And Montpellier has more than its fair share of such establishments. Fitzpatrick's was the one I settled on when living here, as it felt the most friendly and authentic, run by an all-Irish staff on my most recent visit. We were made to feel very at home with the odd free tipple thrown in, and quickly got to know the bar staff who kept us coming back for more! The only thing that wasn't authentic was the price of the Guinness, which will always be the case in France: if cost is an issue, you're better of sticking with wine!

This bar exists in practically every one of my greatest memories from my time in Montpellier... I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. I'll say good. The bar is big enough, lots of seating and usually gets pretty rowdy as the night continues. There's always a great crowd of regulars that hang out and the staff are amazing. They're all super friendly, English and French speaking and they love their customers. I never, ever had a bad time at O'Carolan's. If you ever find yourself in Montpellier, France (which you should since it's the most beautiful city in the entire country), go to O'Carolan's. The atmosphere is always welcoming and the crowds are always gregarious and fun. Oh, and they have a pretty kick-ass St. Paddy's day celebration, which spills out onto the street outside the bar. Pretty awesome if you ask me.
