dumpling (surprisingly spicy!) and the Korean kimchi w/pork belly. Chunks of bread or crackers were offered at all tables as well as appropriate condiments like parmesan, cilantro, sour cream, etc.
The space (sugar maple) looked lots different without it's signature mini-coffee tables and benches (possibly a good thing) but did feel a wee bit squishy and warm due to there being sooooo many people in the place. It thinned out as the night wore on and made it more pleasant and involved less purse adjusting and "sorry" saying as you (or rather, I) accidentally backed into yet another person.
Very worth it --- a night spent supporting a good cause and fighting off the polar vortex with hot and flavorful soups! read more
