    My new ring by Sophie's
    Aviva L.

I went to this store on a friend recommendation to transform my engagement ring and eternity ring in one new ring. They told me right away my engagement ring diamond was 1.02 HSI1 round and it was initially a D VS2 1.14 carat bought in fortunoff GIA certified (I had the certificate with me). What happened is a broken prong of my platinum engagement ring was fixed 10 years ago on 47th street by a business owned by religious people from my community and that was the only time my engagement ring was out of my hand and sight. Conclusion: they switched the stone on 47th street! I was horrified. In contrast Sophie's is a wonderful jewelry store where they have stunning semi precious stones such as corundrum, pink Quartz, amethyst, rutilated quartz, citrine, chalcedony agate carnelian you name it exquisitely set with diamonds and for a very reasonable price and they are lovely and knowledgeable non pushy salespersons to guide you in your purchase. Their engagement rings and diamonds are also fairly priced. I will go back to this store anytime I will need to buy jewelry. Avoid 47th street at all cost unless you know for sure who you are dealing with.

I have used this establishment many times. I have several DIAMOND DANGLING EARRINGS from them. I always get compliments on them.

King Lion Jewelers is located inside of Unique formally known as Gertz Plaza Mall…read more I wanted to pierce my girl's ears. My mom was telling me about a place she found inside of the mall and said that the cost to do the piercing was very inexpensive. I was intrigued, because I've only ever went to get my other daughter's ear pierced by a nurse and that was about 5X the amount this place wanted. I never went to check it out though. It took some time for me to actually pay this spot a visit, because I didn't know how my girls were going to react to getting a hole in their little ear lobes. So I waited. 4 months shy of a year to be exact. During the course of this time, they began to ask me for earrings. So with all the options around me, I decided to finally pay this place a visit. I was a bit skeptical at first, because there were no written reviews for this establishment. I only went there based solely on my mother's recommendation. When I got here, my skepticism was still present. I wasn't quite sure if they did in fact do ear piercings. It looked like your typical run of the mill jewelry store. It's in the basement of the mall, which didn't quite pique my fancy and honestly I was going to change my mind, but I went ahead with my decision. I was met by George. I asked him if they pierced children's ears and he said yes. He was very good with my girls and helped to make them feel as comfortable as possible. He first cleaned the ear lobes and then marked their ears and didn't proceed any further until I approved of the placements. Once I was satisfied with his markings, he then went to get the ear gun and the earrings, which were packaged inside of a sterile plastic container. He allowed them to pick the ones they wanted, but of course mama made the executive decision and they liked my choice. When he did the actual piercing, they reacted much better than I thought, but ended up shedding some tears. It made me want to cry for them, I mean what mother does this to their children?? I was really questioning myself on this lol. George was very patient and waited until they calmed down before piercing the second lobe. After it was done, I purchased some diamond studded earrings for them to wear once the piercings healed. He gave me a 50% discount and an additional 10% off because I bought more. I really appreciated that, because who doesn't love to save money. Shoots, if he gave it to me for free or close to it, that would've made me happier. He made the experience a memorable one for me, so that I could share it with my girls once they get a bit older and can no longer remember the day that their mommy took them to get their ears pierced.

Nubian Heritage is one of the nicer stores on the block and is right around the corner from the E Station. I saw some Dashikis and pictures of Barack Obama in the window, so I figured this store could be promising. When I got in there it wasn't quite what I was expecting, but still interesting. It reminded me of one of the small ethnic stores I might see in Williamsburg, full of small trinkets and living room table pieces. Also they had a big focus on oils, scents/incence, and soaps. Possibly like an African Bed Bath and Body Works. Although there were some cool Egyptian pieces, my only complaint was that it was mainly geared towards females and there were very few pieces for men. Also I think it would have been cool if they should of had some more African instruments, but that's just me. Besides that it was an interesting store. Don't let it scare you that it's in Jamaica Queens. The avenue is actually pretty nice, although I'm too sure how safe it is a few blocks off the main street at night. The one thing I can say is be warned: Taking the E Train is an adventure in it's self, and the Jamaica station has a fine smell of urine to greet you as you get off the station.
