If you can score this site, the view doesn't disappoint!!

Have stayed here multiple times over the years due to the kids attending hockey camp at LSSU. Great campground for retirees and older couples. It's small, the views of the river are great if you can score water sites. I would not suggest for families. There is only 1 swing set, they do not allow the kids to fish from the sites, and the nearest swimming beach is 15mins away. We rotate between here and the state park only because, the kids are gone 90% of the day and it is in a great location to ride bikes through town and the locks. Tip: when making reservations, avoid parking lot sites. Yes. They have sites that are legit parking spots. There is no grass and if you have slides, good luck getting them open Tip: if looking for water site, you must make reservations, months in advance

Clean and quiet campground. Close to the Soo Locks. Beautiful scenery. WiFI needs to be upgraded.

We didn't expect much, but the views were nice. The furniture is dusty and we avoided sitting in it. The "full" size beds were comfortable enough and didn't smell, but were very small. My wife and I had to sleep in separate beds. There were also no power outlets anywhere but in the kitchen/dining area so I had trouble with my CPAP machine and needed to do some maneuvering to make it work. Not a deal breaker but it made it difficult. We didn't bother using the kitchen as we weren't sure anything would be clean enough from previous renters. We had brought our own propane camp stove and cooked on that. This also helped us with cleanup though as no dishes needed to be cleaned. The public shower (only one), at least for the men, was very rudimentary and the hot and cold water knobs are reversed. If you camp here, bring shower shoes. The men's side does not lock and when you open the main door, the breeze opens the men's side door which could be awkward with small children or women. My wife mentioned that the women's side had a lock. This place boasts Free WiFi, but you cannot get WiFi in or around the cabins. We had to drive and sit outside the main office in our vehicle to get any access at the beginning and end of each day and the speed was very slow. But we understood that as it's a remote island. The Cafe, which we hoped to use a great deal, was closed the entire time we visited, but we assume this is due to staffing shortages so we didn't fault Yacht Haven for this. It's unfortunate that it's happening everywhere. There are plenty of spots on the island to get a nice cup of coffee and some quick breakfast. The staff were kind as well. The cleaning lady was pleasant and the office staff answered all of my island based questions. All of the negative things can be fixed with some small attention, so I'm still giving this place a solid 3 stars, since we just used it to lay our heads after several long days of off-roading. A bit better cleaning, some quick plumbing work, and electrical updates, a men's shower room lock and some WiFi boosters would make it 4 stars if not more.

We did not get much sleep. Also, $13.50 reservation fee AND camp fees made it $56.00. Ludicrous for a provincial site for 1 night, non-electric, no water. In BC, we pay $22 with tax and a $3 reservation fee to a max of $9. Crazy!

The campsites are either along the Trans Canada highway (not good) or in the trees along the glorious dunes (glorious) or nestled in between (pretty great). Either way, you are always steps from a pristine and incredible beach scene. Clear sparkling blue water, sharp cool and clean, a wide pancake arc of beach with maybe one other family in kayaks peacefully exploring the landscape that still looks and feels like the northern wilds of the Group of Seven painters. Heaven. This is a perfect long clean white sand beach like you'll find in only a couple other tourist-over-run places in the world, and the fact that it's under snow for 6 months, and eaten by monster mosquitoes for another 2, and pretty far from any major city, keeps it a treasure just for those sweet souls who live on the rim of the great lake, or those travelers like us who roll down the long ribbon of highway through the woods and are lucky enough to spend their nights in the hospitable wild wonderlands of Canada's parks.
