Milverine! He is part of what makes Milwaukee, Milwaukee. He struts. He goes shirtless. He customizes his pant cuffs. What's not to love??? One day I want to speak to him. Hopefully I won't be too nervous or make a fool of myself. Also have the goal to get a picture with him. I'll get there, everyone. You can count on it!!!! Preferably shirtless. I hope he smells nice.

M I L V E R I N E Local Hero and role model a living legend. I thought for sure I've done a review of Milverine. Obviously I was wrong. Gasp... This one man has perfect balance and symmetry. His eyes are piercing focused looking 20 steps ahead. Often times shirtless and using a refillable water bottle with quick pour spout in one hand. His gait as efficient as a humanly possible utilizing a slightly longer step with intensity and smooth swing phase from toe off to silent heel strike. His name is derived from Wolverine and Milwaukee local hero. He is pure strength and speed. Pictures are deceiving he appears to be running at a speed walkers pace... Oh the irony? Yea he is our local hero. Known for helping along his walking trails. He helped move stalled cars out of traffic, helped people get across the street. Insured safety at many of the Milwaukee Festivals! Parks and fairs. His photos are in FIickr. His pathways have been documented on google earth. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?gl=us&ie=UTF8&view=map&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=116338907323304745925.0004920a96520344a9544 He has various threads in Yelp Talk. http://www.yelp.com/message_board_search?talk_query=Milverine&location=Milwaukee%2C+WI He has a Facebook page. http://m.facebook.com/?w2m&_rdr#!/Milverine?refid=0&_ft_a=144217982290073&_ft_tf=258812037486354&_ft_tpi=144217982290073&_ft_ti=17&_ft_fth=c60e8946779ebdaf&_ft_src=2&_ft_time_ft=1316120580&_ft_mf_objid=258812037486354 His image is now available for purchase on a t shirt. I'll keep my opinions of this to myself. Lastly the streets of Milwaukee are safer now and for that We Thank YOU! John AKA "Milverine"

    He does exist!

I read the "Bronze Fonz" statue is in Milwaukee because the popular TV sitcom Happy Days, which starred Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli, was set in 1950s Milwaukee. The statue, located on the city's RiverWalk, was erected in 2008 by Visit Milwaukee to honor the iconic character and boost tourism, becoming a popular landmark and selfie spot. However, we walked and walked and walked, and I never found him. We saw another strange set of Riverwalk statues. I'm glad we came back in the morning and found the Fonz. He was surrounded by tourist and sad people talking to them themselves passed out on the bench. My GPS said there's a safe house around the corner.

Flashback!! there he was, a life-size statue of Fonzie doing the double thumbs up while saying his iconic catchphrase "AYYYYYY!" ahhh! These Days Are Ours... Happy Days! For easy reference, current and past iterations of the Godmobile are attached so one can easily spot it. Milwaukee is lucky - we've got Freeway, Milverine, the late Dick Bacon and of course, Brother Ron driving the Godmobile. There have been several iterations of the famous Godmobile over the years - generally all of them are total beaters and most have been station wagons. They start out subtle, with just a few bible verses and sayings painted on them but eventually the current Godmobile becomes a rolling art project - completely covered in verses, sayings, a giant megaphone, creepy baby dolls, a sandwich board and sometimes those giant plastic candles you put in your yard on Christmas. You can expect to see Brother Ron all over town - mostly cruising up & down Wisconsin and Water but sometimes you might see him parked at the McDonalds on South 27th St. Itinerant preachers gotta eat too, I guess. My favorite Brother Ron/Godmobile story comes from a former co-worker: he claims that he was in line behind Brother Ron at Leon's Custard and dude's total came to exactly $6.66 and the man FREAKED out and left. No Satan Custard for him! Anyway, I like to appreciate the Godmobile for what it is - a little piece of what makes Milwaukee unique.

We hit up the installation every year, and the fourth annual event in 2020 had more than a few stellar pieces. Standouts were Nari Ward's Apollo/Poll neon, Alex Katz Park Avenue Departure, pieces by Thomas J. Price and Julian Opie, and Tony Tasset's Blob Monster was a visual show stopper. There's plenty of signage to help you learn about the artwork, and with pieces installed from MAM to the Wisconsin Center, it's a nice easy two mile round trip walking tour. Audio Tours and even a musical audio pairing can be found on Sculpture Milwaukee's website. Guided docent tours or trolley tours seem to be offered from time to time, as well as curated virtual talks with the artists. A few pieces have ended up in the permanent collection, installed around City Hall, or around Wisconsin Avenue such as Roxy Paine's "Cleft" metallic tree. This is a world class annual installation, and definitely deserving of more awareness and Milwaukee's attention.

In 1882 the well started pumping water at a depth of 1500 feet and has been doing so ever since. It is called the Iron well because the water has a lot of iron - you can taste it! So, all you vegans and vegetarians go get some now! This is an artesian well baby! The old timers would come fill up gallons for the home and they would often share stories of how the water would cure your ills if you had any. It has been pumping water for the Bay View area for a long time, and there are still people who come from all around the south side to fill water jugs alongside bicycle riders who also come to fill up and cool off. Now, there are two spigots and they prefer the folks who are filling up jugs, and you are not supposed to use a hose, and I think you can fill a 5 gallon jug easily without it, but I have seen old timers break the rules! Yep! I did! You don't know Bay View till you have tried the water or had a seat on one of the benches provided by the Bay View Garden And Yard Society and talked to the people who swear by the water that bubbles (in Milwaukee water "bubbles" out of "bubblers" ya know!) out of the old iron well. I am sure that if there are Hobbits and Wizards in Bay View, they come here for sure. The water tastes a little or a lot like iron, and I used to dislike it when I was a kid, but I feel healthy drinking it now. The Health Department checks it out to make sure it is healthy, and when Crypto hit back in the day (wow, that sucked!) everyone came here to get water that wouldn't make you - um well forget it. I listed this in Local Flavor, but the Pryor Ave Iron Well is more of a historical landmark in Milwaukee.
