Let's preface here: I don't really ride bikes. I think I'd like to, I think, but I've never had one that fit me correctly/felt right.
I mean, I go to the gym and I spin my boo-tay off, but I don't even currently own a bike. So, there's that. I may soon, but I currently don't.
So how does a non-bike riding lady see fit to give this 24-hour bike race five big stars?
Because, people. Because it's so so awesome and unique and good for community.
Seriously: folks of every age, level of athleticism, etc., just riding bikes for 24 straight hours around Riverwest. SO much community goodness. Fun check-points, parties, and a general feeling of neighborhood cohesion/happy summertime awesomeness.
People come from all over the midwest (and further, from what I've heard) to participate in this super-unique event. I've seen kids and old folks and teams and tandems and costumes. It's so fun. Last year, we had a party in the median on Humboldt to celebrate: food, drinks, music, and cheering on every single cyclist that rode by.
Riverwest24 = wicked cool and unique to MKE. Love it! read more
