I filed a claim for diabetes type II and prostate cancer based on Agent Orange exposure at my base in Thailand where I was stationed from Dec 1974 to Mar 1976. I was granted a rating at a time when the V.A. was denying most AO claims from people based in Thailand. Very satisfied with DAV's service so I became a lifetime member. I received a 40% combined rating in 2017 for this claim. Since that time I have had more health issues develop which are all related to my exposure to AO in Thailand. In April 2024 I was awarded 100% T & P combined rating with Special Monthly Compensations K and S. My current ratings are 20% diabetes type II, 20% prostate cancer post surgery residuals, 10% bilateral diabetic peripheral neuropathy left foot, 10% bilateral diabetic peripheral neuropathy right foot, 30% Stage III Diabetic Chronic Kidney disease, 100% Left Ventricular Hypertrophy w/congestive heart failure and stable angina with less than 3 METs.

I was able to be scheduled for a one-day training, then got certified for it, and then I ended up volunteering to work at the VA. At the end of the three months working there, I was told they didn't need me as I was not on their roster list. I don't know their protocols as they have to follow it and it sounded like they did not follow it correctly. So I questioned them till I was satisfied as to why their actions happened the way it did as these leaderships were with this organization for years as I didn't hear anything negative about my work that I assisted them on. I do not have a witness who I feel I can trust there will back me up when this first happened and it got worse where that person may not know later. I was told there is a meeting for me but was told it is not mandatory. At the same time, I was asking them questions about why I"m coming to this meeting and finally they told me what I was signing, then I didn't show up for their meeting as it was a trap from them. They finally mailed me priority certified of a Reprimand and threatened me as I was still a member; then it said if I continue to harass them from my questioning them that I will get an Article XVI, possibly higher level disciplining. I was mailed another Reprimand letter from them within six days after the first letter as I felt this was harassment and a threatening letter from them. I heard that in the past another female veteran was given a Reprimand due to her race and gender.

They instead recommended I apply for unemployability instead. I wasn't really familiar with that so I asked to research it and think about it. I called to try make an appointment and they wanted me to see the same guys. I asked for someone else and was given a list of emails for 2-3 other people. I emailed 2 of them and never got a reply. I tried the VSO at the N Pecos VA and to say he was unhelpful would be an understatement. He didn't/wouldn't look at the package, just asked what I needed help with specifically. Of course not being an expert the real answer is everything but I was already detecting the attitude we are all familiar with from dealing with civilian government workers. Basically "make job as easy as possible to do or I'm going on a smoke break" So I made a list of, I think 6 specific questions and sent that. He answered the first one (badly) and that was it. I replied back with "what about the other 5?" and guess he went on a permanent smoke break, because I never heard from again. I'm sure he referenced it in his next performance report as another example of his impeccable work ethic and dedication. The one year deadline was coming up and so I spent a few dollars trying to use some online VA disability resources (basically AI rewording the verbiage) and sent it off. I have my C&P coming up.

As an older veteran, I was unfamiliar with the VA disability eligibility process, and questioned that I would be eligible for disability consideration. The staff member explained the process and submitted the initial paperwork required by the VA, based on the information I provided him. The staff members informed me of expecting future contacts from the VA regarding my submission. They were spot on in this regard. Following up on this matter, I again sought information from the Center and was informed my issue would best be served with the assistance of an attorney who specializes in VA disability affairs. I appreciated the Center recognizing the complexity of my case and immediately directing me to an attorney. I selected Mr. Travis Barrick, Esq., who has represented me in all matters related to my case. I appreciate the Veterans Transition Resource Center's ongoing assistance and referral to an outstanding attorney and advocate.

Our liberty and pursuit of happiness was given to us by those proud brave souls that wanted a better chance and life FREE from oppression. This is why we celebrate and thank our soldiers, not just on Memorial Day. Anyday!! This organization was a wonderful beacon when my husband died. We had no plan for his passing and I had no idea what to do when he died; except cry. I had no family here in Las Vegas, so dumbfounded and delirious I turned to the veterans services. Who knows what to ever do in a crisis? We are never prepared for the unexpected loss of a loved one. Especially, when they "seem" in great health and shape. I highlight that s since it was a pulmonary embolism that took my husband, really an act of God. This agency helped me to calm myself and listened when no one else would. Having no where to turn except my husbands employment I felt lost and saddened. The cries and tears I had were answered here not by any monetary means, but with comradeship and comfort from his brothers in arms. Once you join the military, any branch it's for life . This means that when they pass that obligation to care for those left behind, women and children usually, is immediately answered. Recently, I have returned the love and paid it forward to this organization and others that help veterans with volunteering when I am needed, and donating items that our family no longer needs. This is all that I can aid in but sometimes it's the smallest gifts that come from the heart that are received the best. I like nothing better than to listen to a veteran about their time spent serving out country. I was a "true" army brat, so I am no stranger to army life. Being born while my dad was stationed in Germany, my mom traveled with me in tow as dad moved through his assignments in Europe. Many think that being an Army Brat is a charmed life but moving here and there where is home truly. Home was where we laid, but I was loved unconditionally. For twenty four years, now a widow I was loved unconditionally too. Of course my husband was an Army Brat too his parents stationed in Arkansas. I feel that this incredible love that I was blessed with can be passed on to those that no longer feel loved. Everyone should feel love, especially those that surrendered and gave so much to ensure all the freedoms that we have today . Now pass along love to all those whom are protecting our freedoms. So let's say how can I get involved in helping my local veterans? Seek out Google and let your fingers walk and mind wander. Ponder how just a small slice of your attention can go so far. Be the change that you want to be in the world. However small or large impact that you feel you need to make. Go out and change the world always remember that those that fought and died for our country is the reason for your being. Never forget your freedom was not free. Pay it forward everyday and know that you matter so does your voice. The soldiers carry our heavy burdens lets be their voice when they cannot have one!

I found an amazing deal on Groupon and called about 2-3 weeks in advance to check availability. The host was incredibly accommodating, with openings at almost any time we needed. We decided to book for our first day in town, about four hours after landing on Wednesday. When we arrived, we were greeted with big smiles and great hospitality. Four other people had canceled their session, so we basically got a private appointment--which made the experience even better! I can't recall the owner's name, but she and her assistant were both AMAZING! As a man, I've never done anything related to bath bombs before, but this experience was outstanding. The owner walked us through everything, with a rotating video demonstration to guide us step by step. The Groupon included one bath bomb per person, but we had the option to make more for a small additional fee, which was totally worth it. I even made one for my wife with a scent I knew she'd love, while she created two for herself. The owner was knowledgeable, kind, and passionate about what she does, making the experience even more enjoyable. This was such a fun and unique date-night activity, and we'll definitely be back next time we visit Vegas!

I knew the door for the restaurant wasn't it but I didn't know between the other two of which side to go into so I called my friend who guided me to the correct door. I was there about midnight & it wasn't busy at all for a Friday night. The establishment was organized, clean & modern. They have some tumble weeds as light fixtures which didn't look real & was kinda tacky & didn't really fit their decour. The side we were on was called The Lodge on Stephanie. There was a good size dining room area behind the bar which wasn't open. The bathrooms are next to it & when I went to go use the bathroom is was very cold in the dining room (had to walk thru) & in the bathroom. The other side was more fancy. You can see each areas thru the glass windows inside. I joined my friend's @ the bar & decided to play some video poker & it ate my $40 and I didn't end up winning. I would have moved to a different machine if I wasn't there with my friend's. The bartender was Doc who was friendly & my friend Carlton was conversing with him about the sports. I'm glad my friends had come here since I've been eyeing the establishment after it opened whenever I would drive by it. I'd definitely come back & hope to have better luck gambling. I was happy that they serve Nutrl & have pineapple. My seltzer was nice & cold. :-)
