I don't know if i can quite capture my Soundings experience in a review, but here goes. It was…read morenothing short of outstanding. The net of it is that there was never any pressure to buy - i had several interactions with the Soundings team over a period of about 18 months and both times they started with conversations about what I wanted to achieve from all perspectives - equipment, usage (music, film), and aesthetics. And at the outset of both interactions, they wanted simply to visit my home so they could understand the environment in which i was working. After the first interaction, i did nothing other than completely change my plans as i was in the midst of re-modeling my basement where i was planning to put the A/V equipment - most of which i already possessed. Once i completed that, i returned to Soundings and started over with Mark, who happened to be at the store when I arrived. Again, never any pressure to buy, but simply a conversation about what i wanted to do. At that point, most of it was related to A/V furniture and installation of a TV. We decided to add a subwoofer and replace some of the builder furnished in ceiling speakers. Once it was delivered and installed, then the fun really began. The Soundings master set process is truly amazing. I refer to the Soundings team now as the Sounder Whisperers. My stereo has never sounded so good. Mark arrived with several known source materials (audio and film) and we proceeded to spend several hours listening and using an organized process, making what are seemingly infinitesimally small movements in the placement of front, center, and sub speakers. This process truly fit the equipment to the room and sounded superb. Even though I was satisfied - i could still tell a difference in my 20+ year old equipment compared to some of the equipment i had listened to in the store. Moreover, my speakers were a little large for the space. Thus, i returned to the store, was encouraged to bring some source material, and then simply spent some time in one of the rooms and listened. To make a long story short, I decided to upgrade both my speakers and A/V receiver. It was a two step process as i didn't quite believe that the electronics could make such a huge difference in sound, but it was truly amazing. After a few months to let the equipment settle in, we repeated the master set process and I now have a sound system that matches the full sound i heard at the store. Whether it's listening to audio or watching a movie - the experience is wonderful. As i said, there was never any pressure to buy anything, just conversations around what i wanted to achieve. Certainly there are different price points to consider, but they have really done all of the research for you and what you'll find at Soundings is remarkable sound at each of their budget levels and a great staff that is truly interested in helping you achieve your A/V goals. All in all an outstanding experience.

Indranil Dandaroy Posting publicly. Learn more…read moreI had extremely positive experience at this store. Audiophile stores can be snobbish at times. I have a Pro-ject turntable that needs cartridge setup with proper alignment, VTA and azimuth. I did not buy the table from them. Yet Rod told me to bring the table in. We had good discussions about 2-channel audio. I could tell he is a true audiophile, knows his stuff but still very helpful and humble. There was bit of challenge in setting up my table (for which he had to talk to Pro-ject tech and make mod to his tool), but he spent that time and got everything adjusted. The table actually sounds a bit better now and the best part is he did not charge me anything for all the time spent. When I picked up the table, I asked him again if I owed him anything. He said no and helped me put the table in my car. Now that is service. I highly recommend anyone in the Front Range area to seek out this store. Rod will not disappoint you. HIGHLY recommended!

But I've always found stuff I wanted there, even if I had to dig around. The redesign streamlines the shopping experience and lets me find things I want without feeling like I have to go through a lot of effort to find them. Incredible turnaround on that side of things. The biggest drawback to shopping at FYE is the checkout process. This has made me dread shopping at FYE, and it hasn't changed. I've literally had things in my hand, looked at the checkout lane, and thought, "Nah, it's not worth it" and put them back and left. Here's why: "Did you find everything you wanted today?" "Yeah, thanks!" "You know, if you get another Pop! it's only $X with our sale." "Oh okay, thanks, I'll go get another." (makes a desperation choice because of the "deal") "Are you a member?" "No, I'm good, thanks." "If you sign up, you can save X amount." "No, I'm good." "Oh, if you get another pair of socks, they're X off!" "I'm good." "Are you sure?" "Yes." "With your purchase today you can pick any two magazines from this list to receive free for X months." "I'm good." I understand why they ask, and it's most likely because they're pressured by management to upsell so much. FYE management probably looks at reports that detail % transactions with membership cards, number of missed upsell opportunities, % transactions with those free magazines that turn into not-free magazines, etc etc etc. This part of FYE hasn't changed over the years, and it makes for a terrible customer experience. So far all the positives of the redesign and marketing in-store, they're almost all lost at checkout due to a draconian customer engagement strategy.

This store scams people through a membership program that they pretend is a free rewards program…read more They get your credit card information through your purchase and then save it in their systems to charge you again and again. Not only that they also purposely misspelled my name and email by adding in random letters so I could not receive benefits or know about the subscription unless checking my bank statements. I only found out after getting a letter about an increase in the membership fee. I tried to get a refund but they said they couldn't due to the "terms and conditions" that I never even had the ability to agree to.

Setting aside how you may feel about their political behavior, it's just not a good place to shop anymore. Today I was there and they had no lint roller refills. Not out of stock, they just don't carry them anymore. A wall of essentially identical new rollers with wasteful plastic handles. Presumably they make more selling the new sets and plastic waste be damned. An entire aisle of fruit gummies and applesauce squeezy packets, not a single package of raisins. In the entire store, not even the yogurt-covered ones (c'mon, they're basically candy- surely you can squeeze those in w the other sugary garbage?). The carts at this specific store either roll badly or not at all. I could go on and on. They're all tiny little nit-picky things which seem petty to even complain about, but they add up. I guess the people who make these decisions are betting (praying?) that people will keep shopping in spite of it. *They don't care if you complain as long as you keep spending.* The only thing consumers can do is vote w our feet. So that's what I'm doing.
