From the first meeting with Larry and Kyle, we were impressed with their ideas and menu suggestions. As the plans became more concrete we were absolutely pleased with the final proposal; the food, the rental items, and the communication was top-notch. As September 12th approached, we became aware that some changes were going to need to happen to stay within the Covid guidelines. Larry kept us informed every step of the way, and all the adjustments actually seemed like part of the original plan. On the day of our wedding, Larry was at the venue early to go over all the arrangements with me, and to re-assure me everything would be fine. Let me just say, it was more than fine, it was perfect! The table seating had been changed to limit 6 per table, and even the ceremony seating was spaced to make our guests feel comfortable. The staff was seamless and professional. The food was so delicious and offered a wide variety to please everyone at the wedding. I had many guests tell me our food was some of the best they have ever had at a wedding. Now that the day is over, we look back on everything Whitman's did to make our day truly "our" day and we couldn't be happier. Whenever my wife and I visit a restaurant or bar for the first time, whether we are there by ourselves or--in this case--treated to a meal by our favorite neighbors--I can count on her to sort through, heed, and pick up on every nuance in every aspect of culinary service that is there to be sensed. In this case, at the Dockside Restaurant & Sports Bar at 421 Deale Road in Maryland, the food was mostly wonderful, and the prices were more than reasonable for this economy. What prevents Dockside from receiving at least four stars was primarily the service. Two orders of fries, one sweet potato and one regular, weren't hot; and although our waitress reluctantly brought one of the orders back to exchange it for a new batch, the fries didn't taste any warmer. Our other host ordered his crabcake lightly-fried, only for it to be brought out broiled. He still enjoyed it, but it wasn't exactly what he wanted or ordered. By the end of the meal, it became obvious that, if we return, we need to ask for Sarah, who, although she was tending the bar and wasn't even our waitress, still brought one of our neighbors a fresh cup of Pepsi Zero that she could take on our return trip home. Sarah also exhibited a great sense of humor, an attentiveness and an attention to detail, and, most importantly, remembered with pleasure our hosts, who have dined there frequently. I asked about the crab cake prices and was told it was around $45 for the dinner, about $28 for the sandwich, and around $22 for the crab ball appetizer. When our server came back, my wife ordered the shrimp special. I wanted a BLT with a crab cake added, so I asked how much it would be to add one. I was surprised when she told me it would be $40 to add the crab cake, on top of the $17 BLT. At that price, I decided to order the BLT and the crab balls instead. I put two of the crab balls on my sandwich and we ate the other two separately. Overall, the food was good. My wife really enjoyed her grilled shrimp and rice. My BLT had a nice amount of bacon, but it had way too much lettuce and only one small slice of tomato. The crab balls were good, but I still have a hard time understanding $40 to add a crab cake to a $17 BLT.
