Sorrento's has been a general staple for the Catonsville area for many years. I've been coming here for quite a long time and generally have had favorable experiences during that time (around 20+ years). While the people who work here are friendly, easy to talk to, quick to smile and laugh at a joke, the food has really gone rapidly downhill in terms of ingredient quality and overall taste. My most recent experience was unusually disappointing. I bought pizza, cheesesteak egg rolls, and a couple subs to go. First thing I noticed on this trip was the change in ingredient quality. Everything tasted like it was made with low grade ingredients and for lack of a better word was off putting. The pizza wasn't terrible, but wasn't great either. It used to be much more solid, flavorful and worth the cost, now, I'd give the pizza roughly a 2/5 stars at best. Cheesesteak eggrolls were average. The cheesesteak sub was the worst part for me, full of gristle and inedible bits all throughout. I'd give it a 0.5/5 stars. The cheesesteak sub, it had a ton of meat, but was very poor tasting and just an overall disaster. I could barely eat half of it due to the poor meat quality and quite frankly awful flavor, and was forced to threw it away. It speaks volumes when you're willing to throw away food during record high inflation across the US, but I just couldn't get through it. And for the record, I'm a chef, but I've also eaten a lot of different foods of varying quality and I understand that not everywhere is going to be fine dining. However, I can't overlook how disappointed I was on my last trip at Sorrento's. So much so I vowed it would be my last. Simply put here are much better places to eat in the area for the same price with far, far better quality ingredients. Sadly, this is no longer a place I can recommend to go. read more

Ordered a pizza over the phone at 5:01 never got a time ok that is fine but when we went to the restaurant and had to wait 1:13 minutes to get our order that we paid for when we got there at 5:35 and no one could give me a answer but we had a rush. No problem on a rush but when customers that come behind you and order at the counter and not just 1 or 2 multiple customers and they still get there order before us. Not a I am sorry nothing but thank you. Waiting for my pizza is not a big deal but 1:13 minutes later is a problem and the young ladies giggling behind the counter maybe this is why the ratings are 3.5. Watched the young man working there fix the doors on a glass case, I'm assuming it stores food...then go back to adding pepperoni to a pizza. No gloves- did not wash his hands. He finished that pizza, started another pizza, walked away and wiped his hands on his pants. Comes back to finish the pizza--touching the toppings. It's quite clear this is normal because they know their customers can look right at the pizza station. One of my favorite eats is the steak & cheese, and Sorrento's West makes delicious ones! Besides their subs, they also offer pizza (by-the-slice as well as the whole pie), sandwiches, cold subs, kettle-fried chicken, salads, various sides, and even daily specials. I love their steak & cheese deal, which comes with a side of fries and a fountain soda. The steak & cheese is so so so hot and it's filled generously with juicy meat, cheese, grilled onions, and mayo (always ask for extra!) - this will satisfy any of your cheesy meaty craving! The bread is also always soft, fluffy, and fresh! I also love the fact that it's always consistent, consistently yummy, each and every time! The fries are really tasty, too - they're always perfectly cooked and salted perfectly; no need for ketchup! I may try out the rest of their menu one day, like their pizza that I see everyone ordering, but I always get the sub! The staff here are always super friendly, and they're fast and efficient! My orders have always taken about 15-20 minutes or so, which wasn't too bad. There are plenty of booths to dine-in, but I always take my order to-go; lots of phone orders, too, so just be aware! Don't confuse this Sorrento's with the other one in Arbutus! My goodness! This is some good a$$ pizza! No lie! The 3 star rating is undeserving!haven't been to Sorrento's since I was in middle school. I stopped in a week ago on a Saturday just for a single slice of pepperoni pizza and I can say with pride, it's exactly how I remembered. Cheesy, buttery crust, hot! Perfect! I wish I would have gotten 2. I dined in, the phone never stopped ringing. The wait time was 15-20 mins, noted!! The next day, Sunday, I wanted Sorrento's again. This time I just wanted to order take out and come home to enjoy it. I tried ordering by calling the number on Google and Yelp several times. Back to back for at least 30 mins. I received a voicemail recording every single time. Finally, I just went to the place. It was around 8pm on a Sunday. I wanted a half cheesesteak sub and 1 slice of pepperoni pizza. Sadly the lady informed me they stop selling pizza by the slice at nice! HUGE BUMMER. The wait time for my cheesesteak was 15 mins, it took about 30. I should have eaten it in there because by the time I got home (just 10 mins of a drive) the sub was so soggy. Next time I'll get the sub plain with the fixings on the side! Came back from a trip up north on a long train ride and wanted something to eat! I've driven past this place a lot and finally decided to stop in. There were no paper menus that I saw, but there is a large lit up menu behind the plastic barrier counter. I opted to only get a single slice of pepperoni pizza ($2.50). This slice was HUGE!!! I was looking for a sub combo (sub/fries/soda) but they only had this available for a Chicken Cheese Steak (and not Italian sub like I wanted). There has never been a store more deserving of a 3 star rating. I was in the area, and I love both Cheesesteaks and Pizza, having frequented Philly and NYC for years - I thought "why not try this place out". The pepperoni slice was under $3, and a half sub was under $7. I dug into the pizza first. Serviceable, not bad, but not anything to call home about. Pizza is hard to mess up. The crust was chewy but crunchy, but the cheese did seem crusted on in an old way. Even bad pizza tastes good. The cheesesteak was really disappointing. The roll was nice and crispy but everything blended together and was bland. The steak was soggy and flavorless, the cheese was wet, and all the toppings overpowered what little flavor the sandwich had. I have a feeling anyone who would describe the food here as "great" would also say McDonald's is a good joint. In summary - pizza is not bad, might get it if the wait for better pizza places are too long. The cheesesteak is worse than even random takeout places. I won't be coming here again. read more

I patiently waited because they seem to be busy. I decided to order a slice of pizza from the display case. It took them over 10 minutes to fulfill my order; That my friends is not acceptable. I made a special point of eating here today because I remember the superb Rueben sandwich I got at this place last year. I was very disappointed that someone made the stupid decision to discontinue it. I would gladly have paid extra just to have it again. Since I was already there, I decided to have the Tuna Sub. I remember when Kirkwood Pit Beef was an alcove with a walk up window, so imagine my surprise when we went back and they were a large sit down place calling themselves Sorrento's. You still order at the counter, but there are plenty of booths and tables to choose from if you eat there, and plenty of big screen TVs to enjoy while you hang out. We were there for pit beef, so none of us tried their pizza ( I expect that is the Sorrento's side of the menu.) The beef isn't amazing, but there is a lot of it. Unless you want some for later I recommend ordering the medium sandwich, and even then it might be more than your appetite can handle. Also, you can order rare, medium-rare, etc., but those are the choices they are slicing your sandwich from so by the end of the day it's possible they'll run out of the style you enjoy. read more

This is a great mom & pop pizza shop! The specials are reasonably priced (slice of pepperoni & medium drink for $2.85). The pizza is made fresh and they don't skimp on the toppings. My first time here, but I've passed by several times this week and always saw someone carrying out boxes of food, so I made a mental note to try it. A pricey menu and I didn't wish to spend $15 on a sub, but the medium meat pizza supreme looked right up my alley. About 15 minutes later, I got up to check on my order, just in time to see it emerging from the oven conveyor. Even at a distance, I could see the crust bubbling, which is a good sign. My pizza was well covered in cheese, sauce, pepperoni, sausage, ham, and bacon. The toppings weren't counted, weighed, and evenly placed like some of those other pizza places do. Handfuls of meat toppings were placed in quantities that could actually be tasted. The crust was a normal thin Baltimore style crust that had firmness, not too thick, and certainly not like a saltine cracker. Flavor wasn't heavy and was easily complimented by the shakers of garlic powder, oregano, crushed red peppers, and parmesan cheese. The medium size consisted of six large slices, two would do the job. The staff was very pleasant, and that is getting to be a rare thing these days. The standard criteria for my reviews is, would I return? Absolutely yes! I saw an elderly couple munching down on steak subs, and they looked wonderful. My next trip to the Baltimore area will certainly include Sorrento's West. read more

Absolutely delicious pizza. Everything is always made from ingredients that are farm fresh. The sauce is seasoned just right, the crust is tasty, the cheese is perfect. We can't go near Catonsville without stopping for slices and a pie to bring home. You will wait, there's a reason this eatery is constantly busy. While orders are getting filled, the orders just keep being called in and there's one pickup after another. This is what it looks like when you care about your restaurant. They have young people working the counter and cooking, and they are all good! We stopped in after church and had the cheesesteak special which comes with fries and a fountain drink. The cheesteak was overstuffed and not bad. I prefer my bread to be toasted and forgot to tell them, no biggie. The sweet tea was very good even though we were charged extra for it. Worth it! It is a family favorite that we enjoy for lunches, dinners and especially when we want the "good stuff" to watch the games. Sorrento's is definitely our go to spot for Cheesesteaks and Pizzas. The cheesesteak is done right! The bread they use is a perfect match for the cheesesteak loaded with that tender steak. Unlike some other places, at Sorrento's we feel like we get our money's worth! Cheesesteak Cheesesteak Cheesesteak yum. The pizzas are delicious too. The dough is crusty with the right amount of chew. We like the reasonable prices and that's just more reason for us to go. They make it seem like it is an inconvenience to take your order, even though you're spending your money with them. Every reasonable American has their very own favorite greasy spoon pizza joint, Sorrento's, in all its humble splendors, just happens to be mine. I can't speak for the various menu options they offer as I only come here for one thing only! There are a number of reasons why "Sorrento's" is saved in my iPhone contacts: (1) It's pretty darn good, the pepperoni are spicy and fresh, and sauce is on point too, there's rarely any partiality given to the whole cheese:sauce ratio and usually plenty of both, (2) a large one topping pizza here will cost you $8, sure they put you on hold when you call and every now and then you're met a busy signal when trying to call ahead which I strongly suggest doing (Sorrento's is low key popping, ya'll!), (3) Baltimore locals make up the staff and they are always super friendly and helpful. Came here to get a cheese pizza with a friend while out and about. They have a special where you get two large cheese pizzas for$10.99. We decided to eat in the dining area while the pizza was hot! It arrived hot and cooked perfectly. It was your average cheese pizza, nothing spectacular about the dough, sauce or cheese. Another person in our party ordered the cheese steak special for $5.99 which includes half of a cheese steak sub, French fries and a small sofa. The staff were pleasant. They stated that the cheese steak meal was tasty and served it's purpose, once again nothing spectacular. The one thing I did rave about was the ice they use in their drinks...it's the same easily chewable ice they have in the hospital...the things I get excited about nowadays.... The dining area had ample seating and a large projection TV on the back wall that was showing NCAA basketball. There are also bathrooms (which were clean) and a small video game area to keep the kids or those young at heart, entertained. This place screams my childhood but it really needs a good cleaning and update! The food is decent and they have great specials. I got a half cheese steak, fries, and soda for $5 and some change. Ordering took a while because there was only cashier and she was preparing orders. While waiting observed staff not washing hands and handling food which was off putting to say the least. The bathroom was small and so dirty, I could see chipped paint, dirty tiles, and the filthiest door and handle. Galaga machine! Crab Pizza! I'm sold! Not really. For the price, the pizza is close to being good. The crust is really awesome, it has a really good rise, but the sauce does NOT taste right. The crab, was probably canned, but you get a pretty fair amount. The fountain drinks are SUPER sweet so make sure you ask for extra ice and get ready to visit the dentist.
